20.01.2022 II MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL II Following advice from the Victorian Government today, 12th February Somerville Secondary College will be closed from 11.59pm tonight until 11.59pm on Wednesday 17th February. Students will be able to access the lockers until 5pm tonight if they wish to collect books.... This is a step that all Victorian government schools are taking to help slow the spread of the UK strain of the coronavirus (COVID-19). This means that all students must remain at home. This is a very clear directive from the Victorian Government based on the advice of the Chief Health Officer. Please note that at this time, this is not a period of remote learning. We do, however, encourage our students to engage in utilising this time to ensure they are up to date with their school work and are organized for classes on return. Senior students may be set work for this time period to support their learning progress. Please note that the swimming sports that were to be held on Thursday 18th February will be postponed to a date in the future. For students who are considered as vulnerable and are not able to access supervision at home and where no other arrangements can be made, parents and guardians can contact the Principal to discuss arrangements on 5973 1000. The safety of our whole community is of the highest importance. The Department’s latest advice on coronavirus can be found at https://www.education.vic.gov.au/coronavirus It is important that we work together and support each other during this challenging time. We will be in touch with staff and parents should these circumstances change and provide updates of any further arrangements. In the meantime, you might find it useful to look at the Department’s Learning from Home website. It provides resources and guidance for teachers and parents and carers. https://www.education.vic.gov.au//Pa/learningfromhome.aspx Please take care at this time. Sarah Burns Principal
