09.01.2022 Did you know Hay is 1 of the 100 communities in Australia that grow cotton? In the grand scheme of things, Australia is a relatively minor global cot...ton producer, but in a good year, we're the third largest exporter of the fibre. Cotton’s strength and absorbency makes it an ideal fabric to make clothes and homewares, and industrial products, uniforms and other types of clothing. One 227kg bale alone can produce 215 pairs of denim jeans, 250 single bed sheets, 750 shirts, 1,200 t-shirts, 3,000 nappies, 4,300 pairs of socks, 680,000 cotton balls, or 2,100 pairs of boxer shorts!!!! The end of June generally marks the end of the cotton harvest in our region which means growers will soon start sewing rotating crops such as faba beans, chickpeas, maize and wheat, which helps to minimise pests and diseases, reduce pesticide use, retain soil moisture levels, build and maintain healthy soils, and better manage soil nutrients. Take a look out the car window next time you're driving towards Hay on The Cobb Highway to see it all in action! #theplainsarecalling See more

05.01.2022 With defoliation just around the corner the Cotton Industry is reminding all growers, consultants and applicators to be vigilant when applying harvest aids this... season. With reduced hectares of cotton across the valley’s, we will have the opportunity to allow for optimum conditions for applying harvest aids. We have the advantage of the improved crop mapping platform https://crop.satamap.com.au/, where it has the function of identifying sensitive crops in our regions. We encourage farmers to use this platform to share ALL crops in your area. Although we hope that all crops are recorded on this platform, we still encourage you to refer to your PAMP (pre-season meetings with neighbours) and communicate with those around you in this time. Please continue to update SataCrop with every planting following the recent rain we have had. For more info visit https://cottoninfo.com.au//defoliation-what-do-consultants
