09.01.2022 Lunch making kids Did you know that lots of perfectly good food gets wasted in Australian schools? Food Waste Facts... Every student wastes 3kg of food each year on average. In Australia each year, students throw away: 3.5 million uneaten sandwiches 3 million pieces of whole fruit 1.3 million items of packaged foods Our school is participating in the Lunchbox Leftovers pilot program. We have chosen to take part in the Make your own lunch program intervention. This program will explore how we can reduce food waste in our school by empowering students to be more involved in preparing and packing their own lunch, aiming to reduce the amount of food they leave or throw away. Students new skills will be celebrated with a Pack Your Own Lunch Day in Week 8 this Term. We need all parents of participating students in years 36 to complete the pre-survey online this week (click here to complete the survey). https://monash.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9RJ8n6MA3eVUjR3 This will provide us with some information about childrens participation in food waste behaviours, including estimates of total food consumption at school, leftovers taken home and involvement in preparing food to take to school, before we implement the Lunchbox Leftovers trial. We will also repeat this parent survey at the end of the Lunchbox Leftovers term. All year 3-6 students will be completing a student pre-survey in class this week.
