If you are sitting for long periods of time during the day and then coming to the gym to do a workout involving compound lifts (squats& deadlifts), more often than not the glutes are weak/ harder to active in the compound movement. To avoid poor squat/ Deadlift form it is important you warm up your muscles properly! terry this warm up exercise and let us know what you think! Here are some things to keep in mind during your w...arm ups: .1. Two/three sets for warm up exercises for proper muscle engagement .2. Lower weight than youre heavy lifts, focus on a slow concentric phases& a pause at the top of the movement. .3. Practice the breathing (in on the down phase& out on the up phase) that youll be using in the compound lifts youll be doing that day. This helps prepare the body for when you are lifting heavier weight. . .TIPS FOR THIS EXERCISE: banded straight leg KB Deadlift. .1. Breathing in, keeping core tight as you slowly go down. Breathe out as you lift, driving the glutes forward at the top. .2.keep weight in your heels to ensure dominance in hamstrings/glutes .3. Keep core engage for entire exercise .4. 15.01.2022 Hey Guys!! There are lots of ways to warm up for squats and deadlifts. Some mirror the movement closely, others have nothing got to do with the movement at all. GOAL: The goal of this warm up is to ensure that the appropriate muscles on each side are activated and engaged equally. . Some people can have either tighter or weaker muscles on one side compared to the other. Using unilateral movements to warm up can help with ensuring each side is activated appropriately.... . When we place the skeletal system in the correct position we wont need someone shouting squeeze in order to attain the contraction we seek. We will automatically activate each muscle we need. If you dont have someone to push against your knee you can use a resistance band. Wrap the band around the leg just above the knee and attach it to something secure like a squat rack. The idea is to force the knee outward. As we fight against it we will start to activate our adductors. As we drive our hip outward it will start to activate the glute. 13.01.2022 What’s wrong with the long term binge/restrict routine? Alright. We all have thought about how nice it would be to have killer abs, & we know to get there we need to be in a calorie deficit to loose weight. The question is what happens when you stop loosing weight from the deficit your in? At this point, you are technically no longer in a deficit... .So let’s say you need 2500cal a day to maintain body weight and you drop down to 2000calories + exercise with some chea...t meals on the weekend. This will work for a certain amount of time, until it doesn’t. Here’s why: 1. When we stay in deficit for an unending amount of time we are letting something called adaptive thermogenesis kick in which is a metabolic adaptation. This happens as a survival mechanism slowing down your calorie expenditure. So basically, you burn less calories each day and as a consequence your body moves less as a form as self preservation. Also when we sit at such a long amount of calories we begin an unhealthy relationship with food. 2. Your body doesn’t care if you want to be shredded with a killer six pack, all it cares about is keeping a healthy amount of body fat as this is your stored energy. So dropping calories lower and lower to ‘earn that big cheat weekend’ is not the answer. 3. The longer we diet, the more efficient our metabolism becomes, which is not a good thing. When this happens it means our bodies have a poor ability to run through the calories we are consuming to then tap into our stored energy(fat). 4. When we maintain a low/ long lasting deficit for 5 days per week, then binge all weekend our bodies are no longer able to break down such highly processed food in such a large intake. We are already struggling to run properly off our deficit, now your adding large amounts of processed sugar and fats? Bad idea. Binge& restrict is not the answer to fat loss. Fat loss is all about calories in vs. Calories out. This means a healthy. Sustainable. 11.01.2022 1. Blue light blocking glasses. Aka blue blockers. These glasses help filter blue light which is quite prominent on phones, laptops, tablets and TVs. Blue light releases cortisol (stress hormone) and inhibits the release of melatonin (hormone that regulates sleep-wake cycles). If you simply cant cut out screens before bed, these are a must. Dark amber and red lenses block out the highest percentages of harmful light. Clear to yellow lenses cut out much less. 2. Make your b...edroom as dark as you can. Try to completely shut out light. Black out blinds are the way to go for this. Also cover your phone and get rid of laptops and tablets. If you have a tv in your room, plug it out. That tiny standby light can even affect your sleep. If your phone charger has a light, charge it outside and get an alarm clock. 3. Keep it cool! keeping your room cool (not cold) (15-20 degrees Celsius) this can help with falling asleep faster and ensuring we stay in REM sleep for as long as possible as temperatures outside of this range have been shown to disrupt the REM stage. We could sleep for 8 hours but spend very little time in REM sleep, causing us to still feel tired and not well rested. 4. Caffeine cut off. Caffeine has a half life of around 5 hours. Meaning if you have 100mg of caffeine at 4pm you will still have 50mg of caffeine in your system at 9pm. If you are sensitive to caffeine, effects may persist for longer. A lot of people stick to a cut off point of at least 8 hours before bedtime. 5. Bed time routine. Going to bed at a similar time every night and waking at a similar time every morning. If you can, cut out screens and artificial light at least 30 mins before bed. Dont listen to/ watch anything that will raise your heart rate or emotionally trigger you just before bed. Some easy listening, reading fiction or meditation is a great way to get ready for sleep. 08.01.2022 Nice little hip opener here. As you can see with the first picture on the left my range of motion is pretty poor after spending a day sitting at the desk in our gym office. With this exercise I am getting a nice stretch on my hamstring, glute and tensor fascia latae.... Without holding the stretch in any one place for an extended period of time or pulling with a lot of force I start to improve on the range of motion by flossing in and out between the different positions. One big problem with a lack of mobility in this position is that the psoas muscle will over extend pulling the spine and pelvis forward leading to a lot of tension and sometimes pain in the lower back. This may also lead to an anterior pelvic tilt which will put pressure on your lower back and tighten your hip flexors even without adding force like a barbell on your back. We can release the psoas with a lacrosse ball or something similar but we could merely be putting a band aid on the problem without getting to its source. Dont get me wrong releasing your psoas can feel great. Its also great to not have to. Tonnes of ways to open up the hips. We will cover a few more. This is just one for now. As always there are more ways than one to skin a cat!

When we stay in deficit for an unending amount of time we are letting something called adaptive thermogenesis kick in which is a metabolic adaptation. This happens as a survival mechanism slowing down your calorie expenditure. So basically, you burn less calories each day and as a consequence your body moves less as a form as self preservation. Also when we sit at such a long amount of calories we begin an unhealthy relationship with food. 2. Your body doesnt care if you want to be shredded with a killer six pack, all it cares about is keeping a healthy amount of body fat as this is your stored energy. So dropping calories lower and lower to earn that big cheat weekend is not the answer. 3. The longer we diet, the more efficient our metabolism becomes, which is not a good thing. When this happens it means our bodies have a poor ability to run through the calories we are consuming to then tap into our stored energy(fat). 4. When we maintain a low/ long lasting deficit for 5 days per week, then binge all weekend our bodies are no longer able to break down such highly processed food in such a large intake. We are already struggling to run properly off our deficit, now your adding large amounts of processed sugar and fats? Bad idea. Binge& restrict is not the answer to fat loss. Fat loss is all about calories in vs. Calories out. This means a healthy. Sustainable.
