25.01.2022 There has been some pretty amazing weather over the past few days with these storm cells producing some very cool shows of lightning and thunder. As a result there has been a lot of impressive photos of the cloud formations and lightning strikes etc going around, but of course the most impressive aspect of it all, to me anyway, has got to be the soundtrack to the storms, the booms and cracks and roar of thunder. There's no other sound like it, so much energy being released in... a thousandth of a second as the lightning instantly super-heats the air around it, sending out a huge shock wave that we hear, and feel, as thunder, with enough energy to shake buildings and cars etc,,, so much sub bass!! :-) So as the lightning and thunder drew closer last night i couldn't resist braving the elements and risking expensive microphones to try to capture a bit of that power. With mics out on the verandah, plus out the back on the stage, I was trying to ignore the threat of a direct hit of lightning to the studio. Then with each lightning strike the lights all throughout the studio would suddenly die and then slowly flicker back to life, and it soon became an impromptu opportunity to test the battery in the UPS power supply. Thankfully the UPS held up and the computer, the interface and preamps etc in the rack, kept ticking along nicely while less important appliances like fridges, aircons, hot water, lighting, fans etc were all sacrificed for the sake of audio. 24.01.2022 HA! well thats tyipcal,,, "554 post reach" biggest reach yet and its for the news of closing the studio..could have done with this kinda publicity a while ago ;-) Thanks for all the kind words and support etc etc, nice to see we managed to touch alot of good people, but remember that its not really and end, its now a time to go do bigger and better stuff, Sounds Suite had her time and place and will be remembered for years to come. But i wont ever stop recording sounds or mak...ing noise and loving music and and I will continue working and operating as an audio engineer, and we will all keep on playing music and throwing partys, its not really a choice, this is what we do, but it needs to grow, to change and progress, and just like a good tune, a well timed change of key and/or tempo, can spark new energy and direction, grab your attention, move you to a new rhythm and force you to refocus and get on with the new journey ahead.... 23.01.2022 SOUNDS SUITE DOES A "JOHNNY FARNHAM" Well it appears that tales of our demise have been greatly over exaggerated! you may recall that I made a little statement here a couple of weeks back, claiming imminent doom and final days of Sounds Suite with closing down sales, Swan songs, final shows and the like, yeah? Well......... WE'RE BAAACK!! :-) Back by popular demand we have been forced back into the ring to take another swing! Thanks to a concerned and motivated "but yet to be official so i cant name them here" member of the 'Suite community. There has been a much needed new lease of life and fresh energy, as well as the all important funds, injected back into the studio with some new attitudes and ideas soon to be unleashed. If all goes as per the current plan, there will be a slow and steady gradual hand over and you should see changes start to occur over the next few months as the old guard progressively steps aside for the young guns and a new chapter begins! Although changes are planned, and are essential, the new vision is inherently dependent on retaining the soul and vibe that made Sounds Suite what it is and so appealing to those who "got it". This is something not lost on the successors and something that everyone is eager to preserve. I must also reaffirm at this point that even after the changeover I will still continue operating as a Sound Engineer / Producer although now i will now have a few different studio location possibilities to choose from which will of course include this ol' Suite too. So now more than ever we really need your support. I need to get some bands back in these rooms, and some music back into the soul of the joynt. Its still going to take an effort, and there's lots to be done. So if there is anything that we may be able to help you with, recordings, rehearsals, equipment hire, etc, etc, all things musical and/or loud, please don't hesitate to get in touch and I'm sure we can work out whats best for your music and for Sounds Suites' future. 21.01.2022 A night for big talent at the Studio this evening... The Lanark boys are back in their favourite room, working on their set for tomorrow night's gig at the Astor Theatre Perth... (see below for link to show details) And Alec from The Insinnerators is exploring his progressive stoner rock leanings with an as yet unnamed side project (watch this space!)....... Its quite a heady mix for a Thursday! :)

21.01.2022 "Good morning ! Opening up the roller door this morning to see what the day had to offer, I was almost knocked off my feet by the sudden burst of sunshine that came flooding in. The little red drum kit suddenly sprang to life, sparkling and shining sending light dancing in all directions, eminating a new sense that the whole place had now become decidedly happier.. And the only reason that little red drumkit was out was that I was just about to give up on her, sell her off . Amazing what new light can bring to a situation, i forgot how much lil red meant to me, and how much joy she brings ; and she was right here the whole time., time to spoil her with a good polish and reskin ... Looks like its going to be a "Pearler" of a day " ha ha.....ha....hmmmm :-)

