15.01.2022 Rev Fr Peter Slater, Diocesan Administrator has today announced the postponement of the Ordination and Installation of Greg Bennet as the Tenth Bishop of Sale. ..."In light of the current circumstances of Covid-19 restrictions in the State of Victoria and following the announcement of "Steps" by Premier Andrews for Regional Victoria and Metropolitan Melbourne, it is necessary to postpone the planned Ordination and Installation of Bishop-Elect Gregory Bennet which had been scheduled for 20th October at St Mary's Cathedral, Sale. The Steps for Regional Victoria prevent public religious worship within the Cathedral and other settings (with special exemption for restricted funerals) until 23rd November 2020. "The Diocese of Sale wishes to support the State Government in its efforts to ensure the health and safety of all Victorians. We are mindful of the many other important occasions which people have delayed or have been unable to celebrate. "Once the Diocese is able to receive advice that we are able to proceed with the liturgy of Ordination and Installation of Bishop-Elect Bennet you will be notified immediately. As you would understand the liturgy will respect all restrictions as required. In any event the Ordination will be live-streamed in order that we can gather as One people in faith in welcoming our new bishop among us." 02.01.2022 DON'T LEAVE THE ELDERLY ALONE, PLEADS POPE! With a wonderful outreach to the World, Pope Francis called on young people to reach out to their grandparents or the elderly who may be lonely or on their own. Do not leave them by themselves, he said after praying the Angelus with visitors in St Peter's square on 26 July. Use the inventiveness of love, make phone calls, video calls, send messages, listen to them and, where possible, incompliance with health care regulations, go... to visit them, too. Send them a hug. he said, before leading visitors in giving a big round of applause to all grandparents. The pope made his remarks on the memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne: Mary's parents. Jesus' grandparents and the patron saints of grandparents. Pope Francis said he wanted to mark the day by inviting all young people to make a concrete gesture of tenderness toward the elderly, especially the loneliest, in their homes and residences, those who have not seen their loved ones for many months because of rule to curb the spread of the coronavirus. In part because of such regulations in place, he asked young people to be creative and inventive in finding ways to show they care while respecting current directives. Grandparents and the elderly are your roots and having a strong bond or connection with one's roots is important, he said, because an uprooted tree cannot grow, it does not blossom or bear fruit. Because the pandemic has affected older people especially hard, the Dicastery for laity, the Family and Life launched a campaign on 27 July after being inspired by Pope Francis' invitation to reach out safely and creatively to the elderly. It is possible to reduce isolation felt by elderly people while also strictly observing health guidelines for COVID-19, it said, in a statement adding that respecting social distancing rules does not mean accepting a destiny of loneliness and abandonment. Our invitation to young people is to reach out to the loneliest elderly people in their neighbourhood or parish and send them a big hug, according to the request of Pope Francis, by means of a phone call, a video call or by sending an image. Let us as faithful and loving parishioners of our Cathedral Parish warmly reach out in the spirit of Pope Francis' invitation. Let us in praying the Novena Rosary Aug 7 through to the feast of the Assumption August 15, include a special prayer for all who have died victim to this terrible virus and for all who grieve deeply the lose of loved ones. Please take care - wear your mask, keep to social distancing, deepen your prayers ITS VERY HARD NOT HAVING YOU WITH US AT OUR DAILY AND WEEKEND MASSES Please tune into the Cathedral Livestream 9.30am Mass each Sunday Lots of love, prayers and care for you all Dean Peter
