25.01.2022 It was a wonderful evening at the 100 Women Gala Dinner to announce their five grant recipients of $20,000 each. SI South Perth was acknowledged for being a member of this giving circle for 5 years. Eight members attended with two brave partners. Thanks to the organisers of the dinner and the grant process. The recipients are so inspiring in their work to help women and girls - an aim which reverberates with Soroptimists.

16.01.2022 A major issue in our city. Let's work to decrease homelessness. Everyone needs a home.

13.01.2022 We hope that 2021 will be a great year to celebrate our achievements.

13.01.2022 East Timor Scholarships SI Joondalup funded 6 young East Timorese women through university degrees between 2008 -2015. These young women came from very poor homes, raised amid the violence of the fight for independence in East Timor and with little hope of anything better in life. Selected for the Scholarships by Kirsty Gusmao as Goodwill Education Ambassador in East Timor, some of the girls were sponsored from year 11 through to honours degrees in Science from the Dili In...stitute of Technology. Pascoela and Maria both passed with Bachelor of Science degree with honours. Pascoela now heads a team of health workers in the field of women’s cancer and she recently attended RMIT in Melbourne to further her studies under the guidance of Kirsty Gusmao. Maria works for the Government in educational Scholarships. SIJ has continued to keep in contact with these young women with encouragement and friendship. What a different we made to their liveswell done SI Joondalup. Not only did we raise these girls out of poverty and ignorance, but their whole families too. See more

11.01.2022 A great effort by SI Albany to raise awareness of this issue.

09.01.2022 On Friday 27th November, a number of soroptimists from SI South Perth and SI Fremantle joined many others to recognise those who have suffered and died from family and domestic violence in 2020. Following the rally they participated in the silent march through Perth's city streets.

08.01.2022 1st October is the UN International Day of Old Persons Older women account for 54% of the global population aged 60 years and above, and 61% of those aged 80 years and above. By 2030, the number of persons aged 60 years or over is projected to grow to 1.4 billion Many older women are valuable contributors to their families, their communities, and to the national economy. However, others find themselves in a position of vulnerability, ostracised or abandoned, as a result o...f a lifetime of discrimination, particularly in terms of education and employment. Inadequate social protection programmes mean that they can often fall into poverty, and older women often face discrimination in many areas of their lives, including healthcare, financial services, access to development programmes, and ownership and disposal of property. Where We Stand Soroptimist International calls immediate attention to the growing population of older women and denounces the tendency for women beyond reproductive age to be invisible not just from policies and programmes, but from society as a whole. Women have often experienced a lifetime of discrimination which culminates in a multitude of challenges faced in the post-reproductive years, including a lack of security, protection, access to resources, access to education, and access to health care. 05.01.2022 Afternoon tea at the Swan River Hotel Ascot Lovely event to celebrate Florence’s 25 years of dedicated service to Soroptimist International. Florence was Past President of SI Geraldton and has also taken on many other roles in the Geraldton club. Florence has in recent times became a member of SI Helena. Florence has devoted many hours and much energy to supporting the ideals of Soroptimism. While battling a debilitating health condition Florence continued in her position a...s SISWP Friendship Coordinator and only recently had to relinquish this position due to her ongoing health issues. Region President Liz Butson presented Florence with her 25-year service badge and certificate, also present were Florence’s husband Morris, her daughter and daughter in law. Members of Region Executive and friends were also in attendance and SI Helena President Fay Kappler and a number of Helena members made it a wonderful event for Florence. Thanks Florence and Morris for including me in your celebration. Best wishes for the future Annie C SI Fremantle Thanks Annie for the photos and report See more
