18.01.2022 PIONEERING NORTH QUEENSLAND SPEEDWAY Taking out the ‘Most Improved Track’ award at the 2019 Australian Speedway Awards, North Queensland’s Pioneer Park Speedway continues to go from strength to strength, with new operators and bold plans to establish the venue as the ‘showpiece’ of Australian Speedway. Having brought the venue back to life prior to reopening in 2018, Rod and Terri made the decision to step aside ahead of the new season, entrusting the track in the hands of ne...w operators Tony Patmore and Deon Lynd. The pair - business partners with ample experience promoting successful Speedway Solo and Sidecar events across Australia, are focused on bringing high quality events, entertainment and spectator engagement to North Queensland, injecting a new lease of life into the 47-year-old venue Despite already having one of the best presented venues in the country, Tony and Deon won’t be resting on their laurels, with plans to improve the experience for competitors and fans alike. Upgrades including resurfacing the track, increasing the banking on the turns and enlarging the infield concrete pad are soon to be in the works, as the pair look to attract new divisions and travelling competitors to the region including Sidecars, Modified Sedans and Sprintcars for major feature events. Long term, the pair seek to enlarge the spectator banks with the addition of modular grandstand seating and an enlarged corporate and cafeteria building aimed toward better accommodating the strong crowds the venue has become acustomed to. Despite restrictions on social gatherings and crowd numbers owing to COVID-19, the new operators got off to a flying start featuring major events for Modified Sedans and the QLD Formula 500 Title in quick succession. Both events featured solid car counts and strong crowds once again confirming Pioneer Park as a favorite for competitors and fans. More info about the venue, including upcoming dates can be found via their website https://pioneerparkspeedway.com.au/events-calendar/ and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Pioneer-Park-Speedway-1930941010466883/. 06.01.2022 REBORN TOM PRICE JOINS SPEEDWAY AUSTRALIA Tom Price Speedway, situated in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, is a mining town located at the edge of the Hamersley Range. Tom Price is the highest town above sea level in Western Australia and is consequently dubbed "Top Town in WA". From a speedway fans perspective its south of Nickol Bay and Port Hedland, and northwest of Newman. After the famous track lay dormant for approximately 8 years, a group of car enthusiasts i...n Tom Price recently approached the Shire of Ashburton about using the speedway as a clubrooms for their newly formed Motorsport club. The venue contains a speedway track, a burnout pad and the clubrooms facility which includes a bar and canteen. The newly formed committee soon realised they had a wave of community support to push them along with local businesses expressing interest in sponsorship and helping wherever they can. The Shire of Ashburton contributed a significant amount of funding which allowed them to renovate and clean up the facility including the removal and upgrade of the starters box and other buildings that no longer met the Shires standards. There was also an issue with the power which the club are still in the process of reinstating. The Tom Price Motorsport committee has proactively built its rapport with the community by helping out at the local drive in during movie nights, manning the gate and canteen to raise funds for the speedway. Theyve displayed classic, collectable and speedway cars at the local markets and the annual Nameless Festival, to create awareness and interest to the club and the sport of speedway. A new eco-friendly toilet was also constructed by Benco group near the main building and only days ago the lease was signed, and the keys were handed over. Next is the clubs AGM and an Open Day which will happen in the next couple of months however there is still a lot of work in the meantime to get the venue back up and running. Special thanks go out to: Peter Sawyer, Ken Rose, Ben Williams, Andrew Andreoli, Cassie Blackwell, John Hanlon, Shaun Bullock, Russell Mead, Mick Palmer, Brent Stevens, Tod Bennett and Ash Docherty. Local businesses who have helped out so far include: Benco Group, Tyrepro And Mechanical Tom Price, Shire of Ashburton, Tom Price Hotel Motel, Rio Tinto Tom Price Speedway has a rich history, with international level Solo and Sprintcar competition in previous iterations. Many people speak of the venue in glowing terms, and theres sure to be a large base of fans who will be delighted to hear of the rebirth. The total cost of the works was a reasonable figure with significant discounts