25.01.2022 Our Secretary,Sean has been busy with the tools and timber; Today's task was to make a frame for the Dragon Fruit (Pitaya). This fruit bearing cactus needs to grow upwards, then droop, to fruit. The frames have been constructed to support the plant as it grows. Sean's research indicates it is a common fruit in Malaysia that provided great export potential for growers, after the anti-oxidant and health values were discovered. The plant comes in 2 varieties, with a red or white... flesh fruit and Sean's preference is for the red type. Sean anticipates another six-months before we will see fruit. Hope you all enjoy this post, Ray H See more

25.01.2022 It is time to post an update on the Timber table currently being constructed at Springfield Camira Men"s Shed Inc. After some preparation with the sander, the top is now smooth and ready for its coat of "POG" or correctly pour on gloss, from Boatcraft Pacific. On the day, the POG was part of a product demonstration. It was interesting to see the gloss coat poured onto the tabletop, then spread around to cover the top and come down the rounded sides. The coat is a self levelling compound and will coat the tabletop to about 3 mm.

24.01.2022 RayH has sent in a project he has completed. Guess what this is used for ??? It makes use of a common gardening machine. Reply/comment with your guess and all will be revealed next week, Thanks.

22.01.2022 Springfield Camira Mens Shed Inc has partnered with Evolve Environmental Solutions to construct bird and possum boxes for Lendleases ongoing nature conservation committments at Springfield Rise & Springfield Lakes. Members of the Shed have designed and constructed prototype boxes as a shed project. One member, Wayne, has drawn up detailed plans, and documented construction of the boxes for the best use of materials. Another member, Rolly, has developed an effecient tool for ...bending the wire that will hold the the boxes to the trees once constructed. Other members have assisted with construction and finishing the prototype boxes in readiness for installation at site selected by Evolve Environmental Solutions. Pictures show construction of the prototype boxes by shed members, and a visit by Danielle from Lend Lease Corporation Marketing and John from Evolve Environmental Solutions to confirm designs in preparation for a larger number of boxes to be constructed and delivered to Evolve Environmental Solutions. Many thanks to all members who have contributed so far with this project.

22.01.2022 The Springfield Camira Men’s Shed say thank you to Jess who used her pocket money to purchase chocolates to give to the men. The chocolates were enjoyed by all, and very much appreciated.

22.01.2022 Members of the Mens Shed discuss project details under the shade of the new shade cloth, which covers the area between the shed and the Community Centre building. The shade cloth provides shade for the space and cools the air in the shed as well. The shade cloth also enables members to spread out our machinery into the shaded area. Many thanks to member Eric for supplying the cover and I acknowledge the work of the members who contributed in the erection of the shade cover. Enjoy gentlemen.

Thanks to those members who volunteered their time to clean up another members garden & yard. Roly expresses his gratitude to Bunnings Springfield Central for donating a flash new toolbox, as well as cleaning out their cupboard and donating a variety of tools and dispensables.

20.01.2022 Time for a snag & bread Bunnings Springfield Central Sunday 8th of December Supporting the Mens shed

20.01.2022 A dedicated group of Springfield Camira Mens Shed Inc blokes have been doing a great job with their garden patch, adjacent to the shed. There have been purchases of some new soil from our friends at Bunnings Springfield, and also a couple of new tools. With this, the gardens have been refurbished and fertilised and give the soil a brief rest. Next step was planting some more seedlings and new plants, and applying some additional water. The recent rain was a big help too.... Now the garden is on the way well and truly. The new plants are flourishing and the established herbs are growing well also. Please review the attached photos; I am not sure if the Pumpkin vine is wild or not, but it is also growing well and there are some immature pumpkins already. Enjoy, RayH

