25.01.2022 Reminders for your back pocket. Sketchnote via @woodard_julie

24.01.2022 Interesting article that says if you have recurrent ear infections, even if you meet the hearing criteria for speech, your auditory processing can still be affected.

23.01.2022 Surprisingly, the reading research reveals even for irregular words, such as yacht, a reader still uses some phoneme awareness, letter sound knowledge and phono...logical long-term memory in order to retrieve the word. In order to develop orthographic mapping it makes sense to study the parts of the words that are regular whilst noting any difficult parts and linking these to the pronunciation of the word. This is in keeping with the research on word recognition (Ehri, 2005; Frost, 1998; Katz & Frost,2001; Share, 1995; Van Orden & Kloos, 2005). 21.01.2022 Dyslexic children, as well as dyslexic adults, are often the quintessential backdoor learnerslooking for effective work-arounds to solve problems, and ofte...n exhibiting high levels of creativity in doing so. For dyslexics, the front door might be closed, but the backdoor is WIDE open! They may not move from A to B to C as per the traditional learning path, but they somehow find a way.even if it means having to skip B entirely, circle F twice, and then work they way back around to C! Traveling these unconventional paths allows them to observe more, think differently, be creative and build tenacity. The key to helping dyslexic learners struggling to read is to provide them with an easily accessible backdoor approach, so as to accelerate access to the phonics skills needed to read and write from the earliest possible grade levels. The answers lie in the brain science. 17.01.2022 Speech Pathology changes as of 23.03.20 Good Afternoon At this stage I am trying not to close and still provide services. All school visits from 24.03.20 are cancelled until further notice. For those families wishing to continue with in clinic or telehealth options, please contact me. ... In clinic sessions will still go ahead with the following changes: -There are currently no facilities to wait in the waiting room so please come as close to your session as possible. -Only one family member will be allowed to attend per client (for those under 12 years of age). They will be required to sit in on the session with their family member at all times. -The front door will remain locked and you will be let in at the time of your session. - All clients and family members are required to use hand sanitiser at the beginning and end of their session. -Once your session is finished you will be required to exit from the back door. Parents will be able to collect their children from the back door. -Please dont bring other children or family members to your session, as they will not be allowed in. -All sessions (except those who are paying via NDIS - NDIS managed or Plan managed) will need to be paid via direct deposit before your session. -All therapy rooms, equipment, doors will continue to be cleaned and sanitised between sessions. I understand this can be extremely difficult. With the current advice from the NSW Premier encouraging parents to keep their children at home, I am also moving forward with the online learning option for speech pathology. Please contact me directly through email or text to confirm your interest in continuing your sessions. I will then be in touch to arrange the best plan for your family (e.g. in clinic,Telehealth/video conferencing, home programs etc). A reminder please do not come if you or a family member have travelled, been unwell, or have been in contact with someone who has been unwell.