and assistance completed thanks to great sponsors and hard work by the club members and volunteers. The venue is looking great for the season which starts on the 16th August with the Tom Green Memorial Junior Gold Cup, the first of four blue ribbon events. The Racing Drivers Association of WA. Inc was founded in 1964 and is a non-profit organization. In 1976 the club moved from Wattle Grove to Ellenbrook and has been providing a fun exciting sport with a difference for all individuals and familys every winter since that time. Ellenbrook Speedway runs approximately 12 race meetings from April to October every year. Most of their race meetings are run during daylight hours. With the completion of infield lighting towers in 2009 they are now capable of holding a couple of twilight meetings per year. We wish Club President Anthony Heelan and everyone at Ellenbrook Speedway all the best for the year ahead. More info at: https://www.facebook.com/ellenbrookspeedway

04.01.2022 TENNANT CREEK UNVEILS STUNNING UPGRADE Excitement will be high in the centre of the Northern Territory this weekend, with racing resuming at Tennant Creek Speedway after a spectacular upgrade to their facilities. Thanks to the Northern Territory Government and Motorsports NT, a two year work-in-progress has finally been completed with the installation of a brand new Speedway Australia 4-Star wall & catch fence. Upgrades to the timing system include the installation of a bran...d new timing loop in the track surface and theres also a brand new control tower, canteen and toilet block in the pit area. You can see the increase in fence height by looking at the white lines on the light towers from the pic in 2018 versus now. Led by Club President Colin Fry, the hard working committee and volunteers have worked overtime to ensure the venues success with the most significant improvement in the venues history now being completed. Previously this venue was rated for Sedan racing only, but the track can now host full fields of open wheel divisions, including SCCA Sprintcars of which two will hopefully demonstrate this weekend. Although there is a relatively small competitor base within the immediate township of Tennant Creek (around 8 Street Stocks, 2 Juniors and a Formula 500), the Northern Territory tracks support each other and competitors travel long distances to support the venues. Tennant Creek is mainly an agricultural centre these days and is located right in the middle of the Territory, 1000kms south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Their opening event for the season kicks off this Saturday night for a two night event, with a further four events scheduled between now and October. More info can be found on the Tennant Creek Speedway Club Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Tennant-Creek-Speedway-Club-239016869556036/. We wish Tennant Creek Speedway all the best for their long awaited reopening event!

03.01.2022 MARYBOROUGH HARD WIRED FOR SUCCESS Another track to have won the prestigious ‘Most Improved Track’ gong (at the 2018 Australian Speedway Awards), Maryborough Speedway haven’t rested on their laurels. Instead they’ve leveraged off major events to help them achieve council and government support for numerous infrastructure upgrades for the central Queensland venue. After a successfully hosting a range of major State and National Title events, including the 2018/19 National Juni...or Sedan title, Maryborough left no stone unturned putting together a successful bid to host World Series Sprintcars in 2019/20. The result was an enormously successful mid-week show, with a record crowd in attendance a fact not missed by local councillors. Since then, the club has been able to use the economic impact of the facility on the Fraser Coast region to obtain government funding for a number of much needed infrastructure projects. The venue’s electricity network is older than Methuselah in shorts according to Club Secretary, Kay Arthur. The first step has been to upgrade the main line into the venue, and the control box at a cost of around $15,000 The club have been fortunate to receive another significant boost in recent weeks, courtesy of Queensland Sports Active Restart Infrastructure Recovery Fund. The result of which will be more planned power upgrade, with the end goal being improved power to canteen facilities to accommodate crowds at large events, and new LED lighting for the entire racing surface, and pit area. In conjunction with the power and lighting upgrades, the club have put increased effort in track preparation, including widening the 370m long track to better accommodate the wide range of divisions which enjoy the venue from Quarter Midgets, Karts and Junior Sedans right through to Modified Sedans, Super Sedans and the aforementioned World Series Sprintcars. This coming Saturday night sees over 120 competitors in attendance, competing across 7 divisions including up to 45 juniors, signalling a strong future for the sport in central Queensland. These strong car counts are made all the more impressive, considering COVID-19 restrictions being in place. 