22.01.2022 Spraypoint Cottage is getting a bit of loving care while the shutdown is on. We will have all double glazed windows. The main window is now a large single pane to help soak in the views. The house is getting completely painted externally and will have a whole new colour scheme. We then hope to get all new heating and refrigerated cooling and some solar panels to keep it all ticking along. Hopefully we are back in action by spring. Say safe everyone.

08.01.2022 I had the opportunity recently to go snorkelling in the spray point snorkelling pool. This is a large (80x30m) rock pool that is revealed as the tide drops. It is on the Koonya beach side of spray point. If you are checking the tides, it is probably usable from .6m and below, but I would recommend 0.5m or below. The pool is completely enclosed making it very safe if you have calm conditions. Small waves producing some spray on the outer rocks (as in the pictures) are not a ...concern. The pool would be very dangerous when waves are washing directly into the pool or if water is washing over the rocks into the open sea. Always access conditions carefully. But when conditions are right, as they often are in summer, it’s a great place. The pool is not big enough to warrant those awkward flippers so goggles and snorkel are all you need. Take footwear that can get wet as the surrounding rocks are uncomfortable for bare feet and carry residual water. The section of the pool closest to the beach (front) is shallow and lush sea grasses. The part of the pool closer to the sea has rock faces and an amazing array of sea life and vegetation. My preference is to walk about half way up the left side of the pool and enter the deeper water. I found several schools of small fish who seemed completely oblivious to me, letting me be very close to them. There was also a very large groper type fish at the bottom waiting for something tasty to swim past. Drift around the edges of the pool allows you to see the rock walls, then explore the middle of the pool and checkout the sea grasses. A great way to spend an hour. Make sure you check the tides before you go. Search Sorrento BACK beach tides (It is amazing how different the tides are between the back and bay beaches). Northerly’s, apart from being warmer, have the calmer conditions as well. Unfortunately, I did not have a camera capable of underwater shots, so maybe some other time. Richard
