19.01.2022 Today, there is a dreadful environmental crisis on our hands and the production of hemp fibre is a highly sustainable process. It is carbon negative because it actually absorbs CO2 from the air. It can be produced with half the amount of water and land in comparison to cotton. It can be easily blended with other fibres so why is hemp clothing not widespread? Prior to the '80s, hemp fibres had a very rough texture and couldn’t be used for apparel. However, in the 1980s, Chines...e scientists figured out how to remove lignin from hemp fibres without losing its strength. Today it is similar to linen and can be used to make anything that is made out of cotton. The fabric is absorbent,thus it keeps his colour and is very breathable. Hemp is highly durable and does not lose its shape easily. The fact that it is anti-bacterial and blocks ultraviolet rays doesn't hurt. Turning to hemp fabric is a big step you can take as a conscious consumer and will go a long way in saving our planet. There is a good chance hemp will be the textile of the future. Behind her personable exterior lies a savvy businesswoman with an interesting story to tell. With a decade’s experience in the overseas sourcing industry, Nicole has found herself working around the world.... Nicole recalls, I actually lived in China for three years, facilitating sourcing directly for some of the world’s largest brands. That was certainly an interesting time in my life. While in China, Nicole observed many small businesses attempting to source products directly from China without any expert assistance. Business owners had heard about the potentially huge benefits and wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to expand. Despite their best efforts, when it came down to it the stumbling blocks often proved too high. They were sending thousands of dollars to manufacturers they’d never even met. They experienced issues with poor product quality, delays from language barriers - even manufacturers going completely cold. It wasn’t pleasant to watch. This experience was the inspiration which ultimately led to the creation of Sourcing Elements.