21.01.2022 Ten years is a long time, and alot bands walking these halls :) Several of these posters will be familiar from the Suite's hallway walls -- unfortunately renovations have meant the posters are being removed, but it seems a shame to lose those past moments. 15.01.2022 "PRACTICE ON STAGE" Outdoor Stage and courtyard area now available to hire for rehearsal sessions! Spring is almost upon us and the weather is gradually becoming a little more clement in the evenings, perfect for a bit of outdoor live music at the 'Suite. To make the most of this turn to towards more active evenings, we have decided to make the stage and courtyard area at Sounds Suite available to hire during any of the usual rehearsal times. good idea if your band has a gig... coming up and have not had much stage time to work out your act,( or even just to get used to the difference of rehearsing in a room all looking at each other verses on stage all facing the front). 15.01.2022 I have been spending a little bit of time out in the back yard of the 'Suite lately and as a result i have been putting a few hours into giving the courtyard and stage areas a little bit of a makeover. Many hours, beers, cursing and injuries later and it seems the ol girl scrubs up alright!! But now all we need is the essential ingredient,, The entertainment! The people , the music , the dancing and festivities etc... So I'm calling on all bands, musicians, actors, comedians,... filmmakers, artists or any spotlight lovers who may find our little creative space useful. 15.01.2022 STUFF IT! LETS STICK IT TO THE MAN !! managed to get a few more weeks to keep the doors open and tie up loose ends around the studio,,,,, so i think the only sensible thing to do is to take advantage of that and.... HAVE A F@#%KIN' PARTY!!!... Although likely to be a bit more low key and of a smaller scale casual kinda gig than originally planned for tonight, but due to popular request we are still going to go ahead with a few bands anyway! and if we are going to do that we may as well get some DJ's to do their thing as well!! so its bands on from about 6 ish till midnight and djs from midnight till "whenever the hell we feel like stopping" first band confirmed is Aviscerus https://www.facebook.com/aviscerus?fref=ts "Real, proper, man-size metal chunks! 13.01.2022 So who's doing what for Aussie day??? If you're looking to do something a little different this year, join us at the studio! We are lucky enough to have a front row seat, right here in our front yard, to the bassendean / Ashfield fireworks. We will be firing up the barbie and enjoying a few beverages and there's sure to be a few jams kicked out plus a toon or two spun on the decks. Everyone welcome, kiddie friendly too, just come well before dusk as the parking and traffic here gets ridiculous. Contact me for more details and to reserve a parking space. Or just rock up! 13.01.2022 A few updated shots of our rehearsal & recording facilities --- we have up to FOUR REHEARSAL ROOMS AVAILABLE 7 days a week, 365 days a year!! We open every eve from 6pm till late for casual bookings, so feel free to come on by and see us if you get that last minute urge! We also have the LIVE STAGE out in the back courtyard, with full sound and lighting set up - perfect for a pre-gig practice or to refine your band's "stage presence". Looks like you've got some time to kill !!! Well then why not try the newly installed amusement/ distraction at Sounds Suite ,, our new POOL TABLE!! That's right, eight ball, snooker etc etc enjoy a game during rehearsal breaks , recording sessions or when ever your band will give you time!

10.01.2022 Another year past and another great New Years Eve party at the 'Suite ... Once again, late into the afternoon on new years day, i find myself still here shuffling through the mess and disorder, wandering in a post party afterglow state of both satisfaction and a longing for the next opportunity. Looking around and attempting to pick up the pieces, both physically and mentally, I feel so very lucky and honoured to have such an amazing collection of great friends, and friends ...of friends, and even the randoms have been pretty cool too ;-) It's been nine years since we first opened our doors to the perth music and party community and nine years since we threw our first New Years Eve party and despite what the rumour mill was trying to pump out recently, this will definitely NOT be the last time we will party here at Sounds Suite. Very much looking forward to the new year and eagerly anticipating and welcoming what lays ahead. To all the Sounds Suite posse, here's to everything Being bigger, better, and bringing more happiness and good times in 2015 ... Respect! See more

10.01.2022 Some of you may have noticed that ive been very quiet of late as i have been hunkering down in the studio trying to finish all the work that has, typically, come to me all at once. But I have finally re-emerged from the depths of the control room to face the world once more, eyes blurry, ears ringing, brain hurting, clutching the master discs for some new sounds to unleash upon the world. Sounds Suite has at last received the final curtain call. We've bumped out the gear, switched off the lights and dragged ourselves off home to bed, at last...... Big LOVE, RESPECT AND THANK YOU to everyone who supported Sounds Suite, and a big "Your Loss!" to those who chose not to. 06.01.2022 Have had a very cool weekend recording the huge sounds of Blackwitch. I often stress to clients the importance of rehearsing before entering the recording studio, plus the benefits of good equipment and having "your sound" already worked out on your equipment. Blackwitch are a testament to this advice with very tight performances and well crafted sounds making for an effortless and very productive session. The EP is due for release a little later this year and is definitely worth a listen!!

01.01.2022 SOUNDS SUITE UPDATE "Pappas got a brand new bag" It looks like there's been yet another change in the developments here at the 'suite , but don't panic, its all good change :-) . So just to let you all know , we are back in business and rehearsal rooms are available as of immediately, and of course I'm taking bookings for recordings, hire department, events etc. We are officially back up on our feet and marching forward with a new spring in our step. There will still be some minor renovations and small changes happening over the next few weeks, but nothing your not used to when coming to Sounds Suite. Calling all our usual regulars , and future ones too of course, come on down to Sounds Suite, or give me a call to book your favourite room and preferred night before someone else dibs it !!
