25.01.2022 A few weeks ago we had Dave bring us Gods Word, and also information about the work of IJM.

24.01.2022 Missed Sunday's sermon, or want to rewatch? Available now. Feel free to share around.

23.01.2022 Preparing for Sunday Read: Acts 1:1-11 Ask: What clues do these verses give us about how we should understand and interpret the book of Acts?... How do they help us understand the mission of the church today? What questions do I have about these verses? Pray: That God would speak through this series in Acts powerfully, that we would be encouraged and equipped in the work he has called us to. For all those involved in serving on Sunday, that their service would be a great blessing, and bring honour to God. That we would all come eager to hear God's Word, and ready to worship God together.

23.01.2022 Preparing for Sunday Read: Acts 2:1-21 Ask: What promises from the Old Testament do you see being fulfilled in these verses?... What do we learn about the ongoing work of Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit? What questions do I have about these verses? Pray: Thank God for the blessing of coming together, and the assurance of his presence, as we worship. That God would be honoured through our time, as he works in our hearts and draws us to himself. That we would be conscious of encouraging one another on Sundays, and welcoming new people.

22.01.2022 Prepare for Sunday Ask: What do these verses say about the disciple's joy? What do they say about the source and depth of that joy?... What questions do I have about these verses? Pray: For all those involved in leading and serving this Sunday, Josh as he leads, musicians, creche helpers, for the sound, welcoming and data people. For Clinton as he prepares the sermon, that God would speak clearly to us through the message. That God would build and strengthen his church as we meet, that he would use each of us to encourage others.

22.01.2022 There are many things that seem to oppose the church and the work of the gospel in this world. We sometimes wonder how we, as a smallish church, or as ordinary disciples, can make a difference in the world for the cause of Jesus. As we open Acts chapter 2 we hardly have great cause for confidence. Jesus has gone. The disciples only number 110. Nothing seems to be happening. But then Jesus does what he promised to do. The Holy Spirit comes. And everything changes. As the chapter unfolds we start to get a feel for the incredible difference that the Holy Spirit makes as Gods promised kingdom begins to come in power. People are changed. The gospel is proclaimed. Disciples are made.

22.01.2022 Its that time of year again where we think about New Years resolutions. You know, those things that you forget after a week or two of the new year. Those things that we want to be different for 2020, or things we want to grow in, or do more of. These things are great, but as we will see from the book of Haggai, there is something more important than these resolutions. And it is all about our priorities.

21.01.2022 Perhaps the easiest way ever to invite someone to South Barwon?

21.01.2022 Prepare for Sunday Read: James 4:7-17 Pray:... That we would be strengthened and renewed as we participate in the Lord's Supper. For Caleb as he prepares the sermon, that God would speak clearly to us through the message. For those who are not yet believers in Jesus, that God, by his Word and the Spirit would work powerfully to cause them to come to faith in Christ. See more

21.01.2022 Sometimes life is incredibly good and sometimes it is overwhelmingly difficult. We naturally like it when it is good and hate it when it is hard, yet spiritually, there is actually blessing in times of difficulty, and difficulty in times of blessing. Deuteronomy 8 opens up both these realities, along with the solution to both.

20.01.2022 With a new year comes new goals, resolutions and plans. Plans to buy that new house or go on that holiday, to be a better friend or commit to a growth group. James wisely reminds us there are some key truths about life that affect every plan we make and our success or failure is not in our hands but Gods.

20.01.2022 On Christmas morning people from across the world will sing Joy to the World. This is a time of the year when joy is often at the forefront of our minds, as we seek to make Christmas something special, something to remember, an event to make us happy. But Christmas will soon be over, and a new source of joy will need to be found. But as Jesus continues to prepare disciples he has a lot to say about joy. But this is a very different type of joy. Its not something to be pursued. Its not temporary, nor shallow. Its the elusive joy that we so desperately want, and yet so seldom find. Its the joy that comes from knowing the resurrected Jesus.

20.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what to say when you have an opportunity to share your faith with someone? Whats wise? Useful? Not going to turn someone off? In Acts 2 we have recorded for us the first-ever evangelistic message after the coming of the Holy Spirit, where Peter stands before a crowd of people, asking questions about what is going on. The sermon that we have recorded for us has one central message: Jesus, who is Lord and Christ. As he speaks Peter takes us to the very heart of the gospel, and the heart of our faith. Its all about Jesus Christ. There is no faith without him, there is no hope without him, and there is no good news to share, without him.

18.01.2022 Ask: According to these verses, what is the relationship between: * The Father and the Son? * The Son and his disciples? * His disciples with one another?... * His disciples with the world? What questions do I have about these verses? Pray: - That God would prepare us for our time of worship, so that we would come ready to praise him, learn, and encourage each other. - That God's word would be clearly preached, and the Holy Spirit powerfully at work as we listen and obey. - That we would welcome and enfold new people well, especially as we have lunch together.

17.01.2022 Meet our camp speaker: Pete Sorrenson Pete became a Christian thanks to the faith of a mum, the courage of a mate and the persevering grace of Jesus. Hes been married to Erica for 20 years, has four great kids and on days off enjoys cutting all electronic access to the outside world - unless in the form of televised sport... Pete will be speaking on Saturday morning, helping us to share our faith with others in everyday life.

14.01.2022 Ask: - What structure do you notice to Peters message? What is the centre of this sermon? - What can we learn about our own efforts in sharing the gospel? - What questions do I have about these verses?... Pray: - For all those involved in leading and serving this Sunday, musicians, Sunday school and creche leaders, for the sound, welcoming and data people. - For Clinton as he prepares the sermon, that God would speak clearly to us through the message. - That God would build and strengthen his church as we meet, that he would use each of us to encourage others.

