05.05.2022 UNI READY - PARTNERSHIP WITH CURTIN UNIVERSITY The UniReady Enabling Program is usually only available to students directly through Curtin University, however Southern Hills Christian College and Curtin University have entered into a partnership that allows us to deliver the UniReady In Schools Program to Year 12 students at the College. If completed successfully, it will provide students with a notional ATAR of 70 and English competency, Curtin’s minimum entry required for ...undergraduate courses. The UniReady in Schools Program has been approved as an Endorsed Program. This means it will contribute to a student’s WACE, as well as providing entry to Curtin University. The UniReady course consists of four units: Fundamentals of Academic Writing, Foundations of Communication, Introduction to Humanities and Introduction Health Sciences. At Southern Hills, the course is run by Dr van Rensburg and Dr du Plooy. For more information, contact us at (08) 9497 1751

03.05.2022 CURTIN AHEAD EXCURSION On Monday, our year 10 Students travelled to Curtin University for the Curtin AHEAD excursion. The excursion builds on the learning from last week's Curtin AHEAD incursion. When the students arrived on campus, they were welcomed with the following activities:... 1. Students went into groups of their interest that had been identified at the first visit at school basically science/engineering or humanities. Each group then did a tour of the faculty buildings of their interest. 2. Morning tea 3. Activity in class in their book they looked at either uni pathways or TAFE pathways and courses which are available. 4. Lunch 5. QR code hunt. Students in groups of three or four and had to find six QR codes placed around the immediate building, return to class, scan the codes and then write up the information. Each code was about a section of the campus and what it offered. 6. Life game on the iPads 7. Quiz about what they remembered about the uni campus. 8. Return to school A big thank you to our host Curtin Connect, for an informative insight into their campus.

27.04.2022 Southern Hills is your local polling booth for this Saturday’s election! You may be aware that this Saturday (21 May 2022) is the date for the Federal Election. Southern Hills Christian College gymnasium will be an official polling location for the Australian electoral Commission (AEC) and will be operational from 8:00am until 6:00pm. The College was also a polling location in 2019, with just less than 700 voters coming through during the course of the day. So, if you’re look...ing for a relaxed, local atmosphere in which to cast your vote then look no further than the College gymnasium this weekend! Located at 86 Admiral Road, Bedfordale.

18.04.2022 Free Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) for each student have now been delivered to the school. These free RATs will support our students to continue to attend school for face-to-face learning and will minimise disruption to their schooling. You will be able you to test your child at home if they are feeling unwell. You can also use these RATs if your child is a close contact to enable them to test daily and continue to attend school, as long as they receive a negative result, remai...n asymptomatic, and wear a mask if they are in Year 7 and above. Email communications have been sent with further information on the distribution of these tests. If your child becomes symptomatic they should stay home and be tested for COVID-19. You should notify the school if your child tests positive for COVID-19. Refer to healthywa.wa.gov.au for information on close contact definition, testing and isolation requirements.

03.04.2022 CAREER EXPO Last week Thursday, our year 10 and 11 students caught the train to the city to explore some possibilities for future careers and opportunities. The Career Expo had nearly 100 vendors and it was a terrific opportunity to engage with universities, TAFE, skill development recruitment agencies, mining companies, The Defence Force and many, many more. Leading up to this excursion, students prepared some research about the vendors and identified 4 vendors they absolutely wanted to investigate. During the course of the morning, students were instructed to collect footage of vendors and interact with them in order to complete a small video/presentation for class.

This camp is a rite of passage and a key part of how we grow our students. Today they are tackling Bluff Knoll.

19.01.2022 Year 1 and 2 have been learning about the 'Olden Days' this term, and all their learning was culminated into a day of activities. They made lemonade, ice-cream and butter from scratch. They dressed up in olden day outfits and played old fashioned games. They even got to sit in a beautiful old car. The students then shared what they had been learning with their parents at a beautiful assembly. Well done!

06.01.2022 What a great NAIDOC week we have had. Students have been learning about indigenous people, seasons, and history.

05.01.2022 Today the whole of Primary spent the day in our beautiful bushland play area learning about mathematics. They did this by making patterns with leaves and sticks, completing a treasure hunt by counting steps, cutting sticks into a meter, and building towers that could hold 3 kilograms of rocks. It was also amazing having Collective Worship out on the oval. What a great day!

01.01.2022 What is Fairy Bread Day? Did you know that 1 in 4 young people in Australia is experiencing mental health issues? Worse, 70% of those who need help won't be able to get it. To continue work on closing this gap, Reachout.com has partnering with Dollar Sweets to celebrate Fairy Bread Day. We had our own Fairy Bread Day party! Students came to school in bright plain colours and enjoyed a fairy bread treat at recess.
