01.01.2022 The NDIS recently completed an Independent Assessment Pilot which looked into the benefits of conducting functional capacity assessments (FCA) for people with disability. The goal was to determine whether FCAs supported the successful identification of the impact a person's disability has on their capacity to engage in the community, school, work place and social activities, to ensure their plan includes the most relevant support. At the completion of this pilot, both partic...ipants and NDIA staff and partners recognised the benefits of completing functional capacity assessments, resulting in improved decision-making and more equitable plan outcomes for participants with similar characteristics. FCAs are completed by Occupational Therapists who accompany clients in their home, work and community to identify their day to day routines and identify the support required to increase independently .
