25.01.2022 Due to the Stage 3 Restrictions we will again suspend all visits to large agistment properties to ensure we are fully aligned with the Australian Government Department of Health guidelines and updates and those of Racing Victoria, EA and FEI. We will be adopting Social Distancing and extensive sanitizing procedures. We know the horses pose no health risk but we will ensure there is the recommended space between us and other humans (3 meters) . We will ask you to catch the ho...rse and safely secure him or her and then to step away at a distance of at least 3 meters. We will use and might ask you to use hand sanitiser, face mask when needed and thorough hand washing measures before and after treatment We will be assessing our client base on a daily basis and not treat horses outside of my regular client base until Stage 3 restrictions get reduced. Current clients can still expect the same service and regular appointmemts will go ahead as scheduled if we can do so safely and when the owner/handler can assure us they have not been overseas in the last 2 weeks and are not feeling ill in any way. A form will be emailed out to you to bring to your horses appoimtment. We understand this is an ever changing climate and we are closely monitoring the advice and recommendations for the Government and Health Organisations as well. Lets help and support eachother in this strange time. We can do this. Stay healthy everyone :) ps: Thanks Arthur for being the OH&S Manager

25.01.2022 Scarlett was making sure i was doing it right. I was after all treating her special friend Maverick today!

24.01.2022 http:// Terminology Tuesday - The Central Pattern Generators // When a foal is born, the gaits are already embedded. The limb sequences and their diagonal connection...s are already present in all gaits. This is because of the Central Pattern Generators. Put simply, the Central Pattern Generators (CPGs) are dense clusters of nerves in the spinal cord that coordinate the limb movements. There is one in the cervical thoracic region (withers) and another in the lumbar/sacral region (loins). The concept of the Central Pattern Generator can be a complex topic to understand, but the key pieces of information that are interesting are: The CPGs enable the patterns of the gaits without any input from the brain. The front CPG is the decision-maker - it informs the hind end, which provides feedback. Take a look at this animation of the Central Pattern Generators in action. Notice how the front is informing the back, and they are both directing the limbs. There is some feedback from back to front but the main message regarding the gait itself is coming from the front CPG. One of the reasons the great masters of equitation emphasised that the walk is the ‘mother of all gaits’ is because the walk is the slowest gait, and each limb is separated, so it’s easier for the trainer to target the precise moment a leg can be most influenced, which is the beginning of the lift (swing) phase.

23.01.2022 No secrets we love horses...and on the universal race horse birthday there is extra carrots, apples and licorice. Happy Birthday ponies big small fast and slow

22.01.2022 "I cant wait to clean the green slime out of my horse's trough" said no one EVER! Luckily for me a very clever lady has this amazing new product that is all natural and non toxic (which i love) and its as easy as making a cup of tea (just leave the tea bag in) "Trough Rocks" are the big brothers of "Dog Rocks" and will prevent crazy green algae growth in your horses drinking water.... You are welcome

21.01.2022 Amazing Fidelia has retired. Goodbye beautiful lady, it was an honour to be one of your loyal servants :)

21.01.2022 If it isnt the newest recruit...Bram

18.01.2022 Another great write up by Dr David Marlin

17.01.2022 Isnt the supplement/ feed world confusing?!? Well this is why... Another brilliant Dr.David Marlin write up... I like to ask a good, experienced and qualified nutritionist to help you when you need help. They will be happy to work with whatever feed you use, analyze pasture and analyze horse blood results. Scientific data needs to be independent, with large numbers, over a period of time that is sufficient to not only see positive but also negative results...oh and then there ...is WHERE and HOW is the product made/extracted No wonder its all a bit confusing!

14.01.2022 Did you hear horses have to wear masks too Miss? Just joking...

14.01.2022 In most European countries the performance horse has a team to help keep him happy and healthy or aid his rehab after injury or surgery. When you have surgery dont you expect a surgeon, physio, masseuse and trainer to work together to get you back to health? You should expect no less for your horse. Good practitioners are happy to work in a team and be a little part of the rehab puzzle, led by the vet. https://horseandrider.com//equine-massage-therapy-can-bene

12.01.2022 What else do you do with your horse? Do you have fun with him? Does he like hanging out with you as much as you do with him?

