25.01.2022 SNAKES OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA As the weather warms up in WA, snakes begin to slither out from their winter hiding places in search of food and a mate, as spring is breeding season. Here are some amazing photos of some of the serpents you might find out and about in our state this spring. ... The pictures were snapped by Ross McGibbon who has a passion for reptiles and wildlife photography. If you encounter a snake you may feel the instinct to run away, however sudden movements may provoke the snake into behaviour which could result in a bite. The safest options are to back away slowly or keep completely still, with a snake more likely to be afraid of you than you are of them. ? Call triple-0 straight away Keep calm and stay completely still Don't wash the bite so the venom can be identified Have another person apply a firm compression bandage, moving upwards on the limb Mark the bite spot for doctors to identify Make a splint with something long and sturdy Don't elevate the limb above the heart, to help slow the spread of venom For more tips on what to do if you encounter a snake or get bitten read this story: https://ab.co/2zZU81C Ross McGibbon Reptile Photography.

19.01.2022 Aggggh pulling our hair out this morning Parks and Wildlife Rangers have just reported they are dealing with another illegal campfire at Kilcarnup. And another one at Boranup North Point yesterday. What sort of drongo lights a campfire in the middle of summer in the middle of the bush? ... Firstly we gotta say awesome effort yesterday from the Facebook community in getting our Muppet of the Year Campfire message out. Over 50,000 people reached. But we need the message to hit the muppets that are lighting them. Especially as we head into NYE and a warm few days ahead. Like, share and spread. Tag a drongo. It's a pretty simple message. It's summer. NO CAMPFIRES. If you see a suspicious fire call 000 & report it. Campfires in National Parks can be reported directly (anonymously) to Parks & Wildlife on 97525555. This image is what an escaped campfire looks like in the Margaret River region. One escaped ember started all that.

17.01.2022 Well that was a busy weekend, fox shooting Saturday morning then I had a call for an injured Kangaroo to be euthanised, I was then called for a snake removal job, after being home for 10 minutes a second call for a snake removal job, while out sorting the second snake the phone rings for a fox problem. Then I finally get home and sure enough I got a message for a third snake but couldn't make it as I was at a Xmas party. Whilst at the party another fox problem came my way which will be getting sorted this coming weekend. Gotta love the volunteer work
