13.01.2022 Recently we have had a dinosaurs figurine that has made its way into the babies yard. Rihari and some of our other baby friends have taken a particular interest it in so we decided to bring out some more dinosaur figurines and set up an area for them. Rihari first began by sitting himself down at the table observing and exploring all the different dinosaurs as he compared them to one another. Rihari then began sharing what he had by holding the dinosaurs up and yelling roar!... Scary dinosaur! I replied to which Rihari began stomping the dinosaur on the table. Rihari then moved over to the muddy sand we had created to further extend his dinosaur play. Rihari enjoyed exploring the texture of the wet sand as he used his hands to scoop it up and place it on his dinosaur. Rihari continued to use the dinosaurs to explore the texture of the sand as he buried them within. I loved watching Rihari express his own understanding around dinosaurs as he demonstrated how dinosaur act and make noises through his play. Rihari continues to develop his senses as he eagerly explore new textures through manipulating and investigating. To further Rihari’s interests around dinosaurs we will look at other things such as dinosaurs eggs that he can also manipulate and explore.

12.01.2022 Today at the service the Kindy children enjoyed a Waste Management Incursion. The children were educated all about the benefits of recycling and what products we can recycle and what product we cant recycle that then go into landfill. The children were very excited about the hands on experience of placing the rubbish into the two chosen bins. The most exciting part of all was the Worm Farm Another easy and beneficial way of recycling all those unwanted food scraps within our kitchens.

11.01.2022 Just look at those smiles, doesn't it just melt your hearts Allowing children to have unstructured, uninterrupted time with one and other provides them with the opportunities to build upon relationships within the room. Not only are these two doing just that but they are also engaging in language skills and object recognition as they view the pictures on each page of the books together.

11.01.2022 Please join me in Congratulating Lily on the completion of her Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care Lily is a fine asset to our Sparrow team, displaying dedication to all that she does each and everyday. 10.01.2022 Our Toddler children engaged in a mat session today all about Sun Safety! The importance in protecting ourselves from the powerful rays of the Sun using methods such as applying sunscreen, wearing a wide brimmed hat & a T-shirt that has sleeves.

09.01.2022 Imaginative play at its finest here in the Kindy room with these boistress boys. Experimenting the power of language through re enactment as well as developing the core skills for social and emotional roles of life.

09.01.2022 Our Friend Wolf found a millipede on the ground in the Toddlers Yard, so he carefully picked it up to show his friends & educator Alanna. Wolf held the millipede carefully as he asked what it was, Alanna explained that it was millipede as she pointed out it’s hundreds of legs, where is it’s mummy? asked Wolf. Wolf & Alanna then had a conversation about where the millipedes mum might be, Wolf came up with the idea that she might be in the garden & that we should put the millipede in the garden to find her. Wolf proceeded to place the millipede in the garden carefully before watching it crawl off. It was so great to watch Wolf interact with the Millipede with such care as he showed respect for the living things in the world around him

07.01.2022 Healthy Food Discussion Jacinta brought out a basket of food from the home corner inside and invited the toddlers to sit down for a healthy food discussion. Jacinta explained that if we eat fruits and vegetables it helps us to grow big and strong. Jacinta then held up some of the food items and asked the toddlers if they recognised what the food item was called. The toddlers were able to communicate that they could see a slice of watermelon, a carrot , a banana, a piece... of broccoli and a pear.Jacinta then asked the toddlers if they knew if the food items were either a fruit or a vegetable. Wolf held up the pear and verbalised this is a fruit. Jacinta then explained that the banana and watermelon were also fruits and that the carrot and broccoli were vegetables. The children showed an interest in pretending to eat the different healthy foods that they had found. The toddlers built on their language skills as they communicated the names of the fruits and vegetables that were in the basket.

07.01.2022 Yesterday the Kindy children were delighted to have the Constable Care program pay them a visit. During the incursion the children discussed their personal safety, with specific reference to protective behaviors. Through the use of puppets, storytelling and singing, the children interacted with Constable care and learned about how/if something doesn’t feel right how there body might tell them through some signs and symptoms including feeling worried or having a sick feeling in there tummy. We next discussed who we should tell if we think something is not right. We referred to this as our helping hand the children discussed what people they could talk to which included the police, family, teachers or an adult they trust.

02.01.2022 Introducing for the month of November We were lucky enough to have Amy join our team back in July! Amy brought with her a wealth of knowledge after being in the Early Education Sector in various roles for many years. Amy has formed great relationships with educators, children & families in the past 5 months & has adjusted her approach to learning to meet our Sparrow Philosophy. ... The Reggio Approach to Learning was something Amy wasn’t familiar with after spending the last few years at an OSCH service with school aged children, but Amy has taken on the challenge & engages in research, professional development & support from her fellow educators to build her understanding! Amy is a great asset to our Kindy room & our service, always putting 100% into what she is focusing on. Thankyou for all your hard work Amy

02.01.2022 It started with a Mortar & Pestle The children engaged in an experience creating 'Natural Inks' to paint with. They collected herbs & plant matter from our gardens & also some fresh fruits from the kitchen. They crushed these up using the mortar & pestle & were able to identify which items contained more liquid than others & which ones showed the brightest colours. The children then used paint brushes to spread the ink onto white paper. ... From this experience educators planned another to further children senses. The sense of smell in particular. When you pick herb's from the garden you can smell them right? But does this smell become stronger when you hammer these & start to break them down One of the children stated that the Parsley didn't really have a smell at first, but once she started to crush it up she became excited "it smells, it smells now" she said. The children discovered that flower petals actually hold alot of water & this water can be coloured, using it to stain the wood block. After the experience, the children were offered fresh herbs from the garden to try, not everyone was a fan & mum might still have to camouflage these into dinner, but it was great to see everyone eager to try something they were not familiar with