11.01.2022 Due to the Stage 4 Lockdown Restrictions we will again suspend all visits to large agistment properties and privately owned horses ( with exception of horses currently in rehab )from 12pm Wednesday the 5th of August to ensure we are fully aligned with the Australian Government Department of Health guidelines and updates and those of Racing Victoria and the FEI. We will be available on the phone and via email to our regular clients if concerned or if you have any questions, l...ike some rehab of functional exercises or some stretches to practise ( 6 weeks to master them!). We are only a phone call away. This will apply till the 1st of September which is when we will reasses. We understand this is an ever changing climate and we are closely monitoring the advice and recommendations for the Government and Health Organisations as well. Lets help and support eachother in this strange time so that we may all stay healthy and well and come together again once this is all over. We can do this. Stay healthy everyone :)

10.01.2022 Asking a horse to sit and lift with engagement (hind limbs stepping under the mass and lifting) is akin to asking a human athlete to do pull ups, squat thrusts,... push ups or stair climb workouts. They are hard to do and they hurt, so you can't do them for very long, and you can't do too many, and you can't ask for "just one more" once the tank is dry. And while a human athlete may want to get more fit, or get her varsity letter, or make a squad, and be internally driven and motivated by that, the horse has no such concepts or goals. So while dressage based training can be beneficial for the horse, it can also be its own little version of torture chamber for horses trained by riders who drill and grind. Far better to have a long game attitude, ask for only a little a few days a week, rather than to ask for (or demand) more than the horse can safely give in any given schooling session. WE can't feel what the horse is feeling, so we have to sort of guess. Better to guess it's enough for today too early than too late----

10.01.2022 FEI OUTLAW WHISKER TRIMMING The FEI have outlawed trimming the whiskers of competition horses in a ruling that will begin in July 2021. Horses are not allowed t...o compete in any FEI competitions internationally if "the horse’s sensory hairs have been clipped and/or shaven or in any other way removed unless individual sensory hairs have been removed by a veterinarian to prevent pain or discomfort for the horse. However trimming for veterinary reasons is exempt from this ruling. The horse's whiskers, or vibrissae, are so sensitive to vibration and changes in air current they can instantly inform the horse about his environment for example helping him avoid injury by detecting nearby objects, differentiating between different textures, judging wind direction and identifying food. The horse has a blind spot beneath his muzzle and so his whiskers are a vital aid to his vision. From the horse’s point of view, removing these whiskers reduces his spatial awareness and leaves him partially handicapped. We in the UK are still very backward in many aspects of horse welfare and it’s time for us to catch up, we should have made this ruling long ago... I have to say I didn't think we'd see this coming from the FEI first, it is amazing news!

09.01.2022 SLOW motion video of a horse under saddle to show you how much range of motion the WITHER area actively uses at the WALK. When a saddle fits too wide and falls... onto the wither, or a saddle pad doesn’t have wither relief, this area is immobilized and the horse is unable to move with any fluidity. In fact, they will be short-strided, slow to move forward, and actively raise their heads creating a hollow frame. See more

08.01.2022 After 15 years of service, Buzz had his last patrol on Thursday. Thank you @sarahunterphotography for capturing the beautiful bond between him and his part...ner Officer Lorie Phillips. Buzz, born in 2001 was purchased in 2005 from the Angola State Prison in Louisiana. After serving the City of Indianapolis so wonderfully for 15 years he has earned a well deserved retirement, and will be sad to see him go. Just imagine how many smiles this boy has brought to our community and beyond from all his patrols/ details, community events, and from his social media account. Like k9 officers, mounted officers can get pretty attached to their mounts. Officer Phillips will be taking Buzz home to enjoy this next chapter!! Happy Retirement, Buzz! We look forward to seeing all the fun and relaxation he is having in his retirement years @buzz_the_police_horse @sarahunterphotography

07.01.2022 Fascia is a crucial part of the body and the systems that move it. Here you can see why 'releasing' fascia is next to impossible. A therapist will mobilise a joint or an area of the body, the treatment will create more range of movement. Therapy + good training will increase range of movement and restore healthy range of motion and release areas of contraction and tension.
