The goals that our clients set out to achieve are unique and varied, but always incredibly important because they improve quality of life. Working with our clients toward the realisation of their goals involves a process of assessment, planning, action, and review. It is a process that certainly can take time, but it is undoubtedly time well spent. 21.01.2022 This week we are celebrating OT week!!! Occupational Therapists work tirelessly to help their clients acquire, maintain or improve the skills needed for daily activities and wellbeing. A person’s ‘occupation’ refers to any activity that might be undertaken during the course of their day i.e. how they ‘occupy’ their time. OTs collaborate with their clients to identify important goals (occupational activities) that will aid or improve wellbeing, and then work to plan and dev...elop solutions that will help that client reach a specified outcome. This might include therapeutic mechanisms, assistive technology, home modifications. Every day, each of us undertake a multitude of tasks that make up our daily activities. For people living with a disability, an OT works actively to help improve functional capacity, which increases the variety and scope of tasks a person can undertake. Increased opportunity for choice facilitates greater independence and enables those living with a disability to more actively participate in our community.
