25.01.2022 Mr Pusskins getting ready for our new sermon series in Revelation, starting this Sunday. #therectorscat #revelation

23.01.2022 You are welcome to join us on Sundays at 9:30am

22.01.2022 Today the church remembers Hugh Latimer and Nicholas Ridley, Bishops, 1555, and Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury, 1556. "Today we shall light such a fire in England as shall never be extinguished." With these words Latimer and Ridley went to the stake and were burned to death on this day in 1555 at Oxford. Besides being burned together, Latimer and Ridley had much in common. Both were English bishops with strong protestant sympathies. Each was an exceptionally fine pr...eacher in an age of great preachers. Both were Cambridge men. Both were social reformers. Latimer was the sometime Bishop of Worcester, who rose to prominence in the days of Thomas Wolsey and Henry VIII. He first gained a reputation as a social reformer and then as a church reformer. This alone was enough to put Queen Mary on his heels. Nicholas Ridley, the sometime Bishop of London, was equally infamous to Mary's inquisitors. During his brief episcopate he had seen to the founding of three hospitals and had contributed significantly to the new Book of Common Prayer. His "protestantizing" sermons brought down upon his head the wrath of Mary's most unreconciliatory regime. Yet Latimer and Ridley had, indeed, lit a fire in England that was not to be extinguished. Thomas Cranmer was Archbishop of Canterbury during the reigns of both Henry VIII and Edward VI, and he presided over the reform of the Church of England. He was the chief composer of The Book of Common Prayer. He was one of the foremost scholars of his day, an eminent student of Holy Scripture and Liturgy. Cranmer was convinced that a thorough reform of the church was needed in his day. When Mary Tudor ascended the throne, Cranmer was imprisoned and convicted of heresy. He was burned at the stake at Oxford on March 21, 1556. Prior to the execution he had, under duress, signed recantations repudiating his reforming activities. For this he publicly repented and at the stake he is said to have willfully placed his right hand into the flames, saying, "This hand hath offended." For all martyrs and for those whose witness has renewed the church, we give you thanks, Lord God. Amen. Read the Wikipedia article here. Keep us, O Lord, constant in faith and zealous in witness, that, like your servants William Latimer, Nicholas Ridley, and Thomas Cranmer, we may live in your fear, die in your favor, and rest in your peace; for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

18.01.2022 You may have heard that today is celebrated around the world as Reformation Day? It's a day that commemorates that time in history when Christians rediscovered ...the Bible's teaching about how us sinners can be accepted by the loving God of this world. Why October 31? That's the day in 1517 when an Augustinian friar called Martin Luther nailed 95 statements of protest to the door of a church in Wittenberg. His life's mission was to tell the world of God's free acceptance of us - despite our messy pasts - through faith in Jesus Christ. It was amazing grace! Just like others of us who have received this acceptance and forgiveness, Luther was pretty passionate about this good news. He wanted people to know that 'being a good bloke' and 'trying your best' wasn't God's way of finding acceptance and forgiveness. Rather, the Scriptures tell us that it was about having faith ('faith alone'!) in Christ Jesus. Sort of like a child simply receiving a Christmas present. That's the beauty of God's acceptance and forgiveness - it doesn't matter how smart or cultured or mature or old one is. God doesn't want merely nice people, he wants massively new people. And he offers us that newness by faith in Christ alone! "So we also say: Our preaching and the foundation of our faith, is that by faith alone, independently of the law and of works, justification and salvation stand. And were the whole world Carthusians and taught otherwise, let it be accursed. Were the entire world barefooted friars, preachers, Augustines, Benedicts, and taught otherwise, let it be accursed. Or, again, if there were one whole world of holy Augustines, another of holy Francises, a third of holy Dominics, a fourth of holy Benedicts, a fifth of holy Anthonys, a sixth of St. Pauls, a seventh of angelic Gabrielswhat then? If they teach otherwise, let them be accursed. The Word of God must stand, and emphatically Christ alone must remain. What more do you want?" (Luther, New Years Day Sermon) Happy Reformation Day!

17.01.2022 You don't get to decide to worship. Everyone worships something. The only choice you get is what to worship.

16.01.2022 Happy Reformation Day! Celebrating at St Alban’s with big beers and a game of pin the beard on the reformer.

14.01.2022 Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Grace and peace to you in Christ Jesus our Saviour and only Lord! I am writing on behalf of the Gafcon family to let you know th...at Archbishop Ben Kwashi, our General Secretary and Archbishop of Jos, Nigeria, is undergoing treatment for cancer. Archbishop Ben & Mama Gloria along with their children are grateful for your prayers and concern. At this stage there is little to report and the family asks for privacy while treatment continues and further tests are carried out. Please pray for Archbishop Ben, that he will be comfortable and pain free during the chemotherapy, and that it will be effective in dealing with the tumour. Archbishop Ben is very positive, trusting in His Lord for the future and continues to be committed to the clear and effective proclamation of the Gospel. This week he wrote: I want the Bible taught with clarity, integrity and conviction. I want the Bible lived out in real life, changing lives and communities everywhere. I want truth, righteousness and justice to be common in the life of the church, amongst believers and extended to the world. I want the mission of the gospel to be a living experience of the church, insisting on conversion, experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit and bearing the fruit of the Spirit as a mark of discipleship. I want this ministry to children, youth, widows, orphans, aged, and helpless to be a regular mission of the church. May the Word of God spread with speed... May the Gospel of salvation be preached to the world... May the Spirit of God fall afresh on us... May the name of the Lord alone be glorified... Almighty and most merciful Father, whose nature is to be compassionate and kind: Show mercy and compassion on all who struggle this day with cancer, especially Archbishop Ben, on those groaning in pain of the illness and those suffering through the pain of treatment. Give them grace to cast all their cares upon you, assure them of your Presence in their struggles, heal them all by the power of your love, through Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit One God now and forevermore. Amen We will bring you an update when more news is available to be shared. Grace and Peace, The Most Rev. Dr. Foley Beach Chair of the Primates Council

12.01.2022 "While Christ’s second advent is where I’ve learned to lay the tonnage of the burden of sacred love, stolen by death, Christ’s first advent reminds me that God also understands incarnated love stolen by death."

05.01.2022 Last week, a young Amish man named Steven Yoder was killed in a mill accident here in New Wilmington, Pa . Steven left behind a wife named Mary, and five chil...dren under the age of 13, and one on the way. I asked my Amish friend Teena what would happen to the family. "How will they financially make it, since the Amish do not carry insurance?" Teena answered, "The church will take care of them." The church, in an Old World Order Amish group, is the entire community. "We are the church! We will all pitch in and help her until her sons are grown and can financially support her. If every body gives a little, she will have a lot " Today, I stopped by Teena's and she asked me what the weather is supposed to be like on Saturday. I said it was going to be cool, but dry. Teena said, "Good, because at least ten teams of men are going to Mary's house to plow her fields, winterize her home and barn, get her a winters supply of coal (to heat her home) and wood (for her to cook with) . The women are all going to cook and bake to help feed the men, who are taking care of Mary's farm, and bring food for Mary to have enough all winter. I'm glad it will be nice for them." This is community. This is church. When there is a need, it is taken care of. Not by a few, but by all. Lord help us to be a better community and a better church. Let our eyes see the needs. Let our ears hear the cries. Let our hands pitch in to do the dirty work. Many hands make light work. We all need each other.
