23.01.2022 Dear Parents and Carers, With every new system and ways of working there are bound to be problems and issues that were unforeseen. At present there is an issue with the internet server in EQ due to an excessive amount of users trying to log on at one time. The department is working to fix the problem.... While we wait for this problem to be sorted out I have asked the teachers to email the work out to their students using their EQ email accounts. These emails will be sent at the start of the students scheduled lesson. For those students who dont have access to emails or a computer then they can pick up a pack from their school. These packs will be ready for collection by Thursday/Friday. I apologise for any stress/inconvenience caused by this situation. Stay safe and healthy, Miles Karipa College Principal

21.01.2022 Dear Parents & Caregivers As you may be aware, health authorities across the nation are currently responding to the emergence in Australia of the Coronavirus that has emanated from China. I attach information from Queensland Health which includes advice that if children become sick (e.g. fever, flu-like symptoms, sore throat, headaches, breathing difficulties) after having recently had links to Wuhan or the Province of Hubei within China, or in contact with someone who is a c...onfirmed case, they should present immediately to a doctor and not attend school while unwell. Our school always follows the advice of public health authorities in these circumstances and I would ask you to be especially aware of this current situation in the interest of public health. Thank you for your support in relation to this matter. Yours sincerely, Miles Karipa Principal

14.01.2022 2020 Early School Leavers survey The Queensland Government is seeking the support of the school community for the annual survey of Year 10, 11 and 12 students who left school in 2019, before completing Year 12. This short, confidential survey collects information about what young people are doing the year after leaving school. The results of the survey help provide valuable information to improve services available to school leavers in the future. Between August and Septembe...r, these school leavers can expect to receive instructions to complete a web-based survey or a telephone call from the Queensland Government Statisticians Office. Please encourage them to take part. If their contact details have changed, please assist the interviewer with their updated details or forward the survey to their new address so they can participate. 13.01.2022 Term 2 Update Dear Parents and Carers, This is an update as to how our campuses will roll out during term 2.... Term 2 will start Tuesday 21st April with the structure which follows the guidelines set out by the Government and Education Department. The Premier and Minister for Education have outlined the following for the first 5 weeks of Term. All students who are able to stay home and engage with the on-line learning arrangements put into place by the school should do so. The expectation is that people working from home would supervise their children at home. The exceptions are as follows: Children of essential workers on days when they are not able to be supervised at home and no other arrangements can be made. (Essential worker- any worker who must continue to attend their workplace for essential business during this time). Vulnerable children include children identified by the school or who : o Are currently receiving services from Child Safety, including children who are subject to a child protection order. o Subject to a youth justice order. Children in designated indigenous communities. I would like to reassure parents and caregivers that you are not expected to teach your child while they are working from home. Our teachers have developed lessons that the students can follow with their help, so you can breathe a sigh of relief that you dont have to take a crash course in 2020 English Literature and Mathematics. All of our students will be contacted by their teachers starting from Monday 20th April to establish the new routines and expectations. Finally, to all of our students, in particular our 2020 graduating seniors, the government, Education Queensland and schools will continue to work closely together so that you will not be disadvantaged during this time. Our part is to provide the support and the necessary resources and your part is to continue to put in the time and the effort to succeed. Stay safe and healthy, Miles Karipa College Principal
