25.01.2022 My greatest passions. .

25.01.2022 Good morning! (400)

24.01.2022 Finished? Maybe. Taking photos outside now because nothing beats the suns flattery. The background is the shop front window (currently covered in butchers paper) that I will soon be filling with art works/pop up exhibitions. Holla at a gurl if you wanna collaborate on a show and dream into how best to use this space post ISO. More info to come.

19.01.2022 Transparency is beautiful. That's probably the greatest parallel of watercolour paints and people. I love it when pigmet and essence give it all away, like this moment was 'it'... Because you know, it is. .

18.01.2022 Gariwerd. Watercolour on Paper .

18.01.2022 'Our Lady of Coral' 2018 - She is happy where she is but aswell, she is ready to be sold on to the next adventure. Acrylic on Board. 40cm x 58cm... The inspiration for this was to paint a coral-scape, the portraiture aspect was unplanned but appeared, perhaps speaking of the state of our oceans, a reminder to care. This piece is framed by dark timber in box style. The cost of framing was $240aud. If you like, make an offer. :)

15.01.2022 Good Morning Cabbages, Here are three podcast-esq musings that have accompanied me through the long studio hours in the last years. Brilliant Ideas - Insight into other artists practices.... Conversations ABC - Personal and incredible/ordinary lives. On Being - Considered topics of the heart and mind, soulfully speaking. What are you loving/listening to? . . #podcast #onbeing #conversations #brilliantideas #abc #recommendations #arttalk #listen @ Northern Soul Tibetan Cafe

15.01.2022 These colours are making me feel strange but new things can have that effect. I'm no where close to giving it in, so captured perspective lives only for this moment, eternally on IG. Having a break to turn some pages of 'The Penguin Book of Japanese Short Stories' and steep the herbs.

15.01.2022 Some more of that colour and form dialogue. This one is up on my brand new online store, Www.thesojournartist.com

13.01.2022 I travelled out to Bagru, a small village about 30kms from Jaipur to a neighbourhood called Chhipon ka Mohalla. This small rural area of grassy expanse, punctuated by sub topical moments and family homesteads has been the sanctuary of block printing for the last 300 years. As the modern world catches up with the Chhipas (the community of block printers) it is no longer so that every family here is dedicated to the preservation and practise of this ecologically sound art form.... The introduction of chemical dies and the offer of a less laborious process has made the number of entirely #sustainable, #eco-friendly operations less but families like the Titanwalas still exist and are proud of their symbiotic relationship with the land. True artists. Somewhere in between the reams of cotton and hand woven lengths of soon to be saris I stand with Suraj G. The alchemist, the third of four generations in his printing lineage, speaks of pomegranate skins, tumeric, indigo and odds of rusted iron that he borrows from the colour lords to honour their wishes. We walk outside on a casual 40 morning, everything is under a light hazy touch of sepia. I see big concreat baths and a slight figure, shodow in toe, using all their weight to muscle starch from the saturated canvas. The land feels like home and not like a factory, the efforts of the people seem devotional and thoughtful not like a means to an end. Each day passes with many a tea break. Suraj G tells me how good his buffalos milk is in chai as we stand in front of the leathery family, their eyes shining with an enthusiasm that their facial structure cant help but lend to the world. They guard the vats where Indigo is stored and the boiling room. In order to fasten the dye each layer of #colour undergoes a process of drying, boiling (uptown 4 hours) and washing. While I line up the edges of a grape vine print I listen to Suraj as he wonders how it is that we can live in A/C, on our laptops with everything so accessible, so instant and easy to consume. Its a conversation on karma #yoga and on the beauty and #satisfaction in labour. My time with the Chippas. See more
