23.01.2022 Australian international playwright Michael OBrien has joined the Sons of Sun team to write the new play Sons of Sun - Elvis and the 77 Comeback Special. Michael has had a number of plays produced by Darlinghurst Theatre and by Belvoir Downstairs Theatre (Frozen directed by Kate Gaul) and also participated and workshopped in the NIDA Playwrights Studio. He says, " Developing this new play with John Kennedy has been a great process the marrying of a dramatic narrative within a biography structure has been hugely rewarding from a writers perspective with the cherry on top of getting familiar again with some great music and fascinating characters." Sally plays the abrasive British music writer Julie who is sent from a London new wave music magazine in the wake of Elvis death in 1977 to interview Sam Phillips for her article on the death of rock and roll. Along with playwright Michael OBrien, I have now created a brand new show called Sons of Sun - Elvis and the 77 Comeback Special. This new play features renowned Sydney actor Terry Serio as the older Sam Phillips. The play starts with the death of Elvis in 1977 which causes Sam to reflect on... his own legacy with Sun Records.
