25.01.2022 YEAR IN REVIEW - WEEK 7, TERM 4 2020 // 2020 was a year that held so much promise yet plans and aspirations for the year felt like they were put on hold or blindsided. It has been a difficult year which has brought about rapid change. This week we reflect on what we have learnt in 2020. - Education is done best face to face, in personal relationship with others. - Education is not just about learning and equipping our children for the future, but it also to provide an envir...onment and a community to belong. - Education is not about information but formation this forming of character grows most in times of adversity. - We have also learnt a new gratitude and appreciation of others, our families and the country we live in. Next year we will reimagine the possibilities for the future, and embrace what we have learnt this year, for it is true that our world is no longer the same. We wish you all a safe holiday and a wonderful Christmas as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. https://youtu.be/xvW3_mSZT_c
23.01.2022 DRAWING COMPETITION SUCCESS // Congratulations to Luke Ward for his winning drawing in the Atticus Van Tasticus competition. He has won a mural by Stephen Michael King plus a visit from Andrew Daddo! Luke's fantastic image was chosen by illustrator Stephen Michael King and author Andrew Daddo themselves. They loved the whimsical and joyous nature of the drawing and Andrew said, ‘It seems to have a few extra stories hidden in the detail.’ Penguin Random House especially loved ...the Puffin walking the plank! There were over 500 entries to choose from and some really fierce competition. Stephen will be onsite at the school for one full week to work on the mural and Andrew Daddo will visit to present one of his famously funny talks to the students and share the love of reading great stories. We are so excited! Penguin Books Australia
23.01.2022 YEAR 11 CAMP // Our Year 11 students have been enjoying a few days away from the classroom. 21.01.2022 SHAPE NOMINATION // Congratulations to Molly Torr who has been nominated for SHAPE. Molly designed a storybook aimed at children to give a broader awareness of global issues affecting how we look after the planet. She spent many hours researching the best means of presenting of her ideas through language and graphics. Using her artistic skill in hand painted illustrations and exploring language patterns to develop rhyming paragraphs to carry her message, she saw the value of ...a spared experience while reading a storybook as a means of making a difference in how children could look after their planet. Molly has been recognised for the quality of her Portfolio, through methodical documentation of her design process from concept to the final product, researching, experimenting and evaluating to validate her decision making process. ‘Help Percy make a Difference’ is a prototype to make children and adults consider the global issues that feed into global warming. Percy, a recognised species in many countries and the character that seemed to resonate with students appearing in many children’s movies. See more
20.01.2022 SCHOOL TV - 10 TIPS FOR RAISING RESILIENT KIDS // While adulthood is filled with serious responsibilities, childhood isn’t exactly stress-free. Kids take tests, learn new information, change schools, change neighbourhoods, get sick, get braces, encounter bullies, make new friends and occasionally get hurt by those friends. What helps kids in navigating these kinds of challenges is resilience. Resilient kids are problem solvers. They face unfamiliar or tough situations and strive to find good solutions. https://port-stephens-spcc.nsw.schooltv.me//10-tips-raisin

20.01.2022 WEEK IN REVIEW - WEEK 5, TERM 4 2020 // NAIDOC WEEK This week is NAIDOC Week and we wish to acknowledge the custodians of this land, the Worimi people and their Elders past and present. We respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this region. NAIDOC Week is normally in July, it is a very important event on our nations calendar, for there is still much work to be done in respecting the voice of indigenous Australians and demonstrating a c...ommitment to listen and find new ways to walk together as one. NAIDOC is about celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is a celebration not only for Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. https://youtu.be/ItSS1HAqjO8

16.01.2022 YEAR 8 SERVICE DAY // Year 8 had such an excellent Service Day at Birubi Beach yesterday. Mr McKinnon had arranged for the class and accompanying teachers to catch the red 4wd busses 7kms down the beach to a spot on the dunes where they met with Aunty Sue, an Aboriginal elder of our local area, who is also a National Park Ranger. She welcomed us and educated us on her country and traditions. We were there to learn from her and clean up the beach. She allowed us access to thei...r sites including the middens in the dunes to clean them up. Aunty Sue and her rangers worked alongside us. This was a real privilege. The students worked so diligently without complaining, walking 7kms back up the beach, filling the trailer full of rubbish even a car bonnet! as they went. It was a hot day, so a pizza lunch and well-deserved swim were such an awesome reward for the hard work the students put in. Much fun was had swimming and cooling of in the beautiful surf. Year 8 are such a lovely group of students. They represented our school so well, making us all so proud of them. They certainly have bright futures ahead. Even though it was hard work, it was a refreshing and inspiring day. An amazing way to end such a busy term. We are blessed to be living where we are, in the school we are in, surrounded by such beautiful places and people. God is good. So so good to us. Huge thanks to Mr McKinnon for organising such a wonderful day!
16.01.2022 WEEK IN REVEIW - WEEK 6, TERM 4 2020 // The Upside-Down Christmas Tree It has been a topsy turvy year for so many people and so this year we want to turn the Christmas tree upside down to support those in the community who have had a rough year and need a helping hand and a little bit of hope. Instead of giving gifts to our teachers we are going to give a donation towards ‘Hampers of Hope’. A single hamper costs $20 and we are asking families to donate their usual present sp...ending to see how many hampers we can give. Join us in the spirit of generosity! https://youtu.be/9eLrcwni81E
