17.01.2022 We are so excited to be able to help in the recovery and protection of Australian native species such as these beautiful Yarra Pygmy perch here at our property. The nets were checked this morning and it looks like they are breeding well and are super healthy. Thanks to the amazing efforts of the Aquasave team from the not-for-profit Nature Glenelg Trust A billabong at Softfoot Sanctuary is currently being used as a surrogate refuge for a population of endangered Yarra Pygmy P...erch. This will help breed up populations and provide a long-term security for these species. These fish have not been found in the wild for over a decade and are looming close to extinction. Through this breeding and surrogate refuge program, fish will be able to be released back into habitat areas with remnant populations. In reality, such conservation actions are necessary to help secure the long-term survival of the four target species in the region.’ Photos by: Silvia Zukowski Article written by Silvia Zukowski an aquatic Ecologist from Nature Glenelg Trust. 17.01.2022 What a beautiful afternoon for a sunset tour and nocturnal experience with my Dad Gary Retallick and a lovely family on holidays The moon was full, the weather was beautiful, the alpacas were cuddly and we saw so many amazing nocturnal Australian animals in the sanctuary. Hope you are having a great school holiday!... Sincerely Clancy

12.01.2022 Muntrie blossoms like snow falling on Softfoot We grow many species of native plants here which we then harvest fresh and use in our on farm restaurant. Real paddock to plate style. We can’t wait to use these muntries somewhere on our summer menu once they are ripe. ... Muntries belong to that large plant family Myrtaceae that includes many Australian plants such as eucalyptus, paperbark and bottlebrush. Muntries botanical name is Kunzea pomifera and it is often known as emu apple, native cranberry or muntaberry. They are found throughout the temperate regions of Australia and can tolerate sandy or alkaline soils. Muntries played an important part in the diet of the Ngarrindjeri people of the lower Murray River region, who also traded the dried fruit with other groups. thank you to the Rushall Garden Grouo for the info and deep gratitude to the First People of Australian for sharing their knowledge of edible Australian plants.
