21.01.2022 It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Professor Margot Prior AO. Margot's contribution to the autistic community in Australia is immeasurable. Chris & Gloria had the privilege & delight of working with Margot over the years, especially in Vietnam with her pioneering autism work there. As Patron of Amaze she was tireless. Her passion and dedication were legendary. She was inspirational. She will be so fondly remembered and so sadly missed by the autism community. Vale Margot.

09.01.2022 BOOK REVIEW: Another brilliant story from the wonderful Mo Willems , and a perfect addition to your social-emotional learning library. That Is Not A Good Idea hooks you in from the first page. It looks deceptively simple, as we go for a walk with the fox and the duck . ... But the reader does so with fear and trepidation, for we are ‘mind readers’, and we know the fox’s dastardly intentions he has plans to make the duck his dinner! Even the little ducklings cry out a warning to their unsuspecting mother. But alas, the duck does not heed their warnings. She does not have our super mind reading powers, and we are SO nervous for her. But, of course, the genius of the author, Mo Willems, strikes again! Who is the dinner, and who are the little ducklings really warning? Our kids absolutely love this book, it is very funny and full of surprises. A perfect book for social emotional learning with: perspective taking, thinking about others’ thoughts & intentions, heightened emotions, plans & ideas, expected & unexpected, and of course, ‘changing your thinking’. Be warned, you might not want to have any soup for a while! https://www.instagram.com/p/CEjIuGChQ8e/

04.01.2022 The Spectrum therapists are always on the lookout for activities that will engage & entice communication in our kiddos. Zoe is loving using her ‘mini objects’, and the kids think they’re great! Hiding objects in the small black bag encourages children to ask questions, use spatial concepts (what’s in the bag), use descriptive language, and expand vocabulary. Zoe can’t wait for her kiddos to see her mini object collection now that we’re back for some in person sessions! How do you use your ‘mini objects’?

01.01.2022 Who Sank The Boat? This classic children’s book by the wonderful children’s author, Pamela Allen, is a beautiful book for little ones and a perfect story for early social emotional learning. As the animals get ready to go for a row in the boat, there are so many things to guess and predict, emotions to talk about, and problems to think about and try to solve. Younger children love repetition in stories, they love the rhyming, they love the anticipation, suspense, and the s...urprise What is their plan for the day? Where are the animals going? How do they feel? What will they do next? Will someone fall out? So much we can imagine, guess, and discuss. Some of the animals are graceful, others are tentative as they get into the boat, while others just launch right on in there! Such a fun story and perfect to dramatise and act out together. Who Sank The Boat? - continues to engage and delight our young ones. Loads of fun and social learning to be had!
