25.01.2022 Summary from SSAA SA regarding the fireams audit requirments. News headlines today, "Firearms crackdown in SA" etc. It's quite misleading, alarming and more than a little bit annoying. All it is, the SAPOL Firearms Branch are actually another step closer to moving across to the upgraded registry system. Believe it or not, this new system will actually be helpful to the legitimate firearms community in the fullness of time. Unfortunately, this information was sprung on us las...t night with no time to discuss the release before mainstream media sensationalised this information as click-bait and to alarm people. It's not a new crackdown as such. The new database needs to be populated with more accurate information than the old system can provide. Whilst this "self-audit" WILL be an inconvenience to some 66000 licensed firearm owners across the state, its marginally better than the alternative inconvenience of having them turn up at your door unannounced to conduct the audit themselves, in some cases 'again'. You WILL have to comply but not until you receive the official letter and here's what you need to know; Follow this link for the correct information - https://www.police.sa.gov.au//licensed-firearms-owners-sel Here's the frequently ask questions - https://www.police.sa.gov.au//Self-Audit-Frequently-Asked- Tips for completing the self-audit - https://www.police.sa.gov.au//Tips-for-completing-the-self The self-audit - https://www.police.sa.gov.au//firea/self-audit-of-firearms See more
24.01.2022 As we have many members around the Parafield area, if you have visited any of these locations during the listed time, you do not need to self-quarantine but you should monitor for symptoms and get tested immediately if symptoms appear.

19.01.2022 We have a plan for reopening currently lodged with Dep of Rec and Sport, which involves all of our ranges being available for use, but on a limited basis. We have our own reopening plan which we will need to have operating prior to opening. This includes cleaning regimes, social distancing setups and so on. As soon as we get the word that we can reopen, we will publicize it along with the considerable requirements that will go with it. Given the age demographic of our club, it would be appreciated if everyone attending the range when it reopens has the covid safe app on their phones. Steve Nicholas, Para president
19.01.2022 Coronavirus COVID-19 ANNOUNCEMENT (23/03/2020) SSAA Para is continuing to monitor the situation with Coronavirus COVID-19, and are considering a number of options surrounding our operations over the coming months. Wipes are available in the canteen - Please ensure that you follow the quarantine requirements if you have travelled overseas or have been in close contact with a confirmed case. - Most importantly should any of our members or guests have any flu or cold like symptoms, or are aware that they have come into contact with someone who has been infected with COVID-19, we ask that you DO NOT attend a SSAA Para Range and that you stay at home and follow the Governments recommendations. - SAPOL have also provided a grace period for handgun shooters between March and September 2020 to complete their shoots. 12.01.2022 The 50m Range upgrade is progressing well. The mound has been adjusted and the new turning target system is now going in. The new range will increase our range capacity by moving some of our pistol and rifle matches from the main range and 1st pistol range and onto the 50m range. The goal is to have the 50m range ready prior to the Gallery Rifle Nationals in May 2020. We are now in the process of cladding the walls of the storage rooms and the front of the turning target sys...tem. Rather than using a wooden material, we have moved towards using a wood plastic composite decking material, that was provided by Advance Plastic Recycling, which is a local company located in Kilburn. SSAA Para has had a history of wood rot and white ants damaging our timber structures. However, this recycled plastic timber composite will give us a longer life asset while still providing environmental benefits by recycling and removing plastic from landfill. Next time you are on the main range, you will also notice that the baffle legs are also starting to be cladded in this wood plastic composite material, which also gives it a nice timber finish. 12.01.2022 SAFEKEEPING of FIREARMS and related items for fire affected people in South Australia. Dear members and fellow firearms owners of SA, As you are well aware, som...e of our family, friends, members and many other firearms owners have suffered total or partial loss of their homes, property and livestock due to the bushfires. Many of our members are also CFS, SA Ambulance, SES, SAPOL and Defence members working tirelessly to help. It’s in times of tribulation like these, it’s heartening to witness our true Aussie spirit of mateship prevailing and achieving best outcomes. We would like to offer them our most sincere gratitude and acknowledge them for their service in these times. With help in mind, it has come to light that local police stations cannot store any more firearms for safe keeping so the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia SA (SSAA SA) has teamed up with our friends at Gunforce in Hindmarsh, Adelaide to help facilitate and offer free storage of firearms, ammunition and related items for those that have been affected by the fires and are in need. If you or any of your contacts have been affected by any of the bushfires and are in need of firearms storage until you/they have rebuilt or relocated, we are here to help. We will be making a trip to Kangaroo Island very soon and will be working with local SAPOL to assist in the safekeeping process. We need to know ASAP how many firearms we are dealing with (ahead of time) so we can manage the logistics and book the appropriate vehicles for transport. Points of contact for further details will be; Kangaroo Island, the Secretary at SSAA KI Gun Club Lesley Beck on 0438 852 220 or email [email protected] Adelaide Hills (Cuddlee Creek/Lobethal/Woodside) Contact Stephen or Melissa at Gunforce direct on 08 8440 0858 in business hours to let them know how many firearms you are bringing. They are open 9:00am 5:00pm Mon Fri, 9:00am 7:00pm Thurs and 9:00 1:00pm Sat. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if we can be of further assistance. 11.01.2022 Back in our April magazine, SSAA member Peter Carter offered his copy of a vintage Australian Outdoors Handloading Guide to the ‘first in’. That was Jim Allison... of New South Wales but, in the wake of printing Peter’s letter, we were snowed under with requests for the magazine. To that end Alex Sentana, who was also keen to have the guide, offered to scan it and make it available to all SSAA members via our website. Alex has painstakingly scanned all 90-plus pages of the Handloading Guide and the whole magazine is now available to all. https://ssaa.org.au//fi/handloading-guide-available-to-all

