25.01.2022 A Sunday joke to get us through our 3rd lockdown. An Aussie truckie walks into an outback cafe with a full-grown emu behind him. The waitress asks them for their orders. The truckie says, 'A hamburger, chips and a coke,' and turns to the emu, 'What's yours?' 'I'll have the same,' says the emu. A short time later the waitress returns with the order 'That will be $9.40 please,' and he reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact change for payment.... The next day, the man and the emu come again and he says, 'A hamburger, chips and a coke.' The emu says, 'I'll have the same..' Again the truckie reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change. This becomes routine until the two enter again. 'The usual?' asks the waitress. 'No, it's Friday night, so I'll have a steak, baked potato and a salad,' says the man. 'Same,' says the emu. Shortly the waitress brings the order and says, 'That will be $32.62.' Once again the man pulls the exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table. The waitress cannot hold back her curiosity any longer. 'Excuse me, mate, how do you manage to always come up with the exact change in your pocket every time?' 'Well, love' says the truckie, 'a few years ago, I was cleaning out the back shed, and found an old lamp. When I rubbed it, a Genie appeared and offered me two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there.' 'That's brilliant!' says the waitress. 'Most people would ask for a million dollars or something, but you'll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!' 'That's right. Whether it's a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there,' says the man. The waitress asks, 'What's with the bloody emu?' The truckie sighs, pauses, and answers, 'My second wish was for a tall chick with a big arse and long legs, who agrees with everything I say.' See more

20.01.2022 Water safety at the beach Suggestions for reducing the risk of drowning at the beach include: Supervise non swimmers and children at all times. Don’t assume that the beach was safe in the past therefore is safe now. The action of waves, weather and wind can influence depth and rips. Lifesaving patrols only swim at patrolled beaches, between the red & yellow flags, when patrols are operating.... Teach your children or weak swimmers what to do if they get into trouble. Remain calm, float and raise an arm to signal for help from the lifesaver or lifeguard. https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au//water-safety-for-chil See more

18.01.2022 Victoria is back to a Level 4 lockdown. If your children are spending time online, are they safe? Safeguards Online safeguards, parental controls, filters and certain products can help block what your children see online. Some examples are:... - customise your computer accounts to setup for children - restrict downloads, purchasing of games & apps, and set up internet usage time limits - adjust your internet settings to restrict access to inappropriate internet sites - Commercial or free internet filters can alert you (the parent) to contact from strangers on social networks and monitor your child’s online activity - consider your child’s mobile as well (if your child is old enough and responsible enough for a mobile). Settings can restrict of inappropriate content. No single parental control is 100 per cent effective. Some sites can be encrypted in such a way that they are not prohibited so talk to your children about the importance of staying safe online and being aware of the behaviours of themselves and others.

17.01.2022 Enjoying the warm weather around the pool? Around five children aged from birth to four years drown every year in Victoria. Parents can reduce the risk by supervising their children around water at all times, teaching them to swim and taking precautions to reduce the risk of drowning around their home. All parents should ideally take a course in infant or child first aid, including CPR.... https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au//water-safety-for-chil See more

13.01.2022 Today is Thanksgiving Day Thanksgiving Day is an annual national holiday in the United States and Canada celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Americans generally believe that their Thanksgiving is modeled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth. They gather their family around and share a turkey and give thanks for their blessings. As a rule, Australians don't celebrate Thanksgiving Day but I am very thankful for... the hard working doctors and nurses who treat Australians everyday, the CFA volunteers who fight our fires, Victoria Police who keep our streets safe and to all of the volunteers who make a difference to our communities. Let's stay safe and be thankful.

12.01.2022 Open water locations such as beaches, the ocean, rivers, creeks, streams, lakes, and dams accounted for three out of four drowning deaths. A lifejacket should be worn when undertaking boating, fishing, jet skiing and rock fishing. The use of alcohol and other drugs while boating or swimming in unpatrolled beaches, rivers and backyard swimming pools is a major contributor to young people drowning. Avoid alcohol and drugs around water and play it safe.

03.01.2022 An old lady went into a bar in Mt Isa and saw a cowboy with his feet propped up on a table. He had the biggest boots she’d ever seen. The old woman asked the man if it’s true what they say about men with big feet being well endowed. The man grinned and said, ‘Sure is, little lady. Why don’t you come to my place and let me prove it to you?’... The old woman considered she might never get an offer like this again and was curious to find out for herself, so she spent the night with him. The next morning, she handed him a $100 note. Blushing, he said, ‘Well, thank you, I’m really flattered. Nobody has ever paid me for my ‘services’ before!’ ‘Don’t be flattered’ she replied ‘Take the money and buy yourself some boots that fit’ See more
