26.03.2022 SSAA NSW ADVOCACY SUCCESS - MANDATORY ATTENDANCES FOR LAST TWO YEARS FORGIVEN SSAA NSW has been advocating for its members and all legal firearm owners not to... be penalised as a result of mandatory attendances requirements for the last two years due to the impact of COVID-19 and the recent fires and floods. SSAA NSW has had a series of discussions with the NSW Firearms Registry and the NSW Police Force regarding the impacts of these challenges. Today we have been informed that our advocacy has been successful. The NSW Firearms Registry has advised the following: "Although the NSWPF continues to encourage compliance with mandatory participation requirements, the challenges being faced due to the recent impacts of severe weather events and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic are acknowledged. If a club member has not complied with the participation requirements because it has not been feasible or practical to do so, the NSWPF will not revoke licences on failure to comply with mandatory participation requirements until after the 15 April 2023. As of 15 April 2023, the NSWPF will return to considering compliance with participation requirements. This means that licence holders need to meet their participation requirements over the next 12 months but do not need to complete their participation requirements for previous years." This is great news and we thank our members and the NSW Firearms Registry and NSW Police Force for working with us on this important matter. Members now have from now until April 15th 2023 to do one year worth of attendances. As your Peak Association we will continue to work in the best interests of all legal firearms owners. We look forward to seeing you out at the range or in the field. Thank you, LANCE MILLER PRESIDENT - SSAA NSW JAI ROWELL CEO - SSAA NSW