13.01.2022 The times, they are achanging. Christians are becoming less and less popular in Australia... and it seems like this will keep happening in the year 2020. Is persecution coming? If so, how should we respond? How should we prepare?

12.01.2022 First State Family "Equip" service for 2020! Save the date and not to be missed!

12.01.2022 Are you ready for a serious fight to the death? Do you realise that as a Christian you are licenced to kill? Do you know that you have a mandate to use it? The Puritan John Owen said: Be killing sin or it will be killing you. In other words, our intention towards sin must mirror its hostile and deadly intentions towards us: death and destruction. This was precisely Pauls point when he wrote: For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live (Romans 8:13). This is your licence to kill. The context is war and the goal is survival. Kill or be killed.

11.01.2022 Weve probably all had moments where we have wondered what other people are thinking, wishing we could have an insight into someone elses mind, and what concerns them, what occupies them, what makes them act or speak in a certain way. As we continue to look at this prayer of Jesus we get an incredible insight into what Jesus was thinking about, and concerned about, as he prepares for his arrest and ultimately his death on the cross. And amazingly, he was thinking about his disciples. About his church. He was thinking about who we are to him, and what it means for him to leave us to return to the Father. He brings these things to his heavenly Father in prayer and gives us clarity about who we are to him, and his ongoing mission in the world.

11.01.2022 Prepare for Sunday Ask: What do these verses say about the king whom God is promising? What can those who live under this king expect?... What questions do I have about these verses? Pray: As we reflect on the birth of Christ, ask that God would renew our hearts through this well-known event, causing us great joy in celebrating Christmas. That God would prepare us for Sunday so that we come excited to worship him and to build on another up as we serve each other. That new people would be present on Sunday, and that the truth of the gospel would be presented in an attractive way, through the sermon, songs and our interactions.

10.01.2022 Want to rewatch Sundays sermon or pass it on to someone else? Its now available to watch. Feel free to share it around. (It also contains a legendary kids talk)

10.01.2022 Preacher: Reuben Capill Pray: For Reuben as he prepares the sermon, that God would speak clearly to us through the message. That God's Word would work powerfully in our lives, transforming our hearts and minds, and that we would respond with faithful obedience.

10.01.2022 Have you ever been given a job to do for which you felt completely inadequate, overwhelmed, unsuited? Last time we were in Johns gospel we looked at the hatred of the world for Jesus and his disciples, and Jesus warning that we should not fall away in the midst of that opposition. But even more than that, we saw that he told us that we will bear witness to him in the midst of that hostility. How overwhelming is that? Who on earth could feel prepared for that task? But we are not alone, and we are not underprepared for this task. After the cross, Jesus sent the Spirit, and it is he that will be at work, both in the world and in us.

09.01.2022 The times, they are a'changing. Christians are becoming less and less popular in Australia... and it seems like this will keep happening in the year 2020. Is persecution coming? If so, how should we respond? How should we prepare?

08.01.2022 Want to rewatch Sunday's sermon or pass it on to someone else? It's now available to watch. Feel free to share it around. (It also contains a legendary kid's talk)

07.01.2022 Ask: What do these verses say about the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the world? What do they say about his work in disciples? What questions do I have about these verses?... Pray: Asking that the Holy Spirit would be active as we hear God's word, bringing us both understanding and conviction. For new people to be present on Sunday, and that we would welcome and enfold them well. That God would prepare all our hearts, with the focus on him, so that we might truly worship him.

06.01.2022 We have probably all had to the situation where we have been certain of something, absolutely sure, but ended up being wrong. Maybe it was where we left the TV remote, or what date our wedding anniversary is, or any number of other occurrences. But is it possible for this to happen with our salvation? Can we be sure that we are saved, that we belong to Jesus and have eternal life? Or is it possible that we could only think that is true, to find out later that it isnt? This Sunday we begin to wrap up our series in John 13-17, as we listen in on Jesus prayer to his Father, where Jesus firstly prays for himself, and then for his disciples. Its a great prayer, but sometimes hard to understand. But one thing shines through brightly there is salvation certainty for those who belong to him.

05.01.2022 How does being a Christian change your life? Does it change your values? Your motives? Maybe it causes you to tell strangers about Jesus! These are all good things, but in this letter about a runaway slave we learn something more.

04.01.2022 Ask: - What structure do you notice to Peter's message? What is the centre of this sermon? - What can we learn about our own efforts in sharing the gospel? - What questions do I have about these verses?... Pray: - For all those involved in leading and serving this Sunday, musicians, Sunday school and creche leaders, for the sound, welcoming and data people. - For Clinton as he prepares the sermon, that God would speak clearly to us through the message. - That God would build and strengthen his church as we meet, that he would use each of us to encourage others.

04.01.2022 We have become very used to companies telling us what their mission is. In fact, mission statements have become so common that we tend not to give them a second glance. In Ephesians 3:8-12 the Apostle Paul reminds his readers of his mission, and by extension that of the Christian church. By hearing Pauls words across the centuries we, who are so prone to forget, will be reminded of what the Lord called us to: A mission to change the world!

01.01.2022 Ask: - What does Jesus ask the Father for in this prayer? - What do these requests say about his mission, and his concern for his disciples? - What questions do I have about these verses?... Pray: - For all those involved in leading and serving this Sunday, musicians, creche leaders, for the sound, welcoming and data people. - For Clinton as he prepares the sermon, that God would speak clearly to us through the message. - That God would build and strengthen his church as we meet, that he would use each of us to encourage others.

01.01.2022 Starting this Sunday, we will only be meeting online via Zoom. A church email has been sent with access information. If you have not received this, please contact Clinton.
