24.01.2022 This week we will be introducing Della Stevens, who is currently in the role of Vice President, yet another huge committee job. All roles on the committee require a passion for dance and dedication. #stde #stde2021 #dancingintasmania Introducing Della I have been volunteering for the STDE for 9 years. In that time I have held the role of Media Officer, Secretary, Vice President. I started very green and did not have much idea about what was involved backstage. I h...ad helped at various other dance competitions with my daughter and her friends, but never really understood what went into running an event. I started volunteering at Launceston’s Festival of Dance and thoroughly loved working alongside that committee who had a beautiful kind vibe. I’ve always loved watching dancers of all ages, especially my daughter Maddie. Seeing children’s passion, the nerves, the thrill of performing and knowing the hard work that goes into just getting on stage has been very rewarding. To remember a routine, be confident and present to an audience is so admirable. I am so lucky that my beautiful girl still choreographs for various soloists and groups and I love that we have dance in common. Committee members come and go and things change just like everything in life, but at the heart of the STDE is a group of women that are committed to providing an amazing dance experience for everyone. One thing that I cannot commit to though is a committee routine on stage, I think I would hyperventilate and need first aid assistance. Wishing you all to be safe, love and light. Della See more

20.01.2022 Continuing on with our STDE committee series, this week you will be hearing from Linda a long-standing committee member who has undertaken a variety of roles over the years. Introducing Linda Phillips My involvement with the STDE started at the Theatre Royal. I was only on the Committee a couple of years when the decision was made to move to the Derwent Entertainment Centre. The move allowed the Eisteddfod to continue to grow and grow it did. I remember one year the Ei...steddfod went for 12 days. It think it was the next year we introduced a second theatre, the Marj Christie Theatre. I have had the privilege of watching many children and young adults dance at the STDE including my 4 children for many years. To say I was disappointed that we had to cancel the Eisteddfod this year is an understatement. July 2021 at Wrest Point can not come quick enough for me. Eisteddfod week is my favourite time of the year.

20.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the wonderful and supportive dance dads out there! We hope your day was truly fabulous xx

19.01.2022 Please follow our new page, share with your friends and change your settings so that you "receive notifications". We will be updating on a regular basis. 2021 will be here before we know it! Keep dancing and keep smiling

15.01.2022 Some of the committee members visited Wrest Point yesterday to do some further scoping out of the venue and to start plotting and planning how we are going to utilise the space. You all deserve a treat! #wrestpoint #stde #staycation

15.01.2022 Memorable Moments We have reached out to all the dancing schools to find out what has been their most memorable moment throughout the last 40+ years of the Southern Tasmanian Dancing Eisteddfods! We can’t wait to share them with you all weekly. We are starting with........ ATJ Dance School For ATJ (All That Jazz), sooo many memories spring to mind and it was quite hard to narrow it down.. So we have 3. Sorry! I thought I would start it off with our previous owner, and much loved teacher, Rachel Webb's fondest memory.. Rach owned the school from 1997-2008 and her fave eisteddfod memory is of her Phoebe's first eisteddfod with her Mumma, when Pheebs was in the 5yrs and under "Twinkles" group with All That Jazz at the DEC in 2007. Our second memory is the year we shared a change room with the lovely MB Dancers (which we ABSOLUTELY LOVED), and it was Open Lyrical night. The girls had all finished doing hair and makeup and were getting changed into costume, once all changed, we looked at each other and cracked up laughing.. Same same, but different?! And our final memory is one we will all agree on. The man who creates our memories - Michael Webb! How often do you look back at your professional photos that Michael has taken and you instantly know the routine, the moment, the "say knickers" and the friendly smiling face of Michael and Stephanie?! We love our "Good Morning Girls" as we walk in every day, the laughter and daily chats and the honesty from Micheal when he tells you to take a photo again. What would our eisteddfod be without our much loved photographer?! We love you, Michael & Stephanie! Bring on the 2021 Eisteddfods!"

15.01.2022 As promised we are committed to keeping our Dancing community updated with all relevant information about our 2021 Dancing Eisteddfod, to be held at Wrest Point. I know a few people have made enquires about final night, and we felt it was opportune to let you all know, that we are very much guided by entries, we are hoping to have the Eisteddfod completed by Saturday 10th July 2021. We appreciate that a lot of our community have made advance bookings at Wrest Point, and upo...n speaking to our contact there, you have up until 7 days to cancel or change a booking. My advice is to wait until we have completed the schedule, entries are in, and the book is complete, then if need you can go ahead and change or add to your initial booking. The pre bookings have been extremely encouraging, and attached is the link should you require to make a new booking or change an existing booking. As always please feel free to contact us, should you require any further information. https://reservations.travelclick.com/11382

15.01.2022 Good evening everyone. Please see the attached link for our 2021 STDE Schedule on our website. We are really looking forward to seeing everyones routines after a long time between Eisteddfods. Happy dancing preparation everyone. http://stde.org.au/home-page/stde-2021-schedule/

15.01.2022 This week we would like to introduce you to Julene who has a very long history with the dance community in Tasmania as well as being a committee member for many years. Introducing Julene Cooke I have been involved with the Southern Tasmanian Dance Eisteddfod Committee for over thirteen years, and was a helper for a few years prior to that - but have been a part of the dance community since I was 3! I danced with Jill Barron as a child and (in my mind) still have the pe...rfect time step and a sassy step ball change. My next step into the dance world was when I had my daughter - I enrolled her when she was 3, and relished the role of a proud dance mum. The friendships that I have made through dance are still some that I treasure to this day. Many of the children that I used to watch when I was a dance mum are now dance mum’s themselves and I love watching their children the same way I used to watch them. In much the same way, I’ve enjoyed watching the Eisteddfod evolve over the years I’ve been a part of it, from the Theatre Royal to the DEC and now our next step at the Wrest Point Casino. Bring on 2021! #stde #stde2021 See more

