23.01.2022 Let's do some writing! Holiday cards to friends or family are a great opportunity for kiddos to practise writing their names or a short message, or drawing a picture! When the card is finished, it's also a great opportunity to demonstrate how to post a letter. Get them involved in putting the card in an envelope, sticking on a stamp, and popping it in the post!

21.01.2022 Sensory paths are a great way to keep your kids occupied at home and they support balance, coordination and motor planning. This family is encouraging their kids to come up with their own ideas to add to the path each day to extend it the whole way around their home! Fantastic!

17.01.2022 Another new addition to the team! Cinta is now the friendly face at front reception taking on all things administrative and just generally being awesome. Cinta has already made a great contribution to the team and we love seeing her friendly smile each day. Welcome Cinta!

15.01.2022 Time for a little gross motor fun! How about a holiday themed game of charades? Charades is a great way to practise coordinating different movements and actions. Kiddos can act out being reindeer, wrapping a present, packing Santa's sack, or elves making toys! Fun for different ages, and you'll be started in minutes!

11.01.2022 This week is Speech Pathology Week and speech pathologists around the country are raising awareness about communication disabilities and the challenges faced by the 1.2 million Australians living with a communication disability. Communication is a fundamental human right that makes us feel connected to others and our community. There are so many different ways to communicate, and at SPOT we love to help children and their families reach their communication potential. As speech pathologists we like to celebrate communication and support everyone to communicate with confidence!

11.01.2022 With the weather getting a little wet and chilly, help build your child’s attention, concentration, planning and gross motor skills with an indoor obstacle course! Include obstacles such as weaving around chairs, crawling under the table, walking over a blanket covering cushions, jumping masking tape lines, jumping into a bean bag, completing some animal walks (i.e. walk like a crab) or crawling over cushions. You might also have your child draw up the course as they pl...an it to remember the course! Add in some challenges along the way such as throwing bean bags or toys onto a basket or completing a puzzle To increase motivation make it a race and the fastest person through wins! See more

10.01.2022 Why not play the classic game I Spy with a holiday twist and use your Christmas tree decorations?! Not only is I Spy a fun game that kiddos of all ages can enjoy, but it also has some added language bonuses such as promoting vocabulary, describing, practising phrases/sentences, inferencing, responding to questions with yes/no, and turn taking! 02.01.2022 Holiday baking is one of the most versatile activities we can do with our kiddos! Not only is it a fun way to spend time together, but it can create many great opportunities for language and fine motor skills as well! Promote language skills by talking your way through the process. Use terms such as 'first, next, last' to promote sequencing and narrative development. Make a language game out of describing how different treats are decorated. You can talk about shapes, c...olours, textures, size, etc! Play decorating Simon Says - "Simon Says put the green sprinkles on the star cookie!" For developing fine motor skills, have kids get involved with pouring, mixing, cracking, rolling, and cutting!

01.01.2022 Happy Saturday everyone! Channel your creativity this weekend playing with chalk! Enjoy some sunshine and draw a self portrait, an obstacle course or maze, make a game of hopscotch or write a message for the people walking past. Use your imagination!

01.01.2022 Ready to get the kids involved in some holiday craft? Why not make your own wrapping paper this year? Kiddos can unleash their creativity while also building fine motor skills as they colour, write, stamp, stick and cut! Even better, you probably have everything you need right at home Paper (printer paper, or rolls of craft/butchers paper) Textas, crayons, pencils or paints Stamps or stickers... Endless imagination!