18.01.2022 We are off to Bunnings on Saturday, not to shop but to serve you, your favourite meal, snags on onions on bread or just snags on bread. The crates and eskys are all ready to go, the snags have been ordered and our members have volunteered. These days are very important to us at the Shed, as they are one of our major fund raisers. BBQ Bob (yes thats his real name) has done his planning, he has rallied his willing volunteers, he has selected his snags, his chefs, his server...s and of course his supply of wonderful sauces, onions, bread and utensils. So on Saturday the 2nd of November make it a snag on bread day, for breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Be adventurous, try a different sauce each time, try onions on, onions off, even grab a water or soft drink. We will make the snag on bread, so you can make BBQ Bobs day. Please feel free to take some photos and either share them with your friends or post on Facebook. The guys will even cater for Wedding parties, just drop by. See you at Bunnings Springfield Central Saturday See more

18.01.2022 Member David has been updating his signage on his property. Firstly, David brought along a piece of timber to the Shed, and with the assistance of Ron, ran it through the the thicknesses/planer to tidy it up. Back home, David continued with finishing and routing the numbers and adding paint to bring them out, before the finishing coats of varnish, necessary for the signs life outside. The result is a well prepared sign, ready for the entry to Davids property.

17.01.2022 Springfield Camira Mens Shed is re-opening on June 16 for COVID-19 inductions. Yay!!! Looking forward to start getting back towards normal activities. Ring Bob or Jeff to book into an induction session.

17.01.2022 Our president was a bit grumpy after getting a flatty from dropped screws on the shed driveway, so he built a magnetic wand, and Geoff mastered the scanning process to pick up all the metal. Great to see most of our members wearing masks at the shed to help us get on top of this virus.

17.01.2022 My son was building an outdoor kitchen on his deck, and needed a cutting board. Thanks to the equipment and expertise of the Springfield Camira Mens Shed, I put this one together. Thanks to Errol & Rick for the use of their specialised routers. Simon thought I was pretty clever making this, but little does he know that it was the good advice and assistance from Ron, Terry, Errol & Rick with a few others throwing their two bobs in that guided me. Also well done to Simon for a fabulous job of building his kitchen. Jeff.

08.01.2022 Lots of activity at the SCMS today. Rons roll out shaded work area is nearing completion. There is a hive of activity constructing the possum boxes. Two gentlemen from the newly forming Mens Shed in Boonah collected machinery & equipment that we donated. A successful containers recycle run was done. A gentleman showed us a rocking horse he built, and we have a pattern should we wish to replicate it. A test & tag contractor tested our remaining equipment, and got the lathe operational. Whoopee.

08.01.2022 Here is something from me: This lockdown is a opportunity to do some of those little jobs that I dont quite dont get around to; Point in case to refurbish and sharped the secateurs prior to the garden work. The maroon ones are the Missus one that were left out in the yard for a short time, so a quick dismantle, clean and sharpen was in order. They work much better now!!... The orange ones are old sandvik ones; again, dismantle, sharpen blade, then reassemble. Both pairs are now ready for some serious pruning. RayH See more

04.01.2022 Springfield Camira Mens Shed Inc has restarted, with appropriate restrictions after our Covid-19 shutdown. Projects are back on the list, and construction of our round table has restarted. Materials for the table were purchased using our Stronger Communities Federal Government grant from The Big Red Shed,Darra. They also assisted with some pre-fabrication of the tabletop by making the holes for the jointing dowels. Terry and Wayne are leading the project, and Wayne has done an excellent job with the drafting and design work for the project. 04.01.2022 It has been a busy week at Springfield Camira Mens Shed. Wayne and his team have been busy cutting up plywood and timber to construct the bird and passion boxes for Evolve Environmental Solutions. The boxes are going together well and a number of the different sized boxes are now ready for a coat of preservative before hand over to EES. Rolly has also trained a couple of the newer members in the art of bending the wire which will allow the boxes to be attached to the trees a...t Springfield Rise and Spring Mountain. Another project is the childrens tables which are also well under way. They all have a base coat and are ready for a colourful top coat. The new movable shade roof and the recently attached shade cloth have proved their worth, enabling machines and materials to be taken out, with enough room to work around.
