22.01.2022 We had some very excited Kindy children today on their first day of Term 4. They discovered that the fairies had been to visit and set up a home during the holidays! Much fun was also had in our mini-Bunnings especially at the cash register and sausage sizzle! #kindergarten #earlyyears #earlychildhoodeducation #learningthroughplay #perthhills #beingfour #kalamunda

21.01.2022 What beautiful weather today for an exciting boat trip. First tickets were given out (leaves), more passengers arrived and the drivers got prepared. After some rough seas and children overboard (who were rescued) everyone swam safely to the island. Thank goodness for play - so much cooperation, negotiation, imagination and fun! #playbasedlearning #kindergarten #beingfour #earlyyears #earlyyearseducation #outdoorplay @ Spring Road Community Kindergarten

19.01.2022 We had some fun on the lead up to Halloween last week - hammering golf tees into pumpkins! So great for hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills, not to mention heaps of fun.

19.01.2022 Now we are 4! We had lots of fun today celebrating the fact that all of the Kindy children are four years old for the time being! We made a number 4 cake and each chose four items to decorate it with. We made party hats, read books and listened to songs about the number four. Hooray! Happy holidays little people! 4 #kindergarten #beingfour #wearefour #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #perthhills #endofterm @ Spring Road Community Kindergarten

13.01.2022 2020 Plant Fundraiser - 20-40% of retail prices https://www.springroadkindy.com.au/plant-fundraiser.html Support the Spring Road Community Kindergarten Kalamunda and buy some plants in our Gardening Fundraising Program. We have partnered with two garden nurseries, to bring you some quality plants at great prices.... Gardening is a great activity for the whole family and being outdoors is great for children. As well as the fact kids love the great outdoors, the fresh air works wonders for them, and outdoor activities keep them active. Gardening offers so many fun and interesting opportunities for children and teaches them invaluable lessons. They can learn about the different species of plants and what those plants need to help them grow. They also get to learn about the different seasons, weather and the effects they have on the plants. It also offers an opportunity to learn about different shapes and colours, and different animals and insects they might come across. See our website for forms or a member of our committee.

10.01.2022 Kindy parents working hard to get wicking beds in so the kindy kids can grow their own fruit! And our new air conditioner is being installed!

08.01.2022 These are the amazing kindy packs the Spring Road kindy teachers put together for the kids to do at home. SOOO much work has gone into them - the bags are handmade and the activities are tailored for each child and their individual abilities. We are so very lucky to have such wonderful teachers who go over and above to ensure our kids have a fantastic kindy experience.

08.01.2022 There was huge excitement yesterday when the children arrived to see our brand new turf had been installed! Thanks to our amazing committee (past and present) for organising quotes and the install and to Samantha Jane for writing an incredible grant to Lotteries West last year! It has brightened up our playground and we now have a safer place for all that active play!

03.01.2022 It has been a planting kind of day at Kindy today! We have planted passion fruit plants in some of our new wicking beds, removed the weeds from our veggie patch ready for new vegetable seedlings and started off our snow pea shoots in cups. Such wonderful collaboration at the veggie patch! We cant wait to observe the new growth! #kindergarten #kalamunda #perthhills #fouryearolds #natureplay #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #gardeningwithkids @ Spring Road Community Kindergarten

02.01.2022 This is my most widely shared post. And rightly so, its an important one. These are prewriting patterns, with the average (not prescribed) age at which child...ren are developmentally ready to achieve these patterns listed below them in years and months. Being able to process visual information and produce a movement in response (e.g. copying these prewriting patterns or letter formations), is known as visual motor integration. Note that an X is not typically achieved until 4 years 11 months, and a triangle at 5 years 3 months. If a child cant form these basic shapes...then they probably wont be able to form letters. It is quite concerning then that there are 3 year 7 month olds starting formal schooling, where theyre expected to write. Not only are their visual motor integration skills not developed enough, their hands are also physically under-developed. In addition, recognising letters, understanding phonics and beginning to read are all needed in order for a child to write meaningfully, skills which children starting kindy typically dont have. We also know that when a child learns something that doesnt hold meaning, its unlikely to stick. So if you have a 3-4 year old who spontaneously asks or attempts to write letters, thats great; otherwise, there is no need to initiate or worry about this. Unfortunately there is a misconception, particularly with the way that the current curriculum stands, that earlier is better. Earlier is not always better.
