Many liv...es have been saved thanks to drowning prevention and water safety initiatives. However, drowning continues to be the leading cause of accidental death of children aged under 5 years. There are strict pool safety laws in place in Queensland. 20.01.2022 Subbies, know who your licensed trade contractor is. Do you contract to a licensed trade contractor, as a sub-trade contractor, to perform building work? Make ...sure youre aware of who has engaged you to perform work at the site. Our Compliance team recommend asking your trade contractor for their licence details and to have them handy when QBCC inspectors visit your work site. If you contract as a sub-contractor and your trade contractor is not licensed for the work, you may be in breach of the law and fines may apply. Licence details can be checked using our free online licence search: http://qbcc.build/2iIbDPw

20.01.2022 Electrical safety is important for everyone, not just sparkys alone. Everyone in the construction industry can be exposed to electrical hazards and need to be a...ware of safe practices. Did you know that Queensland businesses can request a Safety Advocate to visit a workplace, free of charge? A Safety Advocate can attend your event whether its your annual staff BBQ or a regular workplace safety meeting to speak to workers, supervisors and managers about the importance of safety in the workplace. We encourage you to follow the below link and find out more about safety advocates Debbie and Dan Kennedy, who devastatingly lost their son, an apprentice, to electrical shock in a ceiling space. https://qbcc.build/2ZRWs5G #electricalsafety

19.01.2022 RAISING SERVICE DOG AWARENESS! It is so important if you could take the time to read below - 9 THINGS THE SERVICE DOG TEAM WANTS YOU TO KNOW:... 1.) My Service Dog Is Working When you see my dog and I out and about in public, please understand that they are doing vital work for me, even if they dont look like they are working to you. Just like when youre working, my dog just wants (and needs) to be left alone to do their job. Please dont distract my Service Dog from their job by yelling at them, talking to them, using baby talk, touching them, touching their equipment, crowding them or I, whistling at them, barking at them or otherwise doing anything except politely ignoring them. 2.) My Service Dog Is My Lifeline Depending on my disability, my Service Dog may be the only thing standing between me and death. They are my lifeline and mean the world to me. Please dont distract from doing their job or their tasks because my life, health, and peace of mind, rests in their paws. If you distract and my dog isnt able to respond appropriately, my ensuing illness or injury is YOUR fault. Please just ignore them entirely and let my dog focus on their job, which is keeping me safe. 3.) My Medical History Is Private Please dont ask me about my diagnosis, or try to guess the reason I have a Service Dog, or ask me to disclose my private medical history. Even if you cant readily tell what my disability may be, its really none of your business. Making inquiries about personal information is not only uncalled for, its very rude. 4.) I Dont Always Want to Answer Questions My Service Dog has made a huge difference in my life, but I dont always want to stop and talk to every single person who wants to ask me about them. Sometimes, I just want to run a quick errand and go home, just like you. Please keep in mind that almost every person who sees me out in public with my Service Dog wants to ask me about their job, purpose, their name, breed, where they are trained, what they do, how old they are, and a plethora of other questions. Please dont be offended if Im slightly short or dodge your questions. Most of the time, theyre personal questions anyways and shouldnt be asked. Whiskeys Wish provide education awareness to schools and community on raising awareness of Service Dog etiquette as well as raising awareness for PTSD - if you would like to know more please speak with them. 5.) Not All Service Dogs Are The Same Service Dogs come in all shapes, sizes, breeds, colors, coat types and specialities. You cannot identify one by sight alone and it doesnt matter if you think my dog doesnt look like a Service Dog. Unfortunately as well, fake Service Dogs are relatively common, and they do a lot of damage to legitimate teams. Please dont judge my obviously well-trained, well-mannered, quiet, well-groomed, highly responsive Service Dog based on the behavior of some yappy, smelly, aggressive little mongrel someone claimed was a Service Dog. Behavior tells all, and I ask that you not compare me to any other Service Dog handlers or teams you may know or may have met, because not all Service Dogs are the same. 6.) My Service Dog Is Loved Please dont tell me you feel sorry for my Service Dog because they have to work all the time. They are incredibly loved and do in fact enjoy time off so they can just be a dog. They do get treats, they do get to play and sometimes, when off duty, they enjoy getting the zoomies and running around in massive circles! They are very well taken care of and better off than most pet dogs because they are well-adjusted, highly trained and well socialised. Whiskeys Wish Service Dog training program is based on positive training methods to assist the team in not just having fun in learning and training but in creating a well established bond and in specific task training. 7.) My Service Dog Is Medical Equipment My Service Dog is medical equipment, just like a wheelchair, crutches or an oxygen tank. They are medically necessary and anywhere in public medical equipment is allowed, so is my Service Dog. Additionally, please treat them like medical equipment. You wouldnt walk up to someone you didnt know and just randomly start pushing their wheelchair or talk to a little old ladys cane, so please dont touch, talk to, pat or otherwise engage with my dog. 8.) My Service Dog Is Protected Under Law The Assistance animals and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) is federal law and sections specified protects my Service Dogs access rights. Federal law allows my Service Dog and I to go ANYWHERE in public people are allowed to frequent with only certain exceptions such as food preparation areas, morgues, surgical areas. Federal law gives my Service Dog COMPLETE access, and your opinion doesnt matter. The only times my Service Dog could be excluded from any public place is if they are not house trained or is out of control and Im not doing anything about it, and neither of those would EVER be an issue. Whiskeys Wish ensures and tracks all training and treatments to ensure that my dog is compliant and meeting all federal standards required. I have an obligation to them as well as to the public and would not jeopardise the Service Dog movement. 9.) Id Rather Not Have A Service Dog Please dont tell me youd like to have a Service Dog. In order to have a Service Dog, you have to be disabled as defined by federal law. Everytime you say, I wish I had a Service Dog, youre saying, I wish whatever is wrong with you was wrong with me, too! Also, please dont tell me you wish your dog could go everywhere with you. Again, that requires SO MUCH MORE than you think it does, not the least of which is thousands of hours of training and socialisation. Its not easy and while my dog is completely worth it, Id rather not need them as a medical aid.
