As of Tuesday, 14th April 2020, private health insurance rebates will be available for physiotherapy Telehealth (video/telephone) appointments, ensuring that patients can continue to access necessary treatment during the Covid-19 pandemic. 19.01.2022 Some Changes To Our Practice To continue operating in the current pandemic climate, we have instituted some changes to the practice to ensure the safety to our patients and staff, to ensure we can continue to stay open and help those of you in pain. If you’re attending the clinic, please note the following for consideration: Prior to your appointment:... Have you been in contact with anyone that has tested positive for COVID-19? Do you have any flu like symptoms such as a cough, fever or sore throat? If you answered yes to any of the above, please contact reception on 4957 3747 to discuss your appointment. When attending your appointment: There is no longer a waiting room, if you arrive early, please wait in your car until your appointment time. Entry is no longer through the reception door. Please follow the signs outside the practice. Before entering through the door, for assistance please ring the bell and wait for a staff member to greet you. Please don’t enter the clinic before this. A staff member will then take your temperature to ensure you do not have a fever. You will then be asked to wash your hands. When leaving the clinic, the exit is through reception. Please wait behind the taped line to observe social distancing between you and our reception staff Please don’t congregate in reception, if there’s someone else being served, please wait in the treatment area. We are disinfecting all surfaces between patients to ensure the best infection control practices to continue to keep you safe, and for our practice to continue to remain open and serve those of you in pain.

18.01.2022 Today is #WorldOsteoporosisDay, a timely reminder to consider your bone health. Osteoporosis is the underlying cause of painful, debilitating and life-threateni...ng broken bones known as fragility fractures. It is a growing problem, with fragility fractures affecting one in three women and one in five men over the age of 50. As bone loss is gradual and painless, there are usually no symptoms to indicate when someone is developing osteoporosis. If you are experiencing height loss, previous fractures, or have a family history of osteoporosis, consider making an appointment with your doctor to assess your risk. World Osteoporosis Day

13.01.2022 How Quickly To Increase How Much Exercise You’re Doing? We have a couple of rules of thumb for this: -If you’re starting from scratch, stick with the same routine for at least 3-4 weeks before you look at increasing things. This will give you a solid foundation to build on moving forward. Then you can follow the rule below. ... -If you’ve had a couple of weeks or months off, then increasing by 10% a week is realistic, with a 5-10% deload every 4-6 weeks for just a week to allow for some recovery. For example, if you’re doing 2 x 5km runs per week, that’s 10km a week. A 10% increase would have you running 11km the next week, 12+ the next, 13-14km the week after that, and if we’re factoring in a deload, back to 12km the week after that. Rinse, repeat cycle. Hopefully these tidbits have you getting active, staying active and injury free and reaching your health and fitness goals in 2020.

04.01.2022 Dietitian News 2020 NEW YEAR, NEW ME? With a new year approaching, diet culture is stronger than ever with diet messages including summer shreds, fad diets and quick weight loss plans. I know how tempting this can be, but I encourage you to avoid the temptation of a quick fix this year and prioritise developing sustainable habits for long term health. Doesn’t really have the same ring to it, does it? ... Stay with me... When we choose outcome driven goals I want to lose x amount of weight by x amount of time we miss the process as they typically have a deadline. So, what happens after that? Rather if you focus on process driven goals, without a looming deadline you give yourself time to adjust and adapt to change, give yourself the opportunity to learn what your body actually likes and enjoys and as a result you will develop habits which can be applied long term. The best part is that once the habits are formed the outcomes generally take care of themselves We all have to eat to live, so why not tune into your intuition this year and find a way of eating that works for you. Not sure where to start? Take the first step - https://addietitian.com/home/work-with-me/

04.01.2022 Ovarian cancer warrior, Jill Emberson has been named Newcastle's Woman of the Year. The former award winning journalist was told she'd be awarded the honour just days before her passing, today her family accepted on her behalf.

03.01.2022 New Decade, New You This time of year is when most of us get started on a new routine of exercise. We have new goals, new plans, more time to focus on taking care of ourselves. And this is awesome. What we don’t like to see is people getting pulled off the wagon they are just getting on because they get injured. What’s more frustrating? We’ve taken the first step to do more, we have scheduled time into our weeks for our new routine, and now our bodies aren’t letting us do wh...at we want to do. One of the more common reasons this happens, is we haven’t allowed enough time for our bodies to get up to the same speed that our enthusiasm is at. While the body is very plastic in how it can change, it has a speed limit on how quickly it can adapt. So Where Do We Start? If you’re starting back after a couple of years away from exercise, it may be a good idea to speak to us, a personal trainer or exercise physiologist to get a plan in place. While not fool proof, it’s a safer way to start so we don’t fall down before we really get going. If it’s been a couple of weeks, or even a couple of months, it’s best to at least give yourself the same amount of time you’ve had off, to get back up to speed. 4 weeks off? 4 weeks to regain what you’ve lost. 6 months? Then allow yourself at least 6 months to get back there.
