23.01.2022 Leslie Goldsmith was a resident of our St Lawrence care home in Harden NSW, but little was known about his background and war time experiences. Les had no contactable family and after his passing, no home for his war medals and belongings. Thanks to some caring staff members, Leslie's story can now be told, and his efforts acknowledged. A permanent commemorative wall unveiled on Remembrance Day pays tribute to Leslie and others who displayed courage and self-sacrifice. read the full story here.

22.01.2022 Our residents reflected on Remembrance Day this week and remembered all those who have lost their lives in wars and conflicts, and the sacrifice our service personnel have made in war time. Many residents have very strong memories and emotions about their experiences, but it's also an opportunity for them to share their stories, and for us to listen.

20.01.2022 Remembrance Day is an important time of reflection for our residents, their families and friends. Many of our residents have served in wars and conflicts or know someone who did, so it's important to honour them and commemorate this very special day. For many of us, we'll never know the battles fought and the hardship endured on our behalf.

20.01.2022 Spring is still being celebrated around our homes. In Grafton, there was peace and love in the air, and perhaps some confidence about a little normality returning after such a challenging year.

17.01.2022 Our Corowa care home residents were very excited to be recently having their first church service since February. Rev Richard played the piano and gave an encouraging message about new seasons ahead. Everyone appreciated the positivity after such a challenging year. Residents could also be heard singing along to some of their church favorites as the Rev Richard asked for requests.

16.01.2022 Our Plumpton Village residents were encouraged to join in fundraising for the Cancer Council NSW by walking in a Relay for Life event recently. The funds raised will help fund vital cancer support services, and our residents know it just takes one person to make a difference. Our generous walkers & contributors raised over $600.

10.01.2022 This year due to COVID restrictions, our Thornton Park NSW residents were unable to invite families and friends to their annual memorial service so, residents and staff came together in the Chapel to remember and celebrate the life and memory of those who are no longer with us. Many residents and staff were in attendance and all involved throughout the service with the lighting of candles, hanging of hearts, poems, songs and in presenting white roses that were placed into a vase.

09.01.2022 The 2020 Tokyo Olympics may have been cancelled, but older people all around Australia are still taking part in the Tokyo Marathon, including some of our very own residents. The 30 day marathon included completing legs of the track and passing Tokyo landmarks as they race around tracks set up at aged care homes. It is hoped the Tokyo Marathon will awaken the competitive spirit within our residents and inspire them to move more. Our Maroubra Kildare Team have completed more than 80 Marathons now! Their efforts have inspired both young and old to keep moving during COVID-19.

09.01.2022 We are introducing some old look new technology for residents in some of our homes, with retro handsets specially designed for mobile phones and iPads to make phone calls fun again. Combining old school style with new technology helps our residents to relive the good old days and enjoy the classic feeling of twirling the telephone receiver cord around your fingers until its all tangled up as you chat happily with your family and friends.

05.01.2022 NAIDOC Week was recently celebrated at our Maroubra care home. The week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Residents gathered in the function room and welcomed elders past and present, as well as welcoming new resident, Mary. Mary has extensive knowledge of Aboriginal Arts and was very happy to provide a presentation for the residents on the history of Aboriginal Arts, followed by mixing of paints and drawing activities.
