19.01.2022 Whilst on our U10 program. The last opportunity for your child to play U10’s in a team representing Somerset will be at the Penguin tournament on the 17th & 18th October. As this is an additional tournament each player will be required to assist in paying the $130 per team entry fee. Ideally we’d like a max of 8 players per team & at this stage each team would need to contribute $65 towards this cost ... the club will subsidise the remainder. We’d like to enter 2 x girls & ...2 x boys teams if we can. Please let us know ASAP if your child would like & be available to train & play. IMPORTANT note ... if we get too many kids interested preference will be given to our older players. There is also the possibility to sponsor a team by paying the $130 team entry fee if there’s anyone who would like to do so & increase the opportunity for our kids to play. We hope to have at least one but preferably two training sessions prior to the Penguin Tournament. Add names into the comments please if your child would be available & like to play. See more

16.01.2022 U10 Parents Basketball Australia is completing a project to help junior coaches and Aussie Hoops coaches, run better sessions. And in exciting news part of the project is going to be completed in Somerset. David Munns is one of three basketball coaches, from the whole of Australia, that has been asked to assist with the project, and he needs some keen as mustard u10 boys and girls Heat players. ... Friday 9 October boys and girls who are u10 are needed. They need to wear sports shorts and t shirt (no Heat clothes), sports shoes and bring a drink bottle and a basketball. They also need to agree to have their image taken and used for this project. Apart from maybe getting an Oscar at next years awards, it’s a free day of basketball fun. Sessions are from 10am - 11.30 boys, 12pm - 1.30pm girls @ the Somerset Stadium. Please rsvp Leah Wescombe or add name to comments if you’d like your child to attend. 11.01.2022 And that’s a wrap!! Junior state championships done and dusted. The u14s battled it out the past two days in Launceston. The girls battled hard in a challenging division. Everyone gave their best effort and enjoyed each other’s company. The players will improve playing at this level of competition. ... The u14 boys had an exceptional tournament. Losing one single game by 4 points. In the other four games, the boys played high quality basketball, easily accounting for their opponent. A real positive in the teams development. We would like to thank all players, parents/carer’s, coaches,manager/ess and all other volunteers on making these opportunities possible for our junior players. The chance to compete against teams from all over the state is invaluable for the development of all those involved. Sometimes it’s the facial expressions that give volunteers the most joy, seeing the raw emotion of excitement and genuine fun in the game of basketball.
