14.01.2022 I just love this. So much.

13.01.2022 This Sunday, November 29 is the first Sunday of Advent. Now might be a good time to think about how you will prepare yourselves for Christmas. If you have never made an Advent Wreath this may be the year. https://www.mercyhome.org/blog/sunday-mass/advent-wreath/ (the article has a date from a previous year)

13.01.2022 The Archbishop is pleased to announce the appointment of The Reverend Rosemary Gardiner as Priest in Charge of the Parish of Woolloongabba. Rosemary is currently an Assistant Priest in the Parish of Hamilton. Rosemary’s Commissioning date is still to be advised, but will be announced later this year.... I know that Rosemary will serve the people of Woolloongabba faithfully and well, and that they will welcome Rosemary, Lindsay and their family to the Parish.

12.01.2022 On 26 September we remember Lancelot Andrewes (1555-1626), Bishop of Winchester and spiritual writer. One of his most notable positions was on the translation committee for the King James Bible. He headed the group which addressed Genesis - 2 Kings, and also had some general oversight. We don't have a window for Andrewes, but please enjoy this hymn by John Rutter featuring the words from his collection of "Private Prayers." Open Thou mine eyes and I shall see :... incline my heart and I shall fervently desire : straighten my steps and I shall walk in the way of thy commandments O Lord God, be Thou to me a God : beside Thee let there not be to me another, none else, nought else with Thee. Grant unto me to adore Thee and to worship Thee in truth of spirit, in comeliness of body, in blessing of the mouth, in private and in public.

11.01.2022 Season of creation - a joy to be in the midst of so much beauty and song. I was surprised to see not one but two beetles on the same twig.

09.01.2022 On 1 July 2021 our Torres Strait Islander communities will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the ‘Coming of the Light’, commemorating the arrival of missionari...es, including Anglicans, to their islands. Dr Aunty Rose Elu from NATSIAC is keen to locate descendants of the 19th century missionaries so they can be invited to the Brisbane re-enactment and service celebrations. Please share this post on your Facebook pages so we can help her get word out. If you are a descendant of these missionaries, please message Anglican Church Southern Queensland and we will pass the information on to Aunty Rose. Thank you. #ABMission Reconciliation Action - Anglican Church Southern Queensland Anglican Diocese of North Queensland Holy Trinity, Fortitude Valley ABM in Southern Queensland

08.01.2022 Music for Advent. I have always loved the album Gentle Night by the St Louis Jesuits. You might like to listen to this song https://www.youtube.com/watch or even the whole album.

07.01.2022 29 September marks the feast of Michael and All Angels. There are four angels named in the Bible: - Michael ("Who is like God?") in Revelation - Gabriel ("the strength of God") in the book of Daniel and the gospel of Luke - Raphael ("the healing of God") in the book of Tobit; and... - Uriel ("the light of God") in 2 Esdras As well as the angels used in minor decorations, Michael and Gabriel are depicted in several of our windows: including the Te Deum window and those dedicated to men and women in the armed services. The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, obedient to his spoken word. Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will. Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul. (Psalm 103.19-22)

07.01.2022 This time last year we caught the end of the service in Canberra. Give thanks for those who have lost their lives in service and for those currently serving serve.

04.01.2022 21 September is the Feast of St Matthew. Matthew is depicted in this window on the north side of the church at the moment of his being called by Jesus. He is also depicted in a window in the columbarium, along with the other three evangelists (Mark, Luke and John). As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And he got up and followed him. And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax-collectors and sinne...rs came and were sitting with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax-collectors and sinners?’ But when he heard this, he said, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.’ (Matthew 9.9-13) God of mercy, you chose a tax collector, Saint Matthew, to share the dignity of the apostles. By his example and prayers help us to follow Christ and remain faithful in your service. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
