25.01.2022 | BIG LEAGUE 2 | South Perth Cubs defeated Carine Cats 8-7 thanks to a walk-off single. The game was tied at seven with Souths batting when Cameron Ballantine singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.... Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. South Perth Cubs collected ten hits. Souths scored three runs in the fourth inning on an RBI stolen base by Stephen Norman. South Perth Cubs launched three home runs on the day. Jai Hewitt put one out in the first and fifth innings. Riley Walsh had a long ball in the first inning. Walsh and Hewitt each racked up multiple hits for Souths.

19.01.2022 IL TAKE THE WIN v WILLETTON Congratulations to our IL team who took out the W today against Willetton.... A really solid effort in the field and with the bat saw them pull away early and never look back in the 10-4 win. Our pitchers were the stars of the day, led off by Kyle Benson with Billy Donovan coming in as relief and Ben Searle closing it out. Great team effort boys

15.01.2022 South Perth Cubs BL2 Takes High-Scoring Game From WSL Force, 10-6 Scorekeepers were kept busy today during a high-scoring contest between South Perth Cubs BL2 and WSL Force where South Perth Cubs BL2 prevailed 10-6.... South Perth Cubs BL2 fired up the offense in the first inning, when Cameron Ballantine singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Ballantine was on the hill for South Perth Cubs BL2. The righty surrendered three runs on zero hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Rebecca Torpy led things off on the pitcher's mound for WSL Force. The bulldog went one inning, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out one. Georgia Butler and Caitlin Rooker entered the game as relief, throwing three innings and one inning respectively. South Perth Cubs BL2 tallied ten hits. Jai Hewitt and Ballantine all had multiple hits for South Perth Cubs BL2. Hewitt went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead South Perth Cubs BL2 in hits. South Perth Cubs BL2 tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. Josh Artingstall led the way with two. South Perth Cubs BL2 was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Hewitt had the most chances in the field with six.

13.01.2022 | GREAT WIN @ JL CLUB CHAMPS | South Perth jumped out to an early lead over Kalamunda Rangers and took home a 20-4 victory. Souths scored on an error during Hugo Otobe's at bat and a single by Simon Monson, a walk by Kazuki Mochida, a single by Kirby Gargett, a walk by Jasper Smith, and an error during Blake Peckham's at bat in the first inning.... Smith earned the win for Souths - he went four innings, allowing four runs on three hits, striking out eight and walking one. Souths had seven hits in the game. Peckham and Xavier Short all collected multiple hits. Souths stole 12 bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Monson led the way with three.

06.01.2022 VALE Ron Skeggs. The club was saddened this week to learn that Ron Skeggs had passed away on the 25th of May. For those not familiar with Ron, some club members compiled a fitting tribute below. RON SKEGGS The umpire has called time and game on a much loved Golden Oldie of the South Perth Baseball Club. Ron Skeggs, affectionately known as Skeggsy died peacefully on 25th May.... Ron was introduced to baseball in the late 1940s when club founder Jim Dore took a few bats, balls, bases and gloves to Clydesdale Park, down the road from Rons house, and encouraged the local kids to have a go. He enjoyed the game and joined SPBC as a junior when the club was in its infancy. After his introduction to the game Ron started to listen to American baseball on his shortwave radio. His favourite team was the Chicago Cubs, but he also admired players such as Yogi Berra and Jackie Robinson. In later life he was lucky enough to visit Wrigley Field and watch the Cubs play the Houston Astros. As a 12 year old he would ride his bike down Mill Point Road to Windsor Park to help mark out the diamonds on a Sunday morning. He was part of a junior team that travelled to Kalgoorlie to play an exhibition game in the Goldfields Junior League. Under the leadership of Jim Dore, Ron progressed to A Reserves and then to A League. He played several positions but was usually catcher. He was part of the Southern Districts Cubs, a team made up of SPBC and Vic Park players, in the Night Baseball series including their premiership win in the 1956/57 series. Ron loved a bit of fun and the traditional after game beers were often hosted at his house. He also hosted fundraising events gambling nightshighly illegal but very lucrative. One such event was raided by the police, thankfully with no major consequences. In his final year of baseball Ron became substitute coach for the A grade team in which he played when the appointed coach suffered a stroke at the training session before the first game. The team finished fifth that season not bad for a substitute! He had a break from baseball to complete National Service (nashos) as an 18 year old. Ron retired from baseball at the age of 25 after getting married and starting a family. He continued with cricket and took up sailing and football umpiring. Ron reconnected with SPBC in the mid 1990s and was integral in getting a number of the old boys back to the club. He has been a regular fixture at state league home games, sitting with Alf and Ted, sharing beers, and watching their beloved Cubbies play. They would critique each play and compare it to how things were back in their day. Ron was a wonderful, kind man with a great sense of humour who was loved and will be missed by so many. His memory will live on at South Perth Baseball Club.

Showed us how to be good sports (And secretly made fun of the kid who wore jorts) Always seemed to know every rule Made sure we had plenty of game day fuel Volunteered to be our coach (And the other teams talent sometimes did poach) Threw strikes to us when we played coach pitch Eliminated our throwing hitch Showed us your best pick-off move Taught us how to focus to get in a groove Came with us when we had to travel Kept us together when we wanted to unravel Always wanted us to be number 1 But still made sure the game stayed fun (and bought us ice cream when we hit a home run) You made us who we are today And for that we say HAPPY FATHERS DAY

05.01.2022 | South Perth Cubs SL1 pulled away late in a 4-3 victory against Gosnells | The game was tied at three with South Perth Cubs SL1 batting in the top of the ninth when Jake Bowey singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Gosnells Hawks tied things up at three.... Tyler Paull started the game for Souths. He lasted five innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out four Caleb Goodwin lasted one inning, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out one. Will Sherriff and Bowey entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Bowey recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Souths collected 11 hits on the day. Bowey, Adam Barbarich, Kent Fitzgibbons, Rheyei Watanabe, and Max Wheeler each collected multiple hits. Bowey went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the hits. Souths was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Bowey had the most chances in the field with nine.

04.01.2022 | JUNIOR LEAGUE CLUB CHAMPS | SOUTHS 16 - WANNEROO 1 Souths scored on a single by Xavier Short, a single by Hugo Otobe, and a single by Luke Chapman in the first inning.... Wanneroo struggled to contain the high-powered offense of South Perth giving up 16 runs. South Perth scored five runs in the third inning. The big inning came thanks to a walk by Kayden Sunderland, a single by Otobe, an error on a ball put in play by Short, and a double by Kyle Benson. Simon Monson led things off on the hill for South Perth. The bulldog allowed four hits and one run over three innings, striking out four and walking zero. South Perth tallied 18 hits on the day. Blake Peckham, Short, Otobe, Benson, Chapman, Monson, and Jasper Smith all managed multiple hits for South Perth. Souths also tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. Short led the way with three.

04.01.2022 - Our juniors farewell Kazuki Mochida in style! - Souths 13 - Braves 4 Kazuki and his family have been at the club for 3 years and are returning home to Japan next week. Huge thank you to Kazuki (and dad Kenny) for all that you have done for Souths - keep up the Baseball when you get home champion! ... Today in JL Club Championships, Souths scored five runs in the sixth inning. Matt Ballantine, Kyle Benson, and Dylan Noble all contributed in the big inning with RBIs. Simon Monson got the win, surrendering one run on four hits over five innings, striking out four and walking zero. Kazuki Mochida threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. In his final game, Mochida went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead South Perth. @lulubaseball