14.01.2022 In 2018 we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Southern Tasmanian dancing Eisteddfod. Here's a collection of photo's from that evening, so many happy moments captured with so much to celebrate. Who can you spot in these photos? A lot has changed in 42 years, and things will continue to change and evolve into the future. We are really looking forward to bringing you the 2021 Eisteddfod at our exciting new venue, Wrest Point. Next year is going to be a great year! Credit images to Grace Elizabeth Cruise

14.01.2022 This week we would like to introduce Tina, who has been actively involved with the Tasmanian dancing community for many years. Introducing Tina Hasler I have been involved in the dancing community for the last 37 years, as a dance mum and later when my daughter stopped dancing I realised that I missed being around the dancing environment and I started being a helper at the STDE. I have been a Committee member for the last 7 years and my role on the committee is to organ...ise the helpers. I enjoy getting people involved in behind the scenes atmosphere and look forward to guiding new helpers. We always need lots of help to run our Eisteddfod so please let me know if you have a love of dance and would like to volunteer. My 3 year old granddaughter has just started dancing and I feel the love of dance had continued in our family. This year has been a very different year for the dance community and I look forward to 2021 at Wrest Point Casino being an exciting event. Tina See more

11.01.2022 This week we will be introducing you to Eileen Jackson one of the STDE founding members. We are all very grateful that this committed group got together and created our beloved eisteddfod. Introducing Eileen My name is Eileen Jackson. I have been a committee member for 42 years being one of the founding members. We were a group of mothers along with a few very helpful gentlemen including Sonny Jose OAM who formed a committee and started up the Southern Tasmanian Dancin...g Eisteddfod. I am now a life member and for me this time has been a wonderful chapter in my life. My daughters and granddaughters have danced and I have loved watching all dancers with their great talent over the years with many starting up their own dance schools. In later years I have been watching their children growing into beautiful dancers and now the next generation is taking to the stage. We now have so many wonderful dancing schools. I'm so looking forward to the Eisteddfod next year. See more

08.01.2022 Where did it all start? Southern Tasmanian Dance Eisteddfod was formed in 1978, some 42 years ago! In the first year there were just 2 dance schools , Sonny Jose and Jill Barron . It was held at the Playhouse Theatre in Bathurst Street. Do you know any family members that performed there? How many years have you been performing at our Eisteddfod ? Looking forward to our event in 2021 #stde2021

05.01.2022 On Monday last week some of the STDE committee had the privilege of a tour around Wrest Point, the venue for the 2021 Eisteddfod. The ‘space’ is amazing. Here are a few photos of our walk around #stde2021

03.01.2022 Over the coming weeks, we will be introducing you to our dedicated committee members. To run an event of this calibre a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes, pre and post event and during the competition. We thought it would be nice to share with you with a bit of background information and some insights into the roles that they carry out. Firstly, we would like to introduce our new president, Pippa Robertson. I'm sure you will agree that it has been an interesting tim...e to take on such a huge role. Welcome, Pippa! Hi, my name is Pippa Robertson, I am married with three children, I have 1 grandson, George, and 1 more on the way. I am currently the President of the STDE, I have been in the role for 12 months, prior to this role I was Vice President. I have been a committee member since 2016 and before that a volunteer. It’s been a very different time to be on the committee as we move into unchartered waters, with a new venue and the challenges of COVID. I feel confident that our amazing new venue will be fantastic I’m extremely excited for 2021 and to be involved with our new look eisteddfod. I look forward to seeing you all there. Bring on July 2021!

03.01.2022 We would like to introduce you to Katrina Pailthorpe, the STDE Committee Treasurer. Katrina does a wonderful job managing the finances and keeping us all on track!!!! ********************Introducing Katrina *********************** I have been on the Tasmanian dancing scene for 18 years, in multiple and varied capacities. First and foremost a mother, I originally became involved in the world of dance when my now adult daughters (Caitlin and Amy) were young. My role in ...the past few years has transformed and grown from dance mum to committee member and Treasurer of the Southern Tasmanian Dancing Eisteddfod (STDE) committee. I feel a strong connection to the local dancers and dance industry and have an active interest in the future of dance in Tasmania, and what it can provide to the community. I am excited to share my experience and passion for performing arts and unite in achieving the goal of making the event in 2021 at our new venue Wrest Point, a wonderful success. #stde #stde2021 #dancingintas See more

02.01.2022 Memorable Moments Cosmic Dance Our dancing memories began with our owner Kiera Cronk’s (Cruise) first Eisteddfod with Body Language Dance Studio in 1999 at the Theatre Royal! Kiera was 4 years old in the 7 years and under Jazz Group. Then sharing the stage in 2000 with her sister Grace Cruise in the champion group Showcase 2000, only 3 years old!... A favourite memory of ours is being SO welcomed by ALL studios in 2018 with our FIRST EVER Southern Tasmanian Dancing Eisteddfod as Cosmic Dance! We had very nervous and excited students who had never stepped on stage before and for most, it was their first year of dance! The Eisteddfods is an exciting time for our studio each year, with the opportunity for our novice dancers to perform and share their love of dance on stage! We have had the pleasure of growing up with the Southern Tasmanian Dancing Eisteddfod ourselves and we cannot wait to watch our students grow in the years to come! We are looking forward to the 2021 Eisteddfods and the endless years of memories ahead of us!
