25.01.2022 Why are boundaries important and who benefits from them? Taking a body-oriented approach is the most effective way of helping clients become aware of their boundaries and become more assertive in relationships. As well as a body-oriented approach, it's useful to have an explicit conversation about boundaries, especially with clients who find assertion difficult or don't understand the value or purpose of setting boundaries and limits.... https://embodiedpresencetraining.com//why-are-boundaries-i See more

21.01.2022 Reflecting on the humility of shamanic service and the journey this round of Expansion Training initiates are on.

21.01.2022 My body is not my enemy. It just overreacts to things sometimes and that's actually OK. Maggy van Eijk, [Remember This When You're Sad: A book for mad, sad and glad days]

20.01.2022 I’ve noticed that finding an answer to why your mind can't switch off your survival physiology feels like an overwhelming or incomprehensible thing to most people. That’s because your mind doesn’t know how to do it. But your body does. Turning off the survival switch isn’t accomplished by the mind - it is accomplished by the body. When your nervous system is supported by someone who transmits unconditional safety from their nervous system, it helps you make the physiological switch from dysregulation to regulation and turn off survival mode without 'thinking' or 'efforting'.

17.01.2022 I'm sharing my nervous system secrets in a new Masterclass so you can find out why you think, feel, and act as you do. *HINT - it's not your personality! Join me for an exclusive Masterclass where I present the main nervous system survival states fight/flight, freeze, and friendly and help you identify body sensations, emotions, thoughts, core beliefs and behaviours linked to each state so you can recognise which nervous system state you are inhabiting in any situation o...r time. You’ll complete this masterclass with a personal nervous system profile which maps the three main survival states in your body Fight/flight (sympathetic nervous system) Freeze (parasympathetic nervous system) Friendly (social engagement nervous system) You will learn that your nervous system determines how you feel e.g., how motivated or afraid you feel, how much connection you are available for, and how much you trust life and other people - and so many more things! You’ll learn what happens when two contrasting and complimentary nervous system states come together, and why sometimes there are fireworks, and sometimes just fizzles. 11.01.2022 The most respectful thing you can do for your nervous system is to give it time, much more time than you think necessary. The human nervous system LOVES time. The experience of working with my free eBook "7 Essential Strategies to Build Resilience" is an intentionally designed practice of slowing down. ... This is not a race to master all 7 strategies. Working on your own requires going slowly and exploring which feels best by trying one strategy at a time. Do one exercise, then see how you feel during the next 48 hours before you either go back to the same one or try another. Your nervous system will need up to 72 hours to process each strategy, no matter how easy it was for you. Allowing a minimum of 48 hours means that you can be aware of any after effects in your nervous system. Doing only one at a time means that you can be fairly sure it was that particular strategy that contributed to your body’s response. Everyone’s nervous system is different and will have a different response to each strategy. Download your free copy here: https://embodiedpresencetraining.com/home/ebook-offer

10.01.2022 What do healthy eating, food, and behavioural change have to do with the nervous system? How we can hold space for organic changes to happen when our body is ready to shift? https://youtu.be/sDf0v9fUoM4?t=60

08.01.2022 I have spent years understanding the nervous system, journeying beyond the scientific and seamlessly weaving ancient shamanic teachings into my work. All of this experience and energy culminates in Expansion Training. It is a space where change is truly possible. Where you can release patterns that no longer serve you. Where you can finally understand what your body is telling you, beyond 'I have a sore shoulder.' Where you can complete the lessons attached to your cycle of... success disruption. Where you can be free to heal. I have intentionally built this program container as a space where all things are sacred and everything is allowed without judgement. No demands, no 'shoulds'. Once you join, your energy field will respond to being inside this place of safety. You can just 'be'. Then you can 'become' anything you want. Your nervous system will start preparing for all that is to be learnt and un-learnt. The next live round of Expansion Training will begin on the 1st October 2021. There are two groups forming, at 11am and 6pm AEST, to suit US and European timezones. Register your interest now: https://embodiedpresencetraining.com/expansion-training

07.01.2022 Of course people can function without being present, but they are working a lot harder than they need to be. There is less joy because they are not fully present, and the most important part of presence is offering presence to your body. The current preoccupation with mindfulness practices promotes ‘presence’ is being present with the mind thoughts but the mind doesn’t care if you’re with it or not. The mind is self-centred and regards itself as omniscient. Your body, o...n the other hand, craves your relational presence. It craves your presence so deeply that it will create illness, dis-ease, infirmity, just so you pay it more attention. Now, I don’t want you to misunderstand me. What I want to say is that there are physical disorders we know are created in the brain. Limbs can stop functioning when stress can’t be managed by the nervous system. People can develop seizures with no known cause. When those people have psychotherapy, NOT physical therapy, they deal with repressed memories and they get better. Cultivate a powerful healing presence for yourself and others through embodying altered states of consciousness so you can hold more space through expanding your capacity (not just 'learning' how to do it) in this one of a kind 12-week Expansion Training. You can't learn how to embody safety from a book.

