23.01.2022 Lloyds Beal (part of the SWL Group) have created this RAT Cage (Ram Air Turbine) The cage is used to protect personnel around the aircraft when the RAT is undergoing routine repair, inspection, test and maintenance. The Ram Air Turbine (RAT) is at the heart of an aircraft’s emergency power system. 21.01.2022 Lloyds Beal Site Services Ltd, part of the SWL Group of Companies, were called in to design and install an Overhead Runway to facilitate boiler valve maintenance at one of their customers sites in South Wales. On completion of the installation the customer decided they wanted a structure building around the boiler to protect against the elements. Lloyds Beal carried out all aspects of the installation from the steelworks to cladding of the finished building.

17.01.2022 One of a set of Aircraft Jacks manufactured by our Wales Depot to help BA simplify their process when working on aircraft landing gear, these jacks are used mainly on the Boeing 747.

16.01.2022 SWL Rope Lifting & Testing Ltd have recently completed a refurbishment and re commissioning of a 1940 Vaughan Double Girder Gantry Crane in the Historic Dockyard Portsmouth for PNBPT in Shed 4. Known as crane 3, this crane had been out of service for approx. 30 years. It required a complete new power feed system, re wiring of control panel, switches and motors, and lots of TLC. Having to overcome asbestos coated cables, and seized mechanics amongst the problems that we encou...ntered, however working together with the client in a busy boatshed that houses many exhibits and ongoing projects for the International Boatbuilding Training College, the project came in under budget and on time. Finally completed with a re roping of the main hoist and working load limit test using a water bag the crane has been returned to service. You may note the odd colour scheme on the crane bridge, which is in fact camouflage from WW2 as the end of this shed wasn’t enclosed until after the war. www.swl.org.uk

15.01.2022 Here is a prototype aluminium trolley designed and manufactured for a customer to suit a particular application. The trolley was supplied with a blue powder coat finish and fully certified. The trolley will be trialled and tested for its intended use to see if any improvements are required before manufacturing additional units. 15.01.2022 A traditional 8 Strand hand splice being carried out on a 60 metre Mooring Warp In-house at our Southampton workshop. This is just one of the many splicing techniques that we offer our customers. 14.01.2022 An SWL engineer carrying out the Proof load testing of a refurbished offshore Cable Quadrant to DNV standard. Test load was just over 16.5 Tonne and the test was successful. Proof testing of frames and equipment after refurbishment or repair, is a way to check the structural integrity of an item before being put back into service and prevent unexpected failure during use. Often, this type of testing would be used in conjunction with NDT testing to check the integrity of the welds pre and post load test and to check for weld failure or cracks.

05.01.2022 Here’s an example of one of SWL’s architectural rigging projects. We carried out the manufacture and supply of custom Stainless Steel balustrade wires, to compliment a newly installed Balustrade and patio. There are many fittings and configurations to choose from, and we are able to manufactured on site using our portable swaging machine. From gaurdrail wires onboard boats, to balustrade and stairwell projects, whatever your requirements, I’m sure we can help.

01.01.2022 A test being carried out on a machined part for Rolls Royce to verify load capability. The load required was just over 7 Tonne. The force was applied through the centre of the tool, with the load being distributed around the outer ring.
