19.01.2022 People connected to the footy club & possibly SCC will likely be aware, but if not here’s a few pics of before & after in the Men’s toilets. Many thanks to Troy Merks for organising golf days, liaising with MPSC and putting an enormous amount of work into converting a cess pit into an asset to be proud of. And let’s not forget Sam Merks who is always front & centre.

There will also be an $80 bar voucher as part of the raffle. ... Also for those that are in the eagle lotto there will be extra incentive to be at the club tonight. If you are at the club at the time of the lotto draw and your number comes out as a supplementary number you will win a $50 bar voucher. Good luck to all of our teams today.

11.01.2022 It's R U OK?Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Today we're calling on Australians to learn what to say af...ter R U OK? so they can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. There's more to say after R U OK? Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before they're in crisis. Learn what to say next and help us move closer to our vision of a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. Head to www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

05.01.2022 10 wins from 10 games this season after another clean sweep today! Great stuff Eagles

03.01.2022 Evening all, Looking forward to the practice match v Mornington at home tomorrow. COVID protocols will be fully in force every time we get together unless the rules change. With fine weather, first game, catching up with mates etc, the natural response will be to just roll up and get together.... It’s a steep learning curve for us all. At this point in time, it is possible to use the social rooms, however there are strict rules about numbers, spacing, masks, entry, exit ... . you’ve heard it all a million times. We ask anyone coming to watch that they strictly avoid entering the club rooms without speaking to someone in charge first, that everyone adheres to social distancing and that strictly no one enters the ground unless all players and coaches are off it or the game has ended. On top of that we ask that if it is necessary to enter the club rooms it is on a straight in and out scenario. We can legally have up to twenty patrons inside at any moment but we are trying to keep numbers inside well below that at all times. Peter Young is our COVID officer and our whole committee has completed a COVID training course, however the responsibility falls to all of us to do the right thing. I have spoken to the OIC at Somerville Police Station and he emphasised having a plan, following it and showing common sense. The safety of all people connected to our club is our #1 priority & as such I ask that you make every effort to support each other. Well done to Jugga for organising the training groups & schedules & the players for responding so well. Let’s make a statement tomorrow and hit round 1 ready to dominate.

03.01.2022 Shaun Graf off the long run up

02.01.2022 The response from everyone for the eagle lotto has been sensational and as a result we have just one number left. Our first draw will be this Saturday nights Lotto draw so good luck to all. I will post a list of everyone’s numbers as soon as the last number is sold. Once again it’s a great effort from everyone for the support.

01.01.2022 ** MPCA 2020-2021 Season Update ** To all our Clubs and their members, Here is an update in regards to where we are with the forthcoming MPCA 2020/2021 season.... As you will all be aware the State Government last Sunday 6th provided a Road Map for how the state would move forward over the next few months. Roadmap: https://www.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-covid-19-restrictions-ro Whilst community cricket, training and matches are not currently permitted in any form in Victoria until the current Stage 4 and Stage 3 restrictions are lifted, the current restrictions are listed to continue until the 26th of October in our location as we are defined to live in the Metropolitan Melbourne area. We have meetings planned for this forthcoming week as a Board and Pennant Committees and we totally understand the frustration by Clubs as to when the season will start, also as to what the season will look like. Since our last update we have met with both local Councils, Cricket Victoria and I have also had discussions personally with the President and Secretary of the VCCL, all parties are still working tirelessly with the State Government and the peak bodies of each party. In regards to local councils, they are well advanced in getting the grounds prepared for the coming season with an estimated 90% ready as of now. We also had discussions around costs that will be in regards to ground fees and what protocols will be in place regarding cleaning, we have another meeting planned with the councils on the 17th of September. We are expecting that the cricket peak bodies will be in a position to provide return to train and play protocols by mid to end of next week. We and many other Cricket Associations have raised concerns that the protocols should also be able to be modified by the local associations to suit their individual requirements provide they must meet all the Department of Health Requirements this I believe has been taken on board by Cricket Victoria and they should be congratulated on this. In discussions with the VCCL a decision has not been made around Country week and or Representative games, however we are aware and I believe this has been communicated to all clubs that the 2020-21 Australian Country Cricket Championships have been cancelled due to Cricket Australia’s financial status, complicated obviously by the COVID-19 pandemic, have made it untenable for the planning of the championships to proceed. The VCCL are still looking at retaining Victorian Country men and women matches along with Melbourne Country Week, the Dukes Under 21 Championships, and representative matches against the VSDCA and the VMCU will be the subject of ongoing VCCL discussions in coming weeks. If the Metropolitan Melbourne restrictions are not changed in anyway then the MPCA are looking at starting around mid November 14th , this will allow at least two to three weeks training and possibly a practice game this will also hopefully help Clubs by practicing and refining the COVID-19 protocols around cricket. Discussions with Clubs as to formats will occur however it is the Board and Pennants view currently, that games will be One Day formats, we are hoping this will allow 14 rounds for this season for some of the following reasons: - Allows more games to be finished should a COVID-19 third wave hit. - Avoids potentially shutting down a match (or entire round) mid match (after day 1 but before day 2) where one or more players are impacted by COVID-19. - All players, batters, bowlers and fielders get to be involved every week instead of the two day format where some players could be waiting till the following week to get involved then getting called off due weather. - Allows other options this season if we cannot get started as predicted. We are also wanting to see if we can have the T20 Jack Peacock matches played however this may or may not be in the same format or fixturing, of course some of the restriction will be around: - Utilisation of facilities. - Cost impacts on Clubs. - Impacts on volunteers. I hope to provide further updates as changes come to light, I also wish to hold a Club Presidents Zoom meeting next Thursday 17th at 7:00pm. (Invite to come). If Clubs have questions then forward to the MPCA General Manager at [email protected] We won’t have all the answers I am sure however we will attempt to answer those we can or follow up at a later date once we get an answer. For now stay safe and stay connected online through our various platforms. Kind Regards, Stephen Morone MPCA President
