24.01.2022 Well done ABC. A pretty good overview of the current evidence that should inform low back pain management. http://www.abc.net.au//treating-lower-back-pain-wi/9850798

24.01.2022 A neat graphic developed from the Acupuncture Evidence Project providing a quick reference to the strength of research evidence (or lack thereof) supporting acupuncture as treatment of various conditions. The positive clinical experience of acupuncture as a component of our approach is supported by a strong or reasonable evidence base for a number of musculoskeletal injuries!

24.01.2022 Health Care Professionals are always subject to quite rigorous hygiene practice regulations. At Springwood Sports Health we will be ramping up our usual processes to help keep you, our clients, our staff and families healthy, so that we can continue to look after your health needs as usual. This includes hourly wiping down of all clinic surfaces with disinfectant products, (including HiCap eFTPos terminal), and changing of table linen after each client. We have hand sanitis...er and disinfectant wipes available for your use. If you are unwell, please phone us and we will rebook you for a more appropriate time. 07.01.2022 Back operations. The poor relationship between "correcting" structural pathology and positive pain outcomes, and why a U.S. orthopaedic specialist no longer performs surgery. https://www.painnewsnetwork.org//why-im-leaving-spine-surg

07.01.2022 Netballers and their knees!! Netball season is well and truly underway, and now is a great time to consider injury prevention. There are many factors involved in injury so it is impossible to predict just who will be injured, but we do know that poor movement patterns and lack of stability when jumping, landing or changing directions are major risk factors in knee injury! Alix Rasi is our very experienced physiotherapist who has a special interest in preventing netball knee i...njuries through re-training control and stability during sport specific movements. Alix is available for appointments Tuesday through Friday. Contact us on 32082066. See more

07.01.2022 Tour de France legs.... Low body fat, cycling tan, and big pipes to deal with a lot of blood flow! Fun fact : Average bloke sitting around doing nothing might have about 1 litre per minute blood flow per leg. Supremely trained cyclist up the Alps might pump 20 litres per leg per minute

07.01.2022 Low Back Pain. 84% of us will have some at some time, but exactly how important are x-rays and scans in working out why someone has pain? In most cases the answer is NOT AT ALL. I put that in "shouty" writing because we get many patients who have had a diagnosis based on imaging alone. Ive attached an important graphic showing just how often things show up on lumbar spine images of people who have no pain. A proper assessment takes skill, experience and plenty of time to hear a patients story. Thats what Springwood Sports Health is about!

07.01.2022 We welcomed Alix Rasi, our senior physio, back to the clinic yesterday after her well deserved end of year break in Finland with family. Alix has stories of snow, Santa Claus, and Husky sled rides to share, and just quietly, I think shes enjoying the clinic aircon while re-acquainting herself with our fine summer humidity! We now have everyone back on deck for a fabulous 2018!

06.01.2022 Changes in the spine are as normal as developing wrinkles in our skin or grey in our hair. Pain is not particularly closely related to structure! http://www.ajnr.org/content/ajnr/36/4/811.full.pdf

06.01.2022 Q. How quickly should I get treatment on an acute muscle strain? A. Dont wait! This new study shows that avoiding immobilisation and starting injury management & rehabilitation 2 days post injury rather than at 9 days shortened recovery by 3 weeks, without increasing the risk of reinjury.

06.01.2022 If youve pick up a niggle over the weekend and your body needs a bit of attention, youre in luck! - there are a couple of physio appointments available this afternoon, give us a call on 32082066, wed love to help get you back on track

03.01.2022 Effective pain relief! A recent study of 300 patients with acute pain showed acupuncture to be more effective in relief and speed of relief than morphine. In groups of 150 each, morphine also caused 21 X more adverse responses to treatment! Call for an appointment and let our registered acupuncturists help manage your pain.... http://www.greenmedinfo.com//acupuncture-beats-injected-mo

01.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago Kochie of Sunrise on Channel 7 did a story on prostate cancer. Did he give good advice? The following is a response from a professor of evidence based medicine... https://www.smh.com.au//why-i-won-t-take-kochie-s-advice-o

01.01.2022 Treating injuries always requires a multi-modal approach, where you utilise the interventions most likely to be beneficial in reducing pain and improving function, to bigger the bigger picture exercise modification and strengthening. Despite having a Masters degree in acupuncture, I use needling often but not all the time. The following is a link to a summation of the current evidence base for acupuncture used as treatment. http://www.acupuncture.org.au//AcupunctureEvidenceProject.