02.01.2022 THE CAPITAL WORKS Canberra’s ACT Speedway looks to celebrate almost two-decades of racing through hosting one of Australia’s most prestigious National Title events. The Speedway Sedans Australia National Junior Sedan title will take place at the Fairbairn Park venue in January 2021 the first time in history a bonafide National Title will take place in the nation’s capital. Having undergone many alterations to the tracks layout over the years, Canberra’s 400m oval provides m...any unique challenges to drivers, owing to its sandy/clay based surface and undluating back straight. The 3-Star venue is a favourite of many Southern-NSW competitors, having featured everything from Sprintcars and Late Models, through to Production and Junior Sedans. Despite the venues changing shape over time, the biggest change came in 2018 with approval from the ACT Government to host night races for the first time via a series of trial events to ensure neighbouring residents were not adversly effected by noise. Canberrians had been left without a night- time speedway racing circuit since the closure of Tralee in 1997 (ironically, located metres across the border in NSW.) Since hosting their ultra-successful first night race, the ACT government are continuing the trial, with a further four events planned in 2020/21 the highlight of which will be the National Junior Sedan title on January 15-16. New club president James Hodak is confident this coming season will lay the foundations of a bright future for the Canberra speedway scene, with the venue enjoying strong support from a host of NSW divisional bodies and clubs. A number of further working bees are planned in the coming weeks, with new handrailings for the grandstands and a height extention to the primary concrete barrier highlighting the improvements competitors and fans will see ahead of the upcoming season. More info about the venue, including upcoming dates can be found via their website http://www.actspeedway.org.au and Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/actspeedway/ We wish ACT Speedway all the best ahead of their much anticipated 2020/21 season, which kicks off Saturday, October 31 with Late Models, Production Sedans and Street Stocks.

01.01.2022 TIMMIS NOT TIMID Mildura’s Timmis Speedway looks to be the first out of the blocks post-COVID, giving Victorian competitors their initial hit out of the 2020/21 season. Timmis will host a practice meeting on October 31st, with new president Jake Drewett determined to see cars come out of garages, and drivers socialising (whilst social distancing) at his local track. Continuing a lineage of strong leadership of Timmis Speedway Club, Jake hopes that some new ideas, and renewed ...enthusiasm will filter from the committee down, injecting a new lease of life into the 56-year-old venue. One of the keystone ideas of the new committee includes utilising the venue more often with monthly practice scheduled all year round, giving competitors more opportunity to get on track, regardless of the season. From an organisational standpoint, the club is taking inspiration from other ultra-successful regional venues across Australia as it aims to make Timmis one of the most revered venues for competitors and fans. The reformed leadership team aims to implement a governmental style ‘portfolio’ for each committee member, giving everyone a distinct role in the planning and operation of the club, and race events. Giving each committee member a ‘portfolio’ to take ownership of gives accountability to each of the members says Drewett. We’ve seen too often with clubs around Australia, cases where one or two people on the committee shoulder most of the burden. They get burnt out, and this usually results in them leaving the committee, or worse still, the whole sport We hope this new structure keeps everyone engaged and enthusiastic. Collectively, we have some big capital works in the pipeline to benefit everyone that attends the venue including replacing our ageing catch fence and terracing our bar areas to create a ‘pub’ style atmosphere for fans. We’re all looking forward to sinking our teeth in and getting stuff happening! We wish the committee at Timmis Speedway all the best ahead of their first practice event on October 31st. More information about this event, and the Mildura track can be found on their website: http://milduraspeedway.com, and Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/timmis.speedway.
