22.01.2022 Quite a large steel framed patio completed this week. !!! Thanks to Southwest powdercoaters for the colouring-- ( they even made my welds look good !! ) This patio was tested today with very high winds ... And no rattles or wobbles !!!

21.01.2022 So.... Repair or replace ??? That is the question. !!! In this case it replace, replace and replace !! This beach house has weathered the storm for the last 25 years. But now. All the rotted verandah beams and steel posts need replacing. ... EASY ... With new laminated kapur beams and galvanised tubing posts. The old timber would have lasted longer if the top sides were painted... By painting the other 3 sides the water was effectively " trapped. " inside the timber. There was also some very " interesting " building practices in those days.... Joining beams in mid air with steel plates ??? Not recommended. See more

17.01.2022 #officewithaview My office for the day. Great view when the ocean is so blue !!

17.01.2022 Replacing old and rusted with new and shiny is sometimes difficult.... Difficult because the box gutter usually goes in first and everything else on top of it.... But easy because everything is tek screwed down !!!! Not too long ago in a place not far from here the roof would be fixed on with roofing nails !!! Very hard to remove !!!... And then finished with my favourite addition.... BIGGER DOWNPIPES !!! See more

15.01.2022 A sneaky Friday job to finish the week. This landing and small roof will give access and protection to this external door !!! Treated pine may not be a perfect external timber for our climate but it has some really nice grains and will look great with lots of oil to protect it !!

15.01.2022 Another funky timber framed project finished and ready for summer !! This pergola matches the pitch if the shed and is mounted on chunky timber posts !! Also beautiful bit of artwork by the owners on the shed door !!!

15.01.2022 I love a challenge ... But ?!?!? HOW...

14.01.2022 One last job to almost get this tv studio operational !!! This plinth ( giant dance floor !!) in the middle of the office raises the news readers head to the correct height !! Timber framed construction can not be easier !!

14.01.2022 I don't usually like scrapping so many perfectly good walls !!! But sometimes they are just all in the wrong place !! A 9 cubic meter skip bin filled to the top with gyprock !!! Am hoping we don't have to do that again in the near future !! Out with the old... In with the new !!!

14.01.2022 Before.... And after..... This rotten timber framed laundry was easily replaced with new floor, walls and ceiling. Using the best of the original timber cladding the side wall was finished to match !!

13.01.2022 Another reason to use a qualified carpenter to work on your house.... This was found today holding a handrail on the edge of a deck. 5 nails into corrugated iron -- to save someone from a 6 foot drop. Could have been a nasty accident. ... Because of these practices a lot of what I do is now required to have engineering plans upon submission of plans to shire. Adding to the cost for everyone. Safer yes... But everything should be built to a high standard anyway.

12.01.2022 A busy morning gives these people a new set of steps and some paving to the front door. The old steps were under the building and a bit rickety..... Also had to remember to duck or hit your head. !!!

08.01.2022 Another deck completed just before summer !!! This one is all pine construction with stainless steel fixings. An additional 16 m 2 on this sloping block with amazing ocean views !!! There is only one advantage to using pine over hardwood and composite decking- that is the cost. It's cheaper to buy but may cost you more in replacement and maintenance !

07.01.2022 Made on Wednesday - stacked on Thursday !!! This stylish wardrobe has been waiting a long time to be displayed in this new room !!!

04.01.2022 Old house plus new giant beam equals.... Bigger old house !!!! When this wall comes out and roof goes on it will Make a very big kitchen area !!!

04.01.2022 Today's task is simple... Take most of this house apart and replace the bit that usually goes on first.... Love a Challange but ......

03.01.2022 From an Mdf staircase to a jarrah staircase..... This 12 mm Jarrad flooring was glued, nailed, puttied then sanded !!!! All ready for the painter !!

03.01.2022 Another cool job completed ... Fitting jarrah handrails and stainless steel barriers to this staircase. Always a challenge fitting these 316 stainless cables and fittings. They must conform to Australian standards, have no sharp edges and look good. Most importantly. Whatever you are fixing to must be strong enough. Strong enough to take the tension of the wires- as they must be TIGHT !!... I tune each wire to E minor !!!! Lol La la laaaarr !!

02.01.2022 Unfortunately taking the cheapest quote is not always the best. Have worked the last 2 days for a customer repairing this new patio under approval of the building commission. This patio was the cheapest. Patio installers do not have to be qualified at anything. So my list included things that should have been done correctly. Big enough downpipes.... Bit of fall to downpipes where possible. Securing patio to house-- quite important !! Sometimes what you don't see is most important.

02.01.2022 Another neat collaboration with Saswood Construction.... This office started out as a phone company and has now been transformed into its new purpose !!! Lots of timber framed walls and gyprock. Even a fire proof room with a special door.

02.01.2022 #funkypoolpaving These locally made pavers are a great way to finish around this splash pool !!

01.01.2022 This week ... A challenging second story deck finished. Replaced this rough sawn 30 year old jarrah with new composite wide decking boards. Discovering some rotten floor joists along the way- the owner was very thankful it is now stronger and less " bouncy " Composite decking have their advantages and disadvantages over timber. Biggest advantage is that its almost maintenance free. Disadvantage...... It's quite heavy !!!
