22.01.2022 Special Olympics Rockhampton has hosted a Dual Sport Weekend just a few months after being 'born'! 3on3 basketball held at Rockhampton PCYC on Saturday 24th November 2018 then ten pin bowling on Sunday 25th November 2018. There were 3 basketball divisions and there was also a juniors basketball division with athlete leader, Shane, on the court to assist. Athlete leader, Shane, also assisted athlete Sammy in Div C if you wondered what he is doing! Athletes travelled from Mac...kay and Gladstone to support Rocky as the athletes love the thrill of competition as well as the social aspect of catching up with friends in other cities. The focus was on participation and friendship and not on the W or the L. A massive thank you to Greg and Rockhampton PCYC on providing their venue for the Inaugural 3on3 basketball Come and Try and we were relieved to have that wonderful breeze blowing through the louvres. Thanks to Coach Sophie for arranging the Gorman's Doubles and Special Olympics athletes outnumbered others in the mainstream event. Congratulations to Dylan and Keanu in taking out first place and then Mackay's John and Thomas scored second! Everyone agreed that it was sensational preparation for future comps. Watch this space for another Gorman's Doubles in 2019 and the next 3on3 basketball Come and Try will be held at Cap Coast PCYC on Sunday 31st March 2019. This is an opportunity to showcase YOUR talents in a regional competition; each week you train hard and Special Olympics gives you the pathway to worthwhile competition. Thanks to our sponsors, Global Product Search and Pancake Bliss, event registration is free, spectators are free and EVERY athlete receives a trophy at the Closing Ceremony.

19.01.2022 23 athletes from regional clubs converged to have a fun filled, and totally exhausting, afternoon of basketball! 3 games of 3on3 with a full court game to finish it off. All the athletes showcased their abilities and are looking forward to the upcoming Special Olympics Mackay Fire Multi Sport competition (table tennis, equestrian, basketball, bocce, ten pin bowling) over the May Day long weekend. Thank you to the Cap Coast PCYC for a fantastic venue! We are still actively seeking someone that just loves basketball and wants to spread the joy of sport!

Remember that all athletes should be training locally in their chosen sports and Special Olympics will then provide the pathway to State Titles, Nationals and World Games.
