25.01.2022 Great to have weights being moved again at the gym.

25.01.2022 Gutsy effort, after not doing so well on his snatch, Liam had to do a 91kg C&J 6kg more than he has done in the past. 9kg more than he had ever done on platform. managed to Clean it easy and only just missing the Jerk twice. Club is very proud of his efforts. Like to thanks all the club members that took the time out to support him. Troy, Gerard, Bobby, and John, also like to thanks his nana and pop for also coming out and supporting him. A little more intense training and we are sure Liams total is going to explode. Well done Liam we are all proud of you. Still second in Queensland, well done.

23.01.2022 I have always believe sports of any sort has the power to teach life skills at any age. Getting back involved in sport at the age of 19 was a life changing even...t for me. For my daughter Helena who is only 11, she has been exposed to a number of sports in her life already. It has help her develop a number of life skills. Time managerment, self discipline, confidence, good self-worth, a healthy self-esteem. So as a pround dad I would like to announce that Helena who is moving into big class (grade 6) at little school (primary) has been selected as a school Captain next year. So pround. See more

22.01.2022 I know we are not hospitality, but we do call ourselves a club. So to play it safe and move with the times we have implemented QR scan into and out of our premises. Actually it will be easier than making sure everyone signed the book.

22.01.2022 New personal best for Troy today. A MASSIVE 20kg add to his squat. Definitely looks like he has more in the tank.

20.01.2022 Been a very busy last few months of the year. First congratulations to Liam Hanlon for qualifying for the Old Seniors. He then went on to finish Second at the Old Championship and Australian Online Championship. Finally he finished the year off yesterday at North Brisbane Weightlifting Association (Honey Badgers) who kindly invited our club to lift with them, another great day. Then congratulations go to, two of our masters lifters for finishing first in there division at the... Australian Open Competition on the Gold Coast. To both of them just making the platform was a extraordinary. Bobby Johnson working with a shoulder injury which is still given him grief. Still managed a light total yesterday. Gerard Nelson having issues with his hamstring on a regular bases has constantly hindered his progress, then on top of that a stomach issue a week out from the comp. Gerard did not train two week out from the open. Dispute the issue these two had in their lead up, they both manage a very reasonable total and both had a go at new PBs on the day. Then our two little stars, Ava Nelson and Helena Hanlon at the Queensland Weightlifting All Schools Competition. Ava came out equaling who snatch and PBs C&J and Total. Lots of proud storm members there to watch. Not the best day for Helena, but she did total and done herself and the club proud. Great day for her yesterday, having her mum there to watch PBs in Snatch, C&J and Total, great finish to the year for her. Last of all congratulations to Troy, due to a shoulder niggle has done no over head work since his last comp. Troy managed new PBs in Snatch and Total. So yes busy past couple of month, but great outcome for such a small club. Southside Storm Weightlifting Club welcomes any new member. Contact through this page or you can message or call John on 0414838285. See more

18.01.2022 "The weight on the bar does not discriminate, and neither do we. We as a community stand against racism and any other form of discrimination. No matter the colo...ur of your skin, your sexual orientation, your religion, or even your age, weightlifting is hard work. As weightlifters we strive for strength, but when we stand together, we can be stronger in more ways than one. There is no place for discrimination in the weightlifting community! Great work guys #theweightliftingplatform

17.01.2022 Thanks to Michael Noonan for the midyear updated Commonwealth Records. You can access them at https://www.awf.com.au//2182/Commonwealth-Records-2020-Mid

16.01.2022 Everyone love to lift with the big red weights. The young ones are no different, they love to play with big weights as well. You can see this in the attached video. Southside Storm would like to thank Peter Thomsen for donating this set of 2.5kg big red weights to our club.

14.01.2022 We consider ourselves as a very accepting club open to diversity and willing to help all. However our newest member photographed here, who we helped by paying them to attend the gym and giving free membership. They have failed to identify much about themselves, not only that after us giving a hand up they continuously call us all "fat lazy buggers", not sure what to do.

13.01.2022 COVID-19 Safety and Weightlifting While there’s been much talk about the Post-COVID world and a new normal, one thing for sure is that when Weightlifting gyms... come back online it will be the responsibility of all users to make cleanliness and hygiene a high priority. The AWF has drafted COVID Safe Plans that States and Clubs can adopt and implement to help stop the spread of COVID-19. These plans and other resources are now available from State and Territory Weightlifting Associations. Government authorities in the Northern Territory and Western Australia are permitting gyms to reopen within the next week, Queensland and Tasmania are scheduled to follow suit in mid-June and hopefully it won’t be too much longer before all States allow lifters to get back into their regular training environment and start preparing to compete once again. Many State and Club competitions were cancelled this year, so the AWF will relax the usual National Calendar regulations and invite State and Territory Associations to schedule new competitions to replace those that were lost to the coronavirus in 2020. Clubs can request changes to existing competition dates and additions to the calendar via their State or Territory Association.

13.01.2022 Congratulations Ava for her PB of 9kgs. So proud when she look at the video, she was able to analyse herself, pointing out to me what she needs to do to improve. Awesome work Ava.

12.01.2022 After a big day yesterday these two little superstar wanted to train while one dad trained and the other done a little coaching. No stopping them. PB clean pulls all-round, exceeding their body weight, Ava, 34, weighing 31 and Helena, 40, weighing 37. No stopping them as training partners, both started training on Skype two weeks ago to try and get consistency. Thanks to their family in aiding this process.