07.01.2022 What is your favourite resource or practice to calm yourself in times of heightened stress?

06.01.2022 Our whole neurophysiology is built and primed and to co-regulate with another person. What can you do then when you find yourself in lockdown/isolation and no longer have the opportunity to find that co-regulation with another human being? I was interviewed by Stephanie Krakis about Covid19 and the Nervous System. This collective experience we are currently having can affect your nervous system in ways you or your clients might not feel prepared for. I share some tools and ea...sy practices to help us all during this time. Whatever response your body is having in the moment, it is trying to find its way back to health and trying to find its way to regulation. It's doing the best it can, we're all doing the best we can. https://youtu.be/xFQBJPrWDW4

05.01.2022 Doors Closing to Practitioner Training and Mentoring Immersion! After a year of being open for enrolments, the last day I am offering appointments to discuss joining the Practitioner Training is this Saturday, 2nd January. I will be unavailable after then because I am taking January off to write more modules for the Training. ... Here's a little sneaky-peek of the topics I've added to the curriculum this week: 1. Preparing clients for trauma-free birth 2. Resolving complex neck injuries 3. Uncoupling Shame from Freeze 4. The difference between Shock Trauma and Developmental Trauma 5. Right Brain to Right Brain Healing Methods 6. Expanding the Window of Resilience 7. The Adverse Childhood Experiences study 8. Pendulation and Titration 9. Neuroception, Interoception and Perception 10. Trauma and Ethics 11. Using the Nervous System to Address Upper-Limits There are other topics listed on my website if you haven't looked already: https://embodiedpresencetraining.com/practitioner-training- So although the Training commences on February 11th, the next step is booking a time in my calendar for us to meet before joining. Most people seem to simply 'know' if training with me is their next step. Along with all the theoretical knowledge and embodiment practises I share, if it's important to you that you work on your own system while learning new ways of helping clients, the experiential component of the Practitioner Training and Mentoring Immersion is potentially life-changing for you. When you put your nervous system through its paces in an intensive training program, it's like moving up from school athletics competitions to the Olympics. Your nervous system gets a complete work-out, and your window of resilience is fast-tracked for rapid expansion! You can book a time here: https://embodiedpresencetraining.as.me/consultptmi This is a final reminder that Saturday is the last opportunity to meet with me to discuss joining the Training. I have extended the time as much as I can. The learning container needs to be closed so the students who are enrolled can be held in sacred space for the next month while we all percolate in this juicy container and prepare to stretch and elongate our nervous systems for the next year. Therefore, please regard this as a PSA... the cart closes for payments on Tuesday 5th January :-) The last interview appointment is this Saturday! I would love to meet with you and talk about whether this training is for you xxx

02.01.2022 Many people ask me what tools and practices I recommend to regulate the nervous system. When you're managing a sensitive nervous system, it's much less about tools and practices, but the way you use the tools. i.e., the nervous system principles rather than the practices. One important principle is to process LESS energy at a time. In trauma-focused work, one of my teachers, Dr. Peter Levine, coined a term for this principle: 'titration'.... If you imagine a doorway with ten people trying to squeeze through it at the same time - this is what happens to sensitive nervous systems when they attempt to process the energy of an event all at once. It feels overwhelming and often impossible, because not enough time and space has been given to allow the energy to move through the opening - even if it just moves through as a trickle, it gives the impression of flow and movement, and just that will settle the nervous system. Many sensitive types have done so much overriding that they don't know what it feels like in their body to experience the subtle nuances of "too much", "a little too much", or "lots of space for processing", "hardly any space though still some space", etc. It's usually all or nothing. Embodiment work is about building the neural pathways so it's possible for the brain and body to observe and track all the spaces and states in between "empty and "overloaded". In particular, many people with a sensitive nervous system have to learn what their particular flavour of "empty" feels like too - there are ways of doing that without emptying the nervous system in a dramatic way. Noticing glimpses and glimmers of the quality you want to track is an important part of the process. I support individual clients to build this skill but often after they have taken my Expansion Training group program. Most people benefit from taking the group program first, although occasionally I suggest 1:1 work before embarking on the group program because each nervous system is different. I think it's important to consider each client's situation on a case-by-case basis and recommend accordingly. 02.01.2022 Sometimes, the only thing present at the start of the therapeutic process, is faith. FAITH I want to write about faith, about the way the moon rises... over cold snow, night after night, faithful even as it fades from fullness, slowly becoming that last curving and impossible sliver of light before the final darkness. But I have no faith myself I refuse it even the smallest entry. Let this then, my small poem, like a new moon, slender and barely open, be the first prayer that opens me to faith. - David Whyte See more

01.01.2022 This e-book contains suggestions for navigating stressful events and minimising their impact through building resilience. Being resilient doesn’t mean that a person never gets overwhelmed or never experiences trauma, but rather, when a traumatic event happens, their nervous system has an in-built flexible core so that it can quickly and easily return to a regulated state. 01.01.2022 When I appear on a podcast, I always get a lot of questions wanting to know the relevance of the nervous system to a HUGE range of topics. People find the nervous system endlessly fascinating, and everyone wants to understand how the nervous system is related to their topics of interest - and there usually is a connection! In my interview with Renee Mayne from The Hedonistic Way Show, we covered: 1. What is the nervous system and what has it even got to do with your reality...? 2. Trauma and how to identify if it's causing unseen chaos in your life. 3. When to lean into to anger and when to hold onto it. 4. What happens when you align yourself and your actions to your nervous system. 5. The distinction between medicine, shamanism, science and spirituality. ... and let's not forget how the attachment we have to our Mother's effects our body and our relation to food. And because I think it was probably the coolest introduction I've ever been given, here's Renee's promo about me: She is the Sheldon Cooper of the spiritual world. The volume of her epic-ness is infinite. It’s taken AGES to get her on the show because she is always fully booked! Yet here we are. She is a beautiful fusion of intellect and spirit, her work speaks for itself. She is the pure essence of one of my favourite quotes There is no such thing as an educated person, you’re either learning or you’re not. Her capacity for expansion is c-razy. There is no thing she cannot do and her brain puts mine into a spin every time we chat. . And yet it’s her heart that really blows me away, it’s as beautiful and big as her epic-ness, bigger in fact. An advocate of truth, a nervous system evolutionary genius, a shamanic honouree and a gazillion other things. https://www.listennotes.com//ep-41-the-hedonistic-way-j1p/