07.01.2022 SA GUN DEALERS TO REMAIN OPEN After representations to both SAPOL and the relevant Ministers’ offices, it would seem that our government is prepared to consider... a more measured approach to restricting our ability to purchase supplies at dealers. This particularly applies to our rural members, farmers and contract shooters. Firearms dealers are specialist businesses and they and their employees are a vital part of our farming regions, activities and sport. Every endeavor must be made to support their viability. The extraordinary statements by the Victorian Police Minister linking our Members’ wish to purchase firearms and ammunition, before the upcoming price rise, to domestic violence and lawbreaking is to be condemned in the strongest possible way. The SSAA has been proactive in recommending the total closure of our ranges, despite the theoretical ability of small groups to shoot. We are part of the community and will do everything possible to protect our Members, their families and the public at large. WILD DOG BOUNTY As part of the government’s drought relief package, Minister Whetstone has announced a $100,000 bounty for the culling of wild dogs at $120 per head. This welcome move to assist farmers provides an opportunity for our Conservation and Wildlife Management group as well as our Farmer Assist programme and individual Members. https://www.ssaasa.org.au//200401-mr-4-1-Whetstone-Dog-Bou

06.01.2022 On the weekend of 12th to 14th of July 2019 myself and two other Juniors from SSAA Para club competed in the SSAA National Junior Challenge in Springvale Victor...ia. The weather was not nice to us as it was very cold, wet and really windy. I was competing in the U18 and Jess and Kyle were competing in the U15. First up was 3P on Friday. We started the competition at 9am and it was a long day as we had 4 details to get through. We were in mixed details so it was hard to see how we were going in our age groups until the competition ended. On Saturday we got on a bus at 7.30am to Compete in Silhouettes. As Springvale did not have a Silhouette range, we had to travel to Little river to the Eagle park range. The range is very open and the wind and rain was really bad. The silhouettes were rubber banded and blue tacked down to try and stop the wind blowing them down before we could Shoot at them. (It did not help) I must say it was the most interesting Silhouette Shoot I have ever done. My Grandma came to see me Shoot for the first time and was a great help keeping my Ammo warm and making sure I was warm, she even let me steal her good gloves. My grandma has helped me get the shooting equipment I have needed throughout my shooting and I am very thankful to have her help and support. On Sunday the last day of the challenge we competed in Field Rifle at Springvale. We all had a great time and had some PBs too. The final scores for the weekend went up and all we can say is GO SSAA PARA JUNIORS. My (Nicole) final results in U18 were 1st 3p, 3rd Silhouettes, 2nd Field and 1st overall in 3gun aggregate Jess final results in U15 were 2nd 3p, 1st Silhouettes, 1st Field and 1st overall in 3 gun aggregate Kyle final results in U15 were 1st 3P, 2nd Silhouettes, 4th field and 2nd overall in 3 gun aggregate Next year the National Challenge will be in Queensland. As they have an over 18 section I hope to be going again and hope Kyle and Jess go too. Over all I believe this was a great end to my junior shooting path, and a good start to my adult shooting. I wouldn’t be where I am and doing what I am without my coach Dennis Colmer the air rifle captain from para, my scout leader Chewy (Brett Kallin who introduced me to shooting, my Dad and my Grandma. So, a huge thanks to them all and to Springvale club for holding a great junior nationals. By Nicole Worthley SSAA Para See more

