25.01.2022 Pauline, one of our lovely SPARCS' members, celebrated a significant birthday during the Easter weekend. Pauline's birthday celebrations began a couple of weeks' ago with morning tea at Hazel McDougall House. Congratulations & Happy Birthday, Pauline.

24.01.2022 Goodbye Mission Brown. Hello Heritage Cream! Facelift for a tired old lady - Hazel McDougall House exterior which will be painted Heritage Red & Heritage Cream and the Pottery, Toilets, Storeroom, wooden Pergola and Screens, Heritage Cream!... All painting, weather permitting, finished within three weeks.

24.01.2022 Thank you to my lovely SPARCS' friends for your support, care and love over the last few weeks of my beloved brother, Kev's, life. The beautiful orchid was such an unexpected surprise from you all and will be a constant reminder of Kev and the wonderful times we had together.

24.01.2022 Calling ALL SPARCS' Members Annual General Meeting Tuesday, 11th June at Hazel McDougall House, Como. (Please note Tuesday, not Wednesday as previous AGM's in the hope more members will attend!) Please come at 12.30pm to share Soup & a Roll with us before meeting commences at 1.15pm which of course, includes Election of new Committee members. ... Please consider nomination for the committee, especially for the position of Treasurer. (Bruce Langford, President Merrilyn's husband, has been acting in this position because no SPARCS' member put their hand up last year - surely there is someone amongst us who could help this year?) After meeting we have Guest Speakers from South Perth Historical Society who will talk about our interesting local history. A delicious Afternoon Tea supplied by the pre-election committee will be served at the conclusion of the talk. Hope to see many, many of our members supporting this event.

24.01.2022 Look what Margaret Lofthouse has been sewing inbetween helping & teaching other members from the Patchwork Group - covering fabric Coles & Woolworths' bags with gorgeous patchwork offcuts. These bags are donated to Share the Dignity to pack full of Sanitary items, toiletries and sometimes a luxury item or two and given to impoverished, often homeless women & girls or victims of domestic violence. Thank you Margaret. We have a Share the Dignity collection box inside Hazel McDougall House should you wish to donate sanitary items this month.

24.01.2022 SPARCS' members - you have been so incredibly generous in donating to Share the Dignity's April Drive and Tuesday 30th April is last call for tampons, sanitary and incontinency pads to be distributed to our homeless and in need women & girls. I will collect the collection bin Wednesday afternoon so if you have any last minute donations, please drop them off before then. Every. Single. Packet. helps. Thank you so much

24.01.2022 Friendship Day, Friday 22 November and finally we were blessed with perfect weather for the occasion. The committee members provided a delicious spread for our members' afternoon tea which was served indoors, rather than outside as we had done in the past. Thank you to the ladies who stayed behind to wash & dry dishes, clean up and put away tables & chairs. Many hands make light work! Thank you to all those who contributed to the Christmas Sale table and the Raffles. The lucky winners of the basket hampers were delighted with their prizes. Thank you to the SPARCS' members who attended and we hope you enjoyed our day of friendship.

23.01.2022 Result of the generous donations from SPARCS members I picked up from the House Tuesday - 6 handbags packed to the brim! "A hug in a handbag" for six women, all of whom, desperately need and deserve a little happiness in their lives. I am so proud to belong to such a compassionate, supportive group of women in SPARCS. Thank you all.

20.01.2022 Goodbye to the old and hello to the brand new kiln in the Pottery. Also a new door installed allowing quick and easy egress should the potters need it! There will soon be more drying shelving and even the possibility of lessons in the New Year bringing more members to the Pottery. Stay posted!

WET AREA max 2 persons MORRISH max 4 persons BARNETT max 5 persons If you are experiencing symptoms of cold/flu, have a fever or feeling generally unwell, we ask you not to enter house. 17.01.2022 A few of the Friday Morning Watercolour Group braved the heat but were rewarded by the cool, quiet atmosphere at McDougall House.

17.01.2022 Another highly successful Meet & Greet, Thursday 1st August by Patchwork, Embroidery & Art Groups, the last for 2019. Thank you to the Groups who have hosted this year and for the visitors who attended, many travelling from afar, to support, as it wasn't their usual day to be in, or around, Hazel McDougall House. Meet & Greets will continue next year and if your Group didn't participate this year, please consider 2020. It's been a great way to meet other SPARCS' members and learn a little of their craft.

14.01.2022 What a lovely afternoon the Machine Knitters provided their guests for their Meet & Greet at Hazel McDougall House yesterday. Machine Knitting Guru, Tony, impressed us all with his beautiful, fine, glamour garments and his knowledge. Following Tony's introductory talk, each of the ladies spoke about and displayed their own lovely garments, some of which were over 30 years old and looking brand new, such is the almost indestructible nature of machine knitted garments using quality yarns! I found myself engrossed in conversation with the Machine Knitters, I almost missed out on the lovely afternoon tea provided! Thank you Shirley & Denise for embracing the idea of having other SPARCS groups visit, meet your members and learn a little of your craft. Very enjoyable afternoon.

13.01.2022 Thank you to Penny V and Jill B for making arrangements for SPARCS' Defibrillator to be installed externally and available to the General Public in case of an emergency. If a defibrillator is needed, a quick call to 000 will alert St Johns to send an ambulance to the site and the location and password to access the defibrillator will be advised. Our debrillator is currently located on the back patio behind the House although we hope to have it relocated towards the front o...f the house soon. 07.01.2022 Oh My Goodness, I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of donations, in and around the Share the Dignity Collection bin in Hazel McDougall House today! The generosity of the SPARCS' members fills me with awe and gratitude. Thank you all so very, very much. I tried to arrange a lovely display of the donated items to photograph but there was just so much, I resorted to piling up! There was also one lovely handbag filled to the brim with the necessities and some "luxury" items too. Tonight I will begin packing the donated empty bags.

05.01.2022 SPARCS - should really be an acronym for its members who are Special People Always Really Caring and Supportive! As well as the huge support our members contribute towards Share the Dignity throughout the year, there is still room in their hearts and shopping baskets to donate to food hampers for the under privileged families of students attending Midvale Primary School.... Kate Wood from Mosaics @ the Cowshed has set up Collection baskets in Hazel McDougall House and the Cowshed for your generous donations. Non-perishables and nothing beyond use by date please. Let's bring some happiness into these families lives and give them full tummies for Christmas 2019.