12.01.2022 A glimpse into how I structure my life/house for optimal performance. I had a great time sitting down with the @ikonick team to chat on The Blank Canvas Podcast. Check out the full episode by clicking the link in my bio. #HWPO #FRA5ER - #hardworkpaysoff #ikonick

11.01.2022 Such awesome news to hear today...the QLD Government officially announcing that gyms etc. can re-open as of midday tomorrow for up to 20 people at a time each s...ession following COVID 19 plans. As a Coach and an Athlete this is the best news ever - after nearly 2 months in lockdown following a modified training plan, utilising own & borrowed equipment on home gym equipment, it will be so good to get back to our normal and see people again. Looking forward to it - you have no idea. Also I have my job back...... See more

11.01.2022 Milestone for one of our youngest lifrer today. Little high, but we gave it to her. Bodyweight back squat 36kg, well done Helena.

09.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all our friends and families. It may be a good time to reflect on how lucky we are compare to the rest of the world, where the suffering is way beyond we could imange. Yes we live in a lucky country, so just remember this and may our Aussie luck continue into 2021. God bless you all.

09.01.2022 There’s light at the end of every tunnel #keepliftingqld

07.01.2022 UPDATE on post below, the people who requested my address to send a graduation card / gift please send to this address: Kaitlyn Spraggon P.O. Box 11 Bribie I...sland post shop Qld 4507 Australia Last Wednesday Kaitlyn received her Year 6 Graduation certificate from Caboolture Special School, the Principal "Elizabeth Devonshire" handed it to me in her office. Kaitlyn my Daughter was intentionally excluded from her Year 6 Graduation ceremony, lunch & disco. While the faculty and staff at Caboolture Special School who have taught her and her classmates everyday, over the years were acknowledged and recognised, Kaitlyn was not. Everyone in the special education department was acknowledged: except Kaitlyn. She was not given the same thought & respect that other students immediately received. There wasn't even the mention of her name, there was no graduation teddies put aside for her, Kaitlyn was excluded from it all. Imagine the heartbreak me as a Mother felt having to explain to Kaitlyn & her siblings why she was excluded from her own Year 6 Graduation. It is inexcusable that Caboolture Special School specifically excluded a special needs student from their own graduation without any thought. How can a school that praises itself for being upstanding & inclusive defend their blatant discrimination towards my special needs child. Their is no excuse, this action violates my Daughter's basic human rights as per the universal declaration of human rights and the United Nations mandate on the rights of the child and the United Nations mandate on the rights of people with a disability. And as if that weren't enough, by strategically leaving out a special needs student, Caboolture Special School Principal when questioned about the Graduation by me stated "They didn't have one because of COVID there was only a small get together in the classrooms." I then look on the school's p & c Facebook page where it reveals in photos that there was a Graduation ceremony, lunch and disco in the school assembly hall with Graduation certificates, graduation teddy bears, graduation cake, graduation disco etc etc & when I sent it onto the Principal with a lovely text message, the Principal then instructs the School P & C to delete the evidence on Facebook. Elizabeth Devonshire didn't follow Protocol. Childhood is fleeting, you can't do it a second time. Individuals with special needs often cannot advocate for themselves and subsequently, get overlooked. I am speaking out for my Daughter Kaitlyn who was cast aside merely due to differences in ability. Silence is Compliance. Graduation is supposed to be a special memory and they ruined it for Kaitlyn, they took away my Daughters right & deprived her of the honour of being recognised alongside her peers. I am still very dismayed & surprised that this discriminatory & uncaring action took place at a special school. A special school is to make kids NOT feel Excluded in life, THEY HAVE FAILED MISERABLY with my Daughter & as a Principal who is meant to be teaching children to have good morals & not lie...... shame on her for being a HYPOCRITE. And finally since the students & faculty didn't get the honor off seeing Kaitlyn graduate at her Year 6 Graduation, at least the internet can. Here is a photo of my Daughter celebrating her Year 6 Graduation at home, just another job me as a Mother has to do because the professionals in Kaitlyn's life once again failed to do their job. Caring for a child without the ability to speak is........ hearing unspoken words. Being my child’s voice, feeling a special bond, seeing everything in a different light. Always understanding the silent things, only love can hear. I am the voice of my sweet, precious special needs child. PLEASE SHARE THIS POST TO SUPPORT KAITLYN & I. I will be pursuing this in a court room. #KaitlynsLifeMatters

01.01.2022 SAVE IT The easiest and fastest way to individually determine the position of your legs at Split Jerk. STEP 1: Draw the line in front your toes (...line of back leg position) STEP 2: Kneel down STEP 3: Draw the line in front of your knees (your start position) STEP 4: Step forward with your dominant leg (your shin should be parallel to your thigh) https://linktr.ee/TOROKHTIY STEP 5: Draw the circle in front of your front foot (position of your front leg) STEP 6: Stand up saving the position of your feet STEP 7-100: a lot of practice from the Starting Position like on the video. If you want to have a good Split Jerk, I recommended between 50-100 reps after each training session! See more

01.01.2022 Well done to all of QLD future Senior female lifters, things are looking bright. GIRL POWER