06.01.2022 Members please take this survey for our sports sake! The SSAA needs your help to map out the future of recreational hunting and sports shooting in Australia. The National Recreational Hunting and Sports Shooting Survey is open now and we need as many members as possible to participate. The survey, commissioned by the Federal Government Department of Health, is a chance to show the wider Australian community our economic worth as well as how important hunting and sports shooti...ng activities are to our physical and mental wellbeing. Make no doubt about it, this survey and its results are vitally important. You have an opportunity to participate in something that has never been done before on this scale and possibly never will be again. The results will be used for years to come to develop and shape policy. We need as many hunters and/or sports shooters to complete the survey to provide the best data possible. In short, the survey asks questions relating to: Your spending associated with recreational hunting and shooting; The impact of recreational hunting and shooting on your physical health; The social benefits of recreational hunting and shooting in general. The survey is anonymous with no identifying questions and, being such a comprehensive study, contains 38 questions. Please set aside 15 minutes so you can complete it in full. Under the instructions from Firearms Branch, members are still require to maintain a financial membership for purpose of use one (club use) on their licence. However, SAPOL have given a grace period between March and September for people to submit handgun licence renewal chits without completing the full number of attendances. In working within this SAPOL requirement to maintain a financial membership, the club this week has endorsed that club memberships will be extended while the range is closed. How will this work? We will be sending out renewal and reminder notices as per the normal process each month. So invoices will be sent out for April and May and reminder notices will be sent out for current expired memberships this weekend. Membership fees can then be made through the following methods: 1. By credit card over the phone (8289 6918) between the hours of 10am and 4pm. 2. By EFT payment (Details will be supplied on the invoice, however please make sure you add your surname and membership number to the reference field so that I can find it in the bank statement). 3. By post (Cheque or money order) sent to GPO Box 2013, Adelaide 5001 Once payment is made, the secretary will then update the membership within the database to ensure we have a record of each member being financial. However, membership cards will not be sent out yet. Once the range is given the green light to re-open, the new membership cards will be sent out with the revised expiry dates. So if you expired in April and the range was closed for 2 months, then the new expiry will be June 2021 instead of April 2021. Members that won't expire until the later part of the year and hopefully after the isolation period, will have their memberships extended over the paused period and membership renewals will be sent out to match the new expiry date. We understand that many members may have lost their jobs or have reduced hours, which may put restrictions on the ability to pay the membership. Please don't feel that you are the only one experiencing this. Just give the secretary a call on and we can work through it to help your current situation. Please phone or email the secretary for any follow up questions you might have. Have a safe Easter SSAA Para Council

01.01.2022 Category H exemptions - welcome news for Handgun Shooters. Following our representations on behalf of all South Australian Shooters, below is important informa...tion from Firearms Branch exempting Category H shooting requirements for licensees that need renewing between March and September. Club closures as a result of COVID-19 have affected many of our 5000 Members and SSAA SA thanks SAPOL Firearms Branch for their consideration and prompt help in this unprecedented situation.
01.01.2022 Folks there has been a small group of volunteers working at the range during the week and on weekends doing all of the maintenance. We also have contractors in upgrading the main car parking areas. As for the latest posting from SSAA SA, please don't get too excited about reopening until we get the ok from the state authorities. The federal document indicates 10 people. This is just not workable for us, unless we can get it extended to 10, where practical, ( based on social distancing) on each of the ranges on the property. I will present our proposal to SSAA SA, who will along with theirs take it to the necessary authorities. If you have any questions, please get in contact with me. Steve Nicholas, Para President
