24.01.2022 A nice straight forward skillion veranda extension on another beautiful old local church building.
22.01.2022 SOLD !!! If anyone is interested, I have one big Tas Oak slab left over from a huge mill log. If it doesn't sell this week it goes into the container to season for the next 2 years. 4.6m long, 700mm to 1200mm x 65mm thick $250.00
21.01.2022 Super stoked to be gifted this awesome custom piece from the local artisan blacksmith. Hand forged, designed and crafted by the talented and very generous Alex Norton down at Valhalla Ironworks. An awesome example of why looking after your local businesses will always pay off. Check him out for some awesome knives, forged jewellery, or just tune in to watch him beat the snot out of some hot iron! https://www.facebook.com/valhallaironworksAU/ Valhalla Ironworks
20.01.2022 Possibly one of the best business transactions so far. :) Bacon for sawdust!! Just to be clear, Bacon should always be an acceptable form of currency. Check these guys out, great local people, with great local produce.... https://www.facebook.com/TamarArtisan/ Tamar Artisan Smallgoods
16.01.2022 So many privately owned residential church buildings here in Tassie, and I feel very lucky to have worked on a few of the local ones. Not a lot more than a tidy up and a refit and a few structural repairs, but it makes all the difference.
16.01.2022 Almost done on a Blackwood, traditionally framed mailbox post. Sustainable timber at it's best. The blackwood was harvested, milled and manufactured from a dying tree on our property here in Rosevale, and the Walnut knee brace, from the Walnut orchard just up the road from a dropped branch.
14.01.2022 I feel a little bit honoured to have made it into the new Lucas Mill calendar this year. Obviously though it has nothing to do with me or my poor photography. I'm just lucky to have had the opportunity to open up and display another stunning example of some beautiful Tasmanian Blackwood.
13.01.2022 An operaters view, slabbing a little Blackwood. If I set it up right and let gravity do most of the work, I can just sit back and make videos!
11.01.2022 Tooling up up for some future traditional timber framing projects. To compliment the beautiful framing chisel handmade by Alex at Valhalla Ironworks, I built a simple wooden carpenters mallet. Utilizing mill waste Tas Oak with some bonus fiddleback grain for a stunning handle and some local blackwood for the head. Looking forward to making a pile of woodchips without all the noise of the mill. :)
10.01.2022 As beautiful as the winters are here down at the mill, I'm pretty happy spring is here. A few pics from a frosty morning at the mill.
10.01.2022 A simple tidy and straighten up of a well worn ramped entry. Swapped out the old weathered pine decking, and sagging handrail for some clean looking Merbau. Will get some oil on after the rain has left us for a few days.
09.01.2022 Another little C19 - stay at home job. Rot had really gotten the better of this old entry door and was literally falling apart and sagging from it's hinges. Replaced some timber, squared up the frame, replaced all glazing beads and installed almost 30 timber dowels to strengthen the old loose tenon joints.
07.01.2022 I really love how solid Tasmanian Oak timber comes alive with a natural oil finish. This 'Barnyard' mix of flooring from Woodley & Co. has a perfect mix of skip dressed and natural character boards. Carefully sanded to retain and highlight the beautiful imperfections.
05.01.2022 !!!!!SOLD PENDING PAYMENT!!!!! 04.01.2022 Letter box street library. Something a little different, and a great job a few weeks back while getting my head around all these new C19 restrictions. I took this job on for a lovely repeat client of mine while having a bit of home isolation, alongside helping out with the boys online schooling. A great little stress relieving job, well for the most of it at least
01.01.2022 Custom Barn Door Slider Something a little different for me a few weeks back, and a fun job for a rainy winters day. Came together nicely and looks great installed.
