20.01.2022 W H A T - T H E - R E S E A R C H - S A Y S "Videoconferencing psychotherapy may be particularly well suited to trauma disorders. One of the hallmarks of PTSD is avoidance of uncomfortable situations that may remind the person of the traumatic event, and in our own work, some individuals with PTSD have told us that psychotherapy by videoconferencing offers a more comfortable therapeutic distance between them and the provider as the therapeutic relationship is being establis...hed. Patients may be initially reluctant to disclose personal information, even to mental health professionals. Telehealth can encourage patients to exchange more information with the provider since they feel less intimidated than during in-person interactions. In fact, some patients rated telehealth higher than in-person encounters in terms of ease of self-expression." #WhatTheResearchSays #SourceHealthPartners #OnlineTherapy #Telehealth Research Reference: Backhaus et all. 2012, in the Journal of Psychological Services.

18.01.2022 Attention: TELEHEALTH CLINICIANS Can you spare 30mins to complete an online survey (or 2)? Please consider participating in these research projects being conducted by La Trobe University. All Australian mental health clinicians are eligible. We are hoping to recruit 200 participants to each study by late September, so it would be wonderful if you could also please like, share and forward this information to others too.... In Study 1, we would like to find out about mental health clinicians’ perspectives on the use of telehealth psychology, and also how they have been affected by the rapid transition to telehealth psychology necessitated by COVID19 restrictions. To find out more https://redcap.latrobe.edu.au/redcap/surveys/?s=HC7RWHP87A In Study 2, we would like to find out about mental health clinicians’ perspectives on, and use of, guided self-help in their practice. 18.01.2022 What makes SOURCE HEALTH different to other similar platforms...? Just like other similar platforms we provide a service of connecting the Mental Health Professional with the client. However, we then GO ONE STEP FURTHER...... Knowing that the client is now in the care of the Mental Health Professional, we then take it upon ourselves to in turn support the Helper. We know how isolating solo private practice can be. We know how easy burnout can occur. And that is where we come in. Once of the many ways we do this is by providing a dedicated Source Health Partners Online Community and Mastermind of fellow Mental Health Professionals. Within this space we delivery exclusive continuing professional development, group peer supervision, and business mentoring for our Source Health Partners. Our aim is to be your partner in supporting and building your very own private practice For more information on becoming a Source Health Partner please email [email protected]. #SourceHealthPartner #WhenHelpingIsACalling #OnlineTherapy

16.01.2022 F I N D I N G - T H E - R I G H T - W O R D A search of the literate reveals a multitude of terms being used internationally for the provision of mental health and allied health services via information and communication technologies (for example via phone or internet). These terms include:... * Telehealth * Telemental health * E-Health * E-Therapy * E-Counselling * Telepsychiatry * Videoconferencing Psychotherapy * Cyber-Counselling * Online Therapy * Virtual Therapy * Web Therapy In Australia the government, more specifically the Department of Health, has taken on board the definition as provided by the International Organisation for Standardisation, which defines Telehealth as the ‘use of telecommunication techniques for the purpose of providing telemedicine, medical education, and health education over a distance’, while drawing a distinction between this and telemedicine, which is defined as the ‘use of advanced telecommunication technologies to exchange health information and provide health care services across geographic, time, social and cultural barriers’. To date, the Australian Mental Health field, has adopted the term 'Telehealth' in line with the Medical model, which is to be expected, given that many clients are utilising Medicare Item Numbers to access rebates, when eligible. Here at Source Health we prefer the term Online Therapy, as it feels like the most apt description of what we do #WhatTheResearchSays #SourceHealthPartners #OnlineTherapy #Telehealth

01.01.2022 D I S P A R I T I E S - I N - H E A L T H - C A R E A recent report in the Journal of Telemedicine and E-Health into the update of telehealth in New York City revealed that: The COVID-19 pandemic has magnified existing disparities in health care showing inequity in access to the very tool intended to improve access to health care. This was due to barriers around language, technology, cost, and marketing strategies which were impacting on the equitable access and use of ...telemedicine and virtual care services. Although no such research has as yet been reported in Australia, here at Source Health we are mindful of possible similar access difficulties within our local communities. This report highlights the importance of ensuring: 1. That multi-lingual service provider are available to support clients of all linguistic backgrounds. Alternatively, translation services need to be utilised. This support must extend across all parts of the service including choice of service provider. 2. A willingness and capacity to offer both teleconference and phone sessions, especially for our rural and remote communities where wifi and internet connectivity is either unreliable or totally non-existant. 3. The continued available and access to claim telehealth rebates under Medicare, with private insurance and health funds to follow suit. 4. Continued and increased educational marketing around the availability of online therapy via telehealth and how to access such. #WhatTheResearchSays #SourceHealthPartners #OnlineTherapy #Telehealth REFERENCE: "Geocode Maps Spotlight Disparities in Telehealth Utilization During the COVID-19 Pandemic in New York City" by Maria Lame, David Leyden, and Shari L.
