22.01.2022 The sale of a property should come with a certificate of fire risk and compliance of structures. I can’t believe in 2020 that vendors can still conceal this information from buyers. https://www.domain.com.au//building-new-homes-in-bush-fi/

21.01.2022 Someone in the comments nailed it. Steel and bushfires are totally not compatible. Therefore AS3959 is useless unless you want to resist fire for 30minutes. More work and better standards are essential. https://www.theguardian.com//the-weakest-link-back-to-the-

20.01.2022 Alvyn was interviewed yesterday on bushfire resistant building by the mydomain program on channel 9. We will let you know when its showing.

19.01.2022 Responding to a crisis and building resilience can and must happen hand in hand.

19.01.2022 A great exercise in concrete pouring rebranded as an environmental win... sigh... we arent really going to address our fix on overconsumption just by re-naming it. Remember that the most environmentally responsible project is the one where nothing or almost nothing needed to be built. No resources consumed, no pollution produced, no debt created.

18.01.2022 oops... vic ash is actually not termite resistant, they love it. https://www.instyletimberproducts.com.au/files/VicAsh.pdf

18.01.2022 ... does anyone know if this concrete is available in Australia?https://www.carboncure.com/technology/

17.01.2022 thanks Xavier...its great to be reminded of the genius of Greg Burgess. Butterflies, Biodynamics and Burgess Naturally I do not know all the Gregory Burgess buildings in the world, nor do I know all the trees or butterflies, but I know enough to be sure that I am thoroughly in favour of them all and I am convinced that the world would be a more enchanted and livable place if adequate supplies of these things were available in the ordinary daily manner....Continue reading

17.01.2022 a compelling argument for heat-recovery ventilation... or any ventilation really. Australian housing is probably equivalent quality to those tested in this NZ study https://architecturenow.co.nz//does-green-housing-equate-/

12.01.2022 Elizabeth Farrelly nails it again, a solo architectural critic in the wilderness of self interest and profiteering that comprises planning building and development in Australia. https://www.theage.com.au//australia-s-burn-me-cities-urba

12.01.2022 One of our houses is featured on channel 9 on a segment about bushfire resistant building. This underground house is super bushfire resistant and carbon neutral as well. Its the home of my parents in steels creek, Victoria.

04.01.2022 softloud specify natural brass and copper taps and door hardware because the social and environmental problems with chrome finishes are quite concerning. Turns out that natural brass [copper alloy] and copper have an antibacterial and antiviral quality, and even kill coronaviruses. https://mbio.asm.org/content/6/6/e01697-15 https://www.insider.com/does-copper-kill-germs-and-viruses

03.01.2022 Love how brave this is, but is there any engineering?

01.01.2022 Planning for a dispersed yet connected population is a more resilient and sustainable approach than mega cities. Small cities of 50,000 to 100,000. Its not cool though, and the unquestioned assumption that cities are the most sustainable way for humans to live needs to be cracked open. https://mobile.abc.net.au//regional-australians-n/11874930

01.01.2022 Thanks mik. we sometimes say to our clients that electricity is not an essential need and that they could simply turn it off and see what happens for a day, a week. What would they need to do differently in their lives. I dont know if any actually take up the challenge though.

01.01.2022 It is a sad thing, hope its not a sign of things to come in the industry. Theres no excuse however for incomplete or defective work when clients life savings are at stake. https://www.domain.com.au//prefab-builder-archiblox-in-l/
