25.01.2022 Experimenting with a little bit of locally sourced morton bay fig tree wood. It has quite nice growth rings showing. This is just a little bowl that will be suitable for earrings or trinkets. Has been burnished and with spoon butter finish. #spoonguy #bowlmaking #woodenbowl #figwood

23.01.2022 The LAST two spoon carving workshop dates for 2020 have been set. Your choice of: Sunday October 11 (just one spot let) or Sunday November 1st (4 spots available)... It will be up to 5 months till the next workshops will recommence...so grab this chance! https://www.matteliason.com/spoon-carving-workshops/ The workshops are each a day of going with the grain at a gentle pace, using tools, hands, and heart. Learn skills that will allow you to make spoons for home or wonderful Christmas gifts for family and friends. Tools and materials are supplied, plus morning tea, just bring your lunch. The small group size ensures personal attention and you will go home with your own creation! Remember... Wood is good, it’s beautiful, it’s just wonderful! It is nature that gives us such a material that awakens our senses, pleases the eye and invokes thought and imagination. Nothing artificial, a natural raw material from which many things have been made, from mighty wharves to house frames, to the most amazing delicate carvings, dishes and spoons, from time immemorial. Wood is around us in living form and when the time comes to be re-imagined, re-birthed and re-purposed. https://www.matteliason.com/spoon-carving-workshops/

03.01.2022 Making a shallow platter from a branch of a giant I think its a Morton Bay Fig (I'll have to investigate). Liking the little bubbles effects after using a small gouge. The grooves will be left to make a "groovy bowl baby" #spoonguy #woodenbowl #bowl #platter #woodenplatter

03.01.2022 I was at the Woodford Folk Festival site, called Woodfordia, earlier this week for a couple of days and I saw this wonderful vista looking up the hill past the amphitheatre, into the forest with its white trunked sentinels guarding the dark depths. I found it very enticing but unfortunately didn't have time to go for a walk and explore the dark depths of the hillside. It was a nice view all the same.
